When my brother was six, he had to come to school dressed as a famous English person. My parents dressed him up as the Sex Pistols. Imagine the look on their faces when that appeared amongst the David Beckhams at a posh British school. Not all of his teachers appreciated it but those that did loved it.

when we played this in my rock band in the 1970s we didn't have RU-vid to show us the lyrics - so we had to listen to the vinyl many times trying to work out what the words might be - many of them we never got - now they're all displayed here for me - oh, we didn't have that !

I was 14 when this came out. Shock and horror!! Was the reaction in those days, living in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Looking at it at 61, I find it surprisingly mild. It was revolutionairy. Political. Crying out the truth about how young people viewed their future in the late 70's. I miss that kind of music. I miss someone rebelling against the machine. Never mind if it are the Pistols or Dylan or Seeger. Nowadays people in western Europe are lulled to sleep by a certain comfortable lifestyle where you don't have to be hungry, naked or homeless. Apparantly, that's all that people want. 😢
