Not just Ryu, almost every characters do not have a consistent solution to bypass Guile fireball + long range normals, your chance of winning Guile by ground game is low, his advantages of ground game is obviously higher than most of the characters. For most of the characters, if they want to win Guile, they need to take the risks, either bet on jump in or DI, if you do not willing to take the risks, that mean Guile has zero risk(almost) to fire his fireball, this is equal to giving up the match
Sound analysis. The difference between Ryu and the other shotos is the lack of a safe neutral skip for Ryu as opposed to all of the other shotos and some of the other characters. Ryu is so honest, he is at a decided disadvantage against Guile, and more so than the other shotos.
I would have thought your worst MU would be Akuma since Ryu is basically Akuma but worse and with fewer tools. As a Guile main myself though the Ryu match doesn't bother me much but holy hell what is with all the jumps, DI and sweeps. That is well below master grade, especially if your sweeps are getting blocked. Guile's sweep is a good whiff punish tool but the key is your opponent has to whiff something, this guy's just going for the press and pray method. I'm in diamond and honestly some masters are easier to beat by a mile than upper tier diamonds.
It's debatable as to whether Ryu is worse than Akuma. It is true that Akuma has more tools, but Ryu is just as strong, and the health is a tremendous advantage. Akuma, because of his tools, is definitely more tournament viable. As far as Guile is concerned, most Guiles that I play, spam projectiles, drive rush forward and either go for the overhead or grab. If that fails, then they empty jump grab. If that fails then I see random DI's. The sweeping in this matchup was excessive, even for Guile. I have no reasoning for that. Both matchups suck. Bison especially. It's just good to get input from other Ryu mains. Ryu is an honest character, so dishonest, nonsense characters will give him trouble unfortunately. Thanks for watching!
As a Kimberly main, I agree. Despite having a strong projectile play I feel like Ryu is at it's best on mid range, and Kimberly has a nearly infinite amount of ways to get into close range, as well as many safe projectile punishes
