Dude…. You just cleared up a 30+ year mystery for me. I’ve never had anyone explain the basics of how guitar wiring/signal path works as well as you did. Excellent - thank you 🙏
Great video! Great explanation!!! I did the same as you. Followed a SD wiring diagram today that didn’t work with my guitar, then had to learn why!! Your video took me through the steps with just the right level of detail and beer! Thanks!!
I think the confusion was with the selector switch. When looking at it upside-down, the left side is 1-2-3-C. The right side is C-1-2-3. You were sewing the right side as C-3-2-1 in the video which may have caused problems when following a schematic. You'll still be better off knowing what you know now, but I believe that was the root of the problem.
Same thing happened when I followed directions to install my Dimebucker pickup set. I just rewired the toggle switch to correct problem. It's just 3 selections and not 5. So it was a little bit easier to fix. Thanks for info. You did help me figure it out.
For years I’ve been filled with self doubt in my intelligence in a wiring a dam pickup your drawing is so clean ( don’t mean that as a joke) I can see it I really can thank you Cheers 🍻
check out the Carvin custom HH 5way wiring. Works perfect. Yours isnt right my brother but great explaining how things work for sure. Nothin but love friend.
Thanks for the help! I’ve spent two entire days wiring and requiring that exact same Duncan diagram. It put the bridge in the middle position which is terrible. Does anyone know how to get the middle position working?
I haven't dabbled with the wiring yet and I'm not very intelligent. So unless I'm wrong and it messes up other positions.. when he talks about the 3rd position in the video and jumping pins for the two inner coils. Maybe if instead of which ones he says could be jumped, try the black from both coils to see if that gets you normal position 3.
@@gregvaughn123123 I looked into it more and tested all of the other possibilities. Apparently this impossible to do with a super switch or hyper switch
I think your 5 way switch is not the same as a standard say oak switch. That switch you have is wired as a type of 5way Japanese designed DM 50 i think. Its not the same as a standard strat 5 way.The diagram is ok its for a standard 5 way not the one you have.
WHAT....I get ya that there are some guitarists that don't have that NEED to be acquainted or even knowledgeable about their EQUIPMENT, from the PICK in your hand to the SPEAKERS pumping your sound, always know what your equipment's electronics function !!!
At least you get some sort of a sound... I've been dealing with 2 Humbuckers; 2 volume pots 2 tone pots a 3way toggle switch. And a coil tap on each tone pot. Been using the CTS circuit board type pots. I can't hear a thing.....I've been at this for years. Nothing more entertaining than changing a few things. But damn I must be getting stupid or god forbid Woke. Good luck man.
