I always wondered why this song was not recorded for the Bullocks album. It's a really good tune and was being played regularly during that whole time.
I've got about 30 gigs of the Pistols on bootleg cassettes I bought back in the 90's. Throughout all those gigs, even the bad ones (and there was more than a couple) this song always sounded good. I don't know what it was, if it was the dynamics of the song, Matlock's original driving bass or the drop out and snare drum return in the middle of it but as someone who has listened to about 25% of all the gigs they ever played, this is definately their best song.
@jeffpoonkrock Malcolm MaClaren put the Pistols together after coming back from New York where he managed Television and had a big part in The Ramones, also saw bands like The Stooges and early Blondie ect. He based The Pistols on those bands. Thats a fact mate, like it or not. Thats why some people say punk was american and not British. Although i do believe the ethos of Punk was invented here in the UK.
That's the thing, McClaren saw this music, but that's all it was stateside, just another music trend, but everything about what people perceive and perceived as Punk was truly born out of the UK, the fashion, the attitude, the energy, the youth movement of of jilted generation that finally had a voice to tell the establishment where to stick it and the legacy of what Punk is was well and truly stamped and everyone wanted to be just like my hero Johnny here. A legacy that went so deep, it changed the format for what metal became, so much so, you can hear it echoing through thrash and the later metal genres there after.
Who else had the balls to dress and act like this back in 1976-1977??? The Ramones were a great band, no argument here! but to take the shit these guys put up with was unreal back then. They didn't make any real cash until Malcolm M exploited Sid's death!!! 110% punk that influenced EVERY band afterward!!!
True,Johnny got stabbed and Paul got beaten up on the street both in London....Even in London in 1978 -79 I got stuff thrown at me for dressing in Punk gear
@MsSaturn3 I highly doubt that the MC5, Ramones or, especially, the Heartbreakers, were influenced by the Sex Pistols ( love em, btw ). As great as they are, they did steal some of Johnny Thunders' stuff ( Steve said so himself ).. You have to remember CBGBs had been open for 3 years by then. . I will give the Brits credit though, we were influenced by the Who and the Kinks.
@mytoprecords It's funny cause you post the same comment on like 20 sex pistols videos, and every time your trolling is called out, and your plan to offend fans fails miserably.
Only at the end just before the band split up.. Sidney was a heavy heroin addict.. He used to get up on stage so stoned he couldn't even stand up or play! When he was sober he was actually a very good base player.. He changed the way base was played for rock and punk forever. Before sid came along it was considered wrong to play base with a pick. But Sidney insisted it made the base sound more electric punkish.Turned up he was very right. And now to this day people play base with a pick.
Yeah mate I agree-I have heaps of rare bootlegs & even on the Winterland gig it was pretty good.Chemsfield prison gig is my fav bootleg though-when John tell's the crims to "fucking move,do something!"
@j0eX Sid learnt to play bass to the Ramones first album (he COULD play, he was just too messed up to). I think MC5 were more of an influence on The Clash and the Ramones, and of course the Heartbreakers influenced them all.
Steve Jones was quite a good guitar player considering he only started playing a year before this was filmed. I love those fills he was throwing out in this footage
I was there too helping the Swedish support band. The backstage area was full of shit and lipstick on the walls saying obscurities of all flavors - it was all PUNK !
@MsSaturn3 Bullshit. punk was founded in early - mid 70's in New York by bands inspired by Iggy and the Stooges, such as the Ramones for instance. The entire English punk scene was inspired by the American, and the English bands, like Sex Pistols, would have remained unknown if American bands hadn't toured in the UK around 75-76. In '77, Ramones had released 3 records and the Dead Boys had released 1, so yeah, the Pistols was hardly alone on the scene. Go do your homework
Ascolto i sex pistols da quasi 40 anni Questo è il loro pezzo migliore Molti li hanno criticati e snobbati Grandiiii! Oggi ho riascoltato questa canzone Ho tanta rabbia dentro Voglio essere me
