Clean and distorted rhythm comparison between Seymour Duncan Jazz SH-2 (passive) and Seymour Duncan Sentient (passive) pickups for electric guitar on the neck position. Settings are the following:
GUITAR
Model: Custom strat (alder body with canadian maple neck)
Tuning: Eь / D#
Strings: D'Addario EXL140 (010-052 gauge)
AMP
Clean: EVH 5150 III profile (Kemper Profiler)
Distortion: EVH 5150 profile (Kemper Profiler)
RECORDING TECHNIQUE:
- One centered mono track per pickup.
- Same config and EQ for both.

Well, they are seriously close. IMO the Sentient's lower resonant peak works to its advantage in a Strat style guitar like in this demo. Thanks for doing this!

I can tell you, I play C standard and whatever neck pickup I am playing always sounds too dark and muddy, my other guitarist however , plays a jazz in the neck and his cleans sound like a bell ringing,,,clear and beautiful !!!! Im tired of thinking he's just being "old school", with his jazz!!! if you love modern metal, but love those Iron Maiden (but down tuned) cleans...Jazz!!!!!!!!!not alpha/omega...not nasgul...Not whatever winter...all fine for crushing villages, but if you EVER want a calm before the storm(clean) JAZZ!!!!!!!

Pretty much how they describe the Sentient as being in between the '59 and the Jazz...it has more warmth like the '59 while retaining the clarity of the Jazz. Depends on your taste...do you want richer bass with a bit more scooped mids and sparkle on the highs or a bit warmer, more balanced sound with good definition? Great comparison and tough choice for sure!

sentient is good neck pickup, the sound of sentient is similar to 59 neck; the sd jazz, for me have a sound more open in mid frequency and that, I like more to me thanks for all this videos

clean is super close. dirty sentient definitely has better clarity and tightness over the jazz

Though both are outstanding pickups, I thought the Sentient sounded more integrated (balanced) over the six strings.

Sh2 - so fat and some dirty with bright bell tone, sentient - is clear. But I think, if some dawn tone cnob then you'll get sound of sh2, but without bell tone
