Hello Friends! I have been feeling not myself a lot this summer and have entirely lost my sew-jo, which is horrible because i have a big event and lots of photo shoots happening in like 2 weeks. Sigh. So, i decided that instead of doing nothing at all, i should try and do something, so I am procrastinating on my gown and started making other things that I will need for my trip! Come hang out while I make some silk pockets and a silk petticoat and have some chats! Then leave me a comment about how you are!

Everything you’re describing - not having motivation to do anything, but also not feeling sad or necessarily having other signs of depression - yeah that’s me. Most of the time. You’re not alone! Also love the doing what my brain wants not what I want to want.

September got fired because it was an awful month. 102 degree fever flu, my 10 year old rescue dog crossed the Rainbow Bridge during a hurricane when my home was without power and I had only a lantern to see by. I have no sew jo either and have six major projects to do for Christmas gifts. I am re-reading series that I love because I don't have the umph to read anything new. I am also re-watching The Great British Sewing Bee from the beginning to try to get a bit of jo back too. Glad you're checking in because it helps to remind us that "celebs" have real lives too.

I caught covid twice, once with long covid symptoms that lasted in some form for roughly 9 months. I completely understand and empathize with the lack of motivation and extreme fatigue. Both were super not cool and (for me at least) the worst part of the experience. There's a kind of lingering brain fog/malise that just makes everything unsatisfactory and finding motivation for anything is a serious act of willpower. I hope these smaller projects help and I'm rooting for you. Edit spelling

Try Escape to Rural France. The chateau was destroyed in a fire in the 30s leaving only most of the walls standing. warning - it is another Brit. Setting small achievable goals is a great way to ease back into getting (whatever ) jo functioning again. Good luck.

I’ve also recently lost my sew-jo which has really been a bummer. Engineering school is kicking my butt (I hate 8 ams) but my school offers counseling so that’s cool. I’m working on a rayon skirt (got fabric for $3/yd at hobby lobby. Slay) and learning to sew snaps for the first time by hand Edit: wanted to add that I’m glad you’re posting videos again! Chronic "stuff" (physical illness, mental illness, situational difficulties) can cause havoc on us, so knowing what helsp and trying more things that might help sounds like an excellent plan going forward. I'm glad you're getting your sew-jo back! I was laid off at the beginning of this month, and just about at the point where i'd decided to take some time without working to gather myself together and a consulting opportunity through the end of the year presented itself, so I'm doing that. I'm not sure it's the best thing for me, except financially, but we'll see. It's contract, so I can always pull away if it all becomes too much.

I have watched the Petherick's for years they started on their chateau first, its stunning. I'm looking forward to the double story library which will start next year at the convent . Billy's brother Michael has many talents, art, music, design, he is not vloging so much now but in the past he published a lot of vlogs. Michael is renovating the glass house at the chateau outside his cottage at the moment. Another quiet achiever is Billy and Michaels Dad he is not on the vlog often but if you spot him he is working hard driving a machine. I'm learning to knit socks for my swollen feet, its been a learning curve to work with negative ease, sewing you add ease but socks need to stay on! Noelle i'm sorry you are feeling bad hope your doctor can solve it. hugs

Noelle, I was so happy to see your smiling face this morning! You know, it doesn’t matter to me what you post or when…I am here for ALL of it, no matter what! ❤ I have not been making costumes at all. I may make a video about that for my channel. There are very few costume events in Alaska and I am not a Con person. So I have turned to quilts. It’s a great community of folks and the creativity is truly inspiring! I am challenging myself to try more and more difficult techniques! Plus, the greatest joy is making a giving a quilt to someone. It’s pretty darn special. So that’s what is up from me in my sewing room in Alaska! Love you! -Kelley❤

I got over my heartbreak of 'Good Omens 2' and finally got a little sew-jo back! I made a bag that was a great first attempt! :) Very happy with that! But then my vertigo kicked my butt, so I'm taking a break, sitting still and trying not to over-do it. I binged all 4 season of 'The Good Place'. Just a happy show that makes me happy! Then I read 'The Midnight Library'! Super good and thought provoking book! Highly recommend! And now that 'Our Flag' is back, i will have more things to be happy about! Also 'Only Murders...' was amazing! Can't wait for season 4! Other shows i'm excited for are 'Upload' season 3, 'Loki' season 2, 'Hilda' season 3, BBC 'Ghosts' series 5!!! All wonderfully weird, funny, heartwarming shows!

Glad to hear you and your doctor have a plan! I have anxiety, and I gotta tell you, there is far too much 'white knuckling'. I'm looking for a therapist to see if I can improve that. Book recommends: Tanya Huff, the Blood series is modern day horror, and it has a spin off series called the Smoke series. She also has the Keeper Chronicles which is urban fantasy and very funny. It features a cat. TV recommends - the various historical series with Ruth Goodman, Alex Langsands and Peter Ginn. They live on various historical farms so you get a feel of what life was like in that time. There is also a series about steam trains and a Victorian Pharmacy. Hope you trips are fun and you can get enough rest!

Love the Pethericks, very British lets try hitting it with a hammer style of restoration - I know, they are really skilled at what they do - while being so enthusiastic about the history of the place. If you like interesting stuff podcasts I can recommend Histories of the Unexpected, two adorable academics going off on tangents from the chosen topic. Way more fun that it might sound! All facts, all friendly and lots of knowledge. I'm mostly knitting at the moment so need plenty of good audio to keep me going as I unravel every other row because I always manage to lose count

If you want truly relaxing videos, try to find Martijn Doolaard. He is a Dutch guy who bought a property in Italy in the mountains of the Dolomites and is renovating the place (of course😂) Puts out videos once a week of his progress. We're in a big ol' lame club with tons of members, I guess. Watching: the Bear, the Changeling, and Saving the Manor. The last one has two guys fixing up a Henry VII-era manor. One of them is scared of mice, it's lovely. Reading White Noise whenever I take lunches at work. Noel, you rock.

As someone who has Fibromyalgia I understand the lack of motivation; foggy, blah brain; tiredness; and limited emotional and physical energy. No fun at all! Do take your time to rest as you need to and nurture yourself. We appreciate you too much to have you be naked at your event. 😉 I'm still reading through Patricia Cornwall mysteries and watching Touch of Frost series, though I've just finished watching Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie in Jeeves and Wooster for some fun. Sounds like you're watching the Pethericks? I'm mostly working on a crochet throw for my hubby and other smaller projects like learning a new pattern for a crochet scarf. It's spring here so my thoughts are turning to the need for soft and sweet dresses and things for the warmer weather.

Noelle! I have not sewn a single thing in years, but i love watching your channel for your genuine, laid back style, honesty and interest in very similar things to me!! I have followed The Pethericks since before 2020, and the convent renovation is absolutely enthralling to me! I have also followed Anna and Phillip (with a side serve of Benoit) since i discovered them a year or so ago, and i love The Chateau Diaries, as well! In addition, I watch Dan on Escape to Rural France, and Sean (who worked on the convent for months) renovating his derelict cottage on his property, Phil (who often pops up on The Pethericks) with his chateau and, of course, lots of cos tubers!! I also have struggled with depression and anxiety for years, and i thank you for talking about the weird lethargy of it all. I am passionate about so many things, but the past few years i have spent more time in bed, than not. (Which is probably why i follow so many RU-vid folk!! Thank you for this vlog! Would you believe I watched the convent video directly before this one? Really, hahaha! His brother Michael is a brilliant creative and I love his channel as well (though he is way less active recently). I was a happy little paper crafter and card maker. Then stumbled upon fabric designer Tula Pink whose colors burst joy in my heart and soul, and I leaped from paper to fabric. How far did I jump? I bought a new sewing machine and am getting into quilting again after 40 years!! Modern tools make it so much easier and more precise. I hope your energy returns a bit more each day. I wish I could hang out with you watching videos together. Sending you so much love…. 🤗 ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🩷 (Tula is all about rainbows ☺️)

I have been watching french chateau restorations since 2017ish when I was home sick living in the US and found Chateau DIY (formerly "Escape to the Chateau DIY") on BBC, which is all about brits in France restoring castles. Tons of people from the show have youtube channels now (The Pethericks are one of them!) Others I like are: Chateau Diaries, and How to Renovate a Chateau (edited to add that I just got to this section of the video! I watch many of the channels and love "how to renovate a chateau"). A tangentially related channel is Escape to Rural France, and I've seen others mention it too! One where the people are also artists is Manor and Maker, Sara is a sewist and Steve is a painter and they're Canadian (like me!). I always felt the French Chateaux side of my youtube watching would never collide but here we are and I love it!

‼️I was so excited to see your post! Firstly, because it’s wonderful to see you again. Secondly, because I just made a black renaissance petticoat for myself last week for the NorCal Renfaire, cartridge pleats and all. Thirdly, I have your company as I sew my first corset. I finally narrowed down my first Victorian and that’s what I’m currently working on. I feel that I can relate to the no sewjo. I see this for myself when finishing a big project. Like, I just need some downtime from the big push. For me, it’s like a withdrawal. I hope you find your sewjo when you’re ready. Alas, lest we forget, all hallows eve is upon us soon. 🎃

Tired, I'm tired, I've got a lot of balls in the air (and I've already dropped all the unessential ones). I'm holding onto the hope that the only constant thing in life is that it's always changing! Glad I'm not the only one who likes to savour the "last" book/season/episode - I'm listening to the most recent St Mary's book so I appreciate the warning that it feels like the last book

Nice to see you again Noel. Sending hugs! I reccomend anything by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Carrie Soto is Back, and Malibu Rising are are super fun and different.

I'm actually making a set of petticoats/skirts for my cousin at the moment! Two plaids, three stripes, with three lighter-weight flannelly brushed cottons and two heavier (and crazy soft!) flannels. (All from Thrifty Notion, if anyone's curious.) Even though I'm repeating a lot of the same steps, it's been really helpful as an exercise in building a semblance of routine (I've never liked having a schedule/routine, so it's a bit of a challenge). It's actually kind of nice being able to put one skirt down if I need a break and either work on a different step on another skirt, or just do something else for a while. It's been good practice toward sewing quickly. To quote a wise robot, "I am not fast." Have I spent multiple afternoons meticulously pleating every panel? Yes. Do I know that's probably overkill in this instance? Yes. Am I going to do it anyway? Absoflippinlutely. I willhappily accept imperfections, but sewinggods help me if my plaids and stripes aren't reasonably aligned.

I had Covid two months after having my baby last December. So I don’t know if how I’m feeling is normal postpartum or if it’s long Covid. I feel so different than I used to. So I can totally relate.

Thank you for being honest about your struggles. It's very easy to retreat and become invisible (I do it all the time) but harder to put yourself out there. I love the idea of doing some quick projects to get yourself back in the swing of sewing again, and I'd like to see more frequent, shorter, videos if that works for you.

awesome - more things to binge watch on youtube!! I have a horse channel that I watch and I don't love the person but I totally adore the way she trains her horses and what she does with them. It sucks to not be feeling like yourself, especially without *reason*. I've been having to work extra hard lately and that kind of bites but since I spent a few weeks kind of doing nothing, I can't complain. My boss is away for a month overseas and that puts an extra strain on me, so I've been being VERY gentle with myself. Also my boy cat caught a mouse this morning and that makes me both happy and anxious...

Grüße aus Deutschland. Yesterday we visited our son and I got stung by a wasp. Now my my underarm is red and swollen and itches like 🤬. But overall I'm happy. My garden was a relative success this year, I built 3 raised beds myself and I'm awfully proud of myself 😊.

Totally understand lack of motivation. I have chronic fatigue from various sources. Have for years. I have only one piece of advice - give yourself grace. You can only do what you can do. Don't beat yourself up for having to rest. Okay, two pieces - Don't over-schedule. Some days I feel lucky to accomplish one thing. Especially if it involves going out somewhere. I am currently re-reading the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. It is written by a husband and wife team. I really enjoy their writing. They have several series to choose from. Hope you are feeling better soon.

To answer your question, emotionally I am okay, I spent the last few days grieving the missed goal of getting my Glinda Bubble dress done and now I am just really focused on enjoying spooky season costume making and working towards being kinder to myself about missed goals. I'm also happy to have a new Noelle video to watch

Thank you for sharing what's going on with you. It makes me feel less alone in the loss of motivation. I have let my garden go, haven't canned anything in about a month, and this is normally my busy season. Kinda just going through the motions because I don't have the ability to not make dinner and do the dishes and laundry, because I have a kiddo to take care of. I'm glad you are working with a doctor, mine just blamed what I'm going through on my auto-immune disorder, and said it happens some times. Yes, I have sought a 2nd and 3rd opinion, got a lot of the same guidance from those docs.

I honestly just thought you had better things to do! Long ago in a state far far away...a friend had a baby. She was the prefect little stash buster/"pallet cleanser"/quick project victim. Her mother and I shared a slightly warped sense of humor. Which just means she was down to put everything I ever made for that little munchkin on her at least once. There was a bright orange prison romper with a fake fur mullet wig (her mom is from Canada and introduced us to Trailer Park Boys), a denim "suit" with a flannel button down, and a Grateful Dead romper complete with fringe. There were actual wearable clothes too, but those are less fun to talk about. I do not want to think about how old she is now. But she is well past putting up with her mom's and my shenanigans! The simple little projects were a nice little break from the bigger projects. I like the chattiness of your videos. You keep doing you chica! I’ll be over here not remarking the corset pattern piece I totally screwed up while one cat lies on whatever I am working on, another head butts me and drools on my pattern, and the final and most princessy lightly claws me in the butt asking for pets (not all at once, it’s more of a parade).

I hope that your mental health gets better soon. I've lived with feeling like that for a few years now and it certainly isn't fun (ADD, chronic depression, and general anxiety diagnosed; also was referred for adult autism diagnosis, but the wait list is over 2 years with my insurance). I've had some bouts of Sew-Jo the last month, but no actual sewing because I just moved and that was a whole mess. Sewing desk is currently buried under boxes and fabric that I need to find a new home for it all. I've been too tired after work to unpack, so it's been over a month and I'm still partially living in boxes. 😅 I was supposed to go to the St. Louis ball as well, but the move and my $300/month rent increase nixed those plans. I have been having fun planning on starting a new D&D campaign in a couple weeks. It's set in Exandria/the Critical Role universe after the end of Campaign 3 with what the DM is hypothesizing will happen since Campaign 3 isn't over yet. It'll start as all of us players working for different factions all trying to steal the same item, so it should be fun. I'm glad that you're back, regardless if it's a bit different from "normal."

You are always a bright light. So sorry you are suffering. I see that in my future as there are family medical issues weighing on me. 18 hours in the ER in a chair of torture derailed me. Even though all is well, I worry about medical issues and my formerly productive sewing is floundering. I slept all day on Monday in an effort to get back on track. Time will tell. Sleep well, eat well, know you are loved and appreciated. Love the black petticoat. Can't wait to see the pocket and the dress. Sending healing thoughts.

I can relate to such much of this. I got covid in that first round of it, back in March 2020,from a friend whose neighbours had just returned from skiing in Italy... Sadly, after that, I got covid again, despite being really careful around people (but when they're not even trying...). So, I have a lot of those "long covid" symptoms too. It really sucks! You have my sympathy. I love making things but it's so hard to find the energy to actually do it. Everything takes at least four times as long as it used to do, and it just feels as if it's a constant state of uphill and against the wind... I've just started sewing my mother an autumn coat, but I think it'll turn out to be a spring coat. ;) But she found these lovely curtains at a thrift store that now wants to wear, and I think it'll be an awesome, whimsical and fun coat. So that's what I'm working on. After that, or as a little side thing when I just can't do a big project, I just might make one of those pockets, because that looks fab.

Ahhh! I’m also way invested in the convent. So glad to find out you (and many of your fellows commenting here) are in the same boat. Happy to see your face. I was having many ups and downs as I was affected by the writers/actors strikes. Totally relate to the “meh”. Feeling hopeful now that progress is being made. I’ll be here for whatever level of posting you wind up at. All success to you.
