Update by @NANA about the model XM3700: you have to loosen the two pointed screws on the pulley which is on the end to the right of the axle where there is the belt.
This detailed video show 2 solutions to fix the problem that sewing machine not picking up bobbin thread. Models in this video are JX2517 and XM3700.
Why this happens: Hook timing is wrong.
Right timing: as needle goes down, the thread should be picked up by the hook; Wrong timing: the hook is going around to pick up the thread, but the needle has already lifted, so they don’t sync.
How to adjust: do the alignment, making sure when turning the hand wheel counterclockwise, the hook should be a little bit higher than the needle eye when they meet, so that the hook will have enough time to pick up the thread before needle goes up.
