Excellent demonstration! Systematically allowing me to compare the different tones. I keep watching because I'm waiting for my custom build with the SD P-Rails and just so excited about what it will be like to play. Hey James! This is cracking, that mod has made the Jim root tele really versatile. I'm hugely impressed. I have a set of p90s in a semi hollow that I love and a separate USA tele, I've never used a rail pickup before but with the mod you have that range of tones is crazy. Thanks for making this, still a great informative watch even 4 years later!

Hey..thanks for checking out my videos. I didn't have any specific expectations about the sounds I would get from the P-Rails. I just though it was a great idea that would give me some new sounds. Each time I use the guitar I am finding new tones and variations, so I think they are definitely worth checking out.

Excellent video!! I went nuts and installed them in my '98 Parker Fly Classic. Had to route a bit - which was nerve racking, but I love the sound. No risk, no reward.

Godin Icon type 2 Convertible comes with them and built in mini toggles for each. Great LP style guitar from North American producer. Very comfortable slight D neck on them. Highly recommend!

You can also look at the Seymour Duncan Triple Shot pickup surrounds, which have micro-switches built into them to give you all 4 options from each one (rails, p90, hb series and hb parallel)

The switching was actually just a temporary arrangement so I could work out exactly which options I wanted to use. On most guitars you could have the switches easily mounted on the pickguard. You also have the option of using push/pull pots for the switching.

Like those PRails, say what you want, they're some of the best sounding pickups around today...I run Seymour Duncans in my Telecaster style custom made guitar, but I went for STHR-1n High output single-coil-size "rails" humbuckers in the neck position and for a balanced attack I use the Little '59™ for Tele ST59-1b This lead pickup is a hybrid. Designed for the Telecaster player who wants to rock, this little beast delivers a warm, smooth tone, reminiscent of an old '59 Patent Applied For humbucker mixed together with a healthy dose of beefed up twang. Comes in black only with four-conductor cable. If you're aren't carful, it'll jump outta your hands and chase single coils around the room..The Tele styled guitar just has a lot more "soul" than the Strat, in my opinion. No offense to single coil lovers!!.

Yep, there are 2 switches on each mounting ring...if you set both switches one way, it choose a coil. If both switches both face inwards, it gives you series humbucker, if both switches face outward, it gives you parallel humbucker...very cool :)

Hey! I'm a full time muso, including working for Fender Australia. The new 50 watt 5150 is just killer. It sounds great at lower volumes but it's also REALLY loud. It has midi switching too

Series is the normal humbucker wiring where the signal goes through one coil first and then through the other thus creating more output. Parallel is when the signal goes through both at the same time. Like the 2 and 4 positions on a Strat

I really liked how, instead of installing Seymour's Triple Shot pup rings, you went with the option which requires stopping midway and peering into the back of the guitar and hoping you've selected the coils you want. That must make things SO much easier on a dark stage during a gig. Props. Maybe you're just a masochist.

This is the new 2X12 which uses Celestion heritage 30w speakers. The cab is a really great design which has a huge tight bottom end.

That is one very versatile rig. My favorite was CH 2 dirty Humbucker Parallel Middle. That ha some great spank.

can't beat the sound of a bridge humbucker for high gain!! that is such a simple formula but it works so well imo.

Sounds amazing... I going to get a JR tele and wondering how you did the ground when putting in the new pickups.. I heard it's a little tricky... amazing necks on these things...

@Creed24Nickelback - Parallel is less output and slightly more quacky. Strat pickups in the notched 2 and 4 positions are in parallel. Series are fatter and higher gain - a traditional humbucker has two single coils wired in series.

I like the '59 and I really want to try the new SD hybrid 59/custom. There is no perfect pickup that will do full on metal and Hendrix cleans but the Duncans are great and there is plenty that will do a great job. The Creamery is a fantastic company that will build you any pickup you want.
