You know that information on being out on the pleats measurement is very important to know.
@oldschoolautoupholstery
@oldschoolautoupholstery 3 года назад
Yes, you have to remove that 1mm from your mind as your driving your pleat.

Pretty astonishing. I worked for decades in illustration and graphics, and as a youngster pinstriped and painted signs, and since this was before computers the work required enormous concentration and dexterity- and as a beginning upholsterer this kind of precision is darn near unfathomable. So many things can spoil it! How, for instance, do you sight each line? Or manage to know your bobbin won't run out- granted I'm using a Consew Model 18 and it's very basic, but...dang, man- you are good.

Hello Nicks, Thank you very much for saying so. I did realize as I was sewing that up, I was in cruise control not giving it much thought. I guess that's what happens after 43 years. I did have the lines drawn out in pencil. Please keep liking and watching!

yes daos, I'd say the 'original' was redone at a shop. Our guy did a much better job!

What’s your preferred pen for marking that doesn’t show or is removable? Great stuff and the result is excellent!

White china marker for vinyls and leather. Other colors can stain light-colored vinyl. What I used here because of the small size was a pencil.

I went through the video and you just helped me realize that I did not state any technique numbers, thanks for checking!

I assume the piece has to be longer before you pleat. How do you determine the starting length? What type of pencil/marker did you use?
@oldschoolautoupholstery
@oldschoolautoupholstery 2 года назад
Great assumption! For every 1/4 inch thick foam pleat, I'll add 1/8 inch of material length. for 1/2 inch foam, I'll add 1/4 inch length on the material length. Here I used a pencil.

Where did you find that Pearl material? Think GTO had something similar. Love all the videos you make it look easy

On that thinner foam, do you attach it to the material with your regular contact adhesive?
@oldschoolautoupholstery
@oldschoolautoupholstery Год назад
Hello Big, That is right, I use the contact adhesive for everything including gluing the 1/4" or 1/2" scrim foam to the vinyl. Please keep liking and watching!

Thanks for the info. I am going to amass some materials tomorrow to give this a try. Probably not 1/2" pleats though at first! :)
