I think he wouldn't even make it to the sentry. He probably would have been shot in the face by a Hale's own professional killstreak australium sniper counting 15 000 kills with a pink unusual Bill's hat as soon as that gate opened....or that's just my experience in TF2 when standing still longer that 0,367 seconds.
BLU Spy: He could be you! He could be me! He could even be - {BLU Soldier shoots at BLU Spy...and he is unharmed} BLU Scout: WHOA WHOA WH - BLU Spy: What...? BLU Soldier: Huh... BLU Heavy: Good idea! {fires minigun at others; BLU Soldier and BLU Spy are unharmed, but BLU Scout is revealed as RED Spy and is now dead} BLU Soldier: Thanks for the aid! BLU Spy: Well played. BLU Heavy: Hah! I am big war hero.
if Meet the Spy was accurate: Blu spy: He could be you, he could be me, he could even be-- (blu soldier shoots blu spy's head off and everyone freaks out) Blu Soldier: What? it was obvio-- "Blu Soldier has left the server. (Kicked for team killing)"
Well yes, positioning is very important when it comes to strafing a sentry. If one was placed in 2fort's between the first spawn and two stair cases to the upper level and intel room, you could prob strafe it easy enough to get close enough for flamethrower attack. Yet in normal flat areas you'd be given the 5 seconds of the hit-scan working before it kills you.
Thanks for the edit. This is one of the most misleading MtT videos in terms of showcasing things that classes can't do, right up there with Meet the Spy when Red Spy slides that sapper underneath the sentry.
You'd say that about the Demoman 2-hitting a level 3 Sentry and the Engineer's Sentries firing at distant targets. The Demo's Loch-and-Load and the Engie's Wrangler were introduced to make those situations possible. One of these days the Scout will be able to land crits while falling from far above, to reflect the Scout's finishing move against the Heavy.
A good scout will just go around after hearing the first "blip". A good scout can circle around a sentry and destroy it. Use boink if nothing else works. But yeah, it's sols', spies' and demos' job to remove these things.
Meet the sniper was a bit more than a week before the flaregun was released, and meet the scout came out more than half a year before Bonk! Came out. Meet the sniper was hinting at the release of a new item by showing the actual thing. In no way could meet the scout have been intended as a hint for bonk, so much earlier, and even if it was, nobody could have known without the special effect or without seeing the drink itself. And even if it was, they would probably make him all jumpy instead.
Very true, but I actually think the sandvich may have been added as an item in response to that, rather than the other way around. And even if it's not the case, 3 months with an obvious indication that there's something new is considerably different from 6 months and no indication that there's any new mechanic or item coming into play.
In "Meet the Scout" they made it so that the turret did not hit him to show that the scout was running fast, but the turret would have hit if it was NOT shooting at the legs, the position of which is constant in motion.
During the "Team Fortress 2 is Free to Play" trailer, they showcased many item sets that didn't even exist at the time. This was back in 2011. They showcased the #1 fan set, 1001 demoknights, saharan spy, planewalker's helm, and all of the beggar items for Pyromania. During meet the engie, which was in 2010, they showed off the robot heads for MvM. After each one of the "Meet the" videos, they released items and weaps that were either showcased, or to fill in the gap for why something occurred.
Pretty good for first SFM, It may not look hard. But the camera changing. Getting the sentry to actually do that and others. Well done. You should now try the animation side of SFM now! :D
Well, the thing is that bonk came out 6 months later than Meet the scout, whereas the sandvich was sneak peaked and released shortly after, like the flaregun in MTSniper. Furthermore, the disguise smoke in game would likely not be there if morphing models was an easy thing to do and could be done accurately, but like you said to preserve the artistic part, it wasn't in the spy's video. Bonk, however, is quite clear and not obstructive at all like the smoke, so there'd be no point in removing it.
They can wear achievement hats (gibus, sd milestone hat or hats you get from pre-ordering another valve game, for example) or hats they were given (either from a one-sided trade or a gift).
Again, I'm not denying that possibility. On the other hand, from the angle he took it, it would swivel faster than he would get around it, and not to mention that once the sentry actually starts shooting, the bullets always hit- and as we can see, the sentry did indeed shoot at him.
Yeah i agree with him guys, when Meet the Scout came out, the Bonk! Atomic Punch didn't exist so there was no chance on dodging these bullets back there
I don't know I thought so too for a while but I think it's an illusion created by the background. I could be wrong though, I'll have to inspect it more closely. Also, I didn't go with that option mainly because it'd require rewatching more than a minute of the original meet the soldier to reach the spoofed part.
i wouldnt believe it either until i saw the same shit last night with a pyro vs lvl 3 sentry. he zigzag jumped and was able to destroy it before it locked on to him. granted this was at dustbowl and he jumped from a ledge located at reds final cp.@Zairuen
It's called TEAM fortress two for a reason. When you join a competitive team, you don't learn how to pubstomp, you learn how to do your job as long as your teammates do theirs. A scout on his own against an engineer should in no realistic circumstances be able to take him out. As long as the engineer keeps a dispenser up, he'll keep himself and all his buildings at full health while the scout wastes all his ammo. It has everything to do with teamwork.
No, you can strafe around any level sentry as any normal-speed class for about 5 seconds, if it's in the right place - scout can definitely strafe around it, but he would eventually be too fast and run back in front of it. You can probably do it with slower classes too.
The scout in question ran full on into the sentry's range. I know most people aren't that dumb, but the point is this is what would have happened if someone tried that very same thing in an actual game.
I think trading risk for effectiveness can definitely be balanced. For example, the Black Box, reduces the risk of death by recovering HP, but limits your effectiveness in combat by giving you only 3 rockets per clip. Or the half zatoichi, you stay alive longer if you get a kill, but if you don't, you're stuck with huge limitations. It's just a matter of how it's balanced out.
Sentries are essentially hitscan aimbots. Sure, you can run past them while taking some damage, but you can't DODGE them like he does in meet the scout.
If he were a pro scout, his demo would have cleared the sentry and then he would have run ahead and taken out the enemy medic, demo, soldier, and then the rest of their team in that order.
MrSamulai They never miss. EVER. Unless you have bonk, uber, or cover, you can't avoid their bullets. I feel like Valve initially had sentries being relatively accurate, but still capable of missing.
Sam Geuvenen It's possible. My explanation is, you know how sentry bullets push you back? If it wasn't for that, faster classes like scout could run past them if they had full health. This mechanic likely didn't exist when meet the scout was scripted. Still, sentries are not op. They are rather powerful when used strategically, but every other class can make just as much difference.
Sam Geuvenen Scout: Use bonk to get its attention and let team kill it safely. Soldier: Obivious Pyro: Shoot it with flares or reflect rockets back to it. Demo: Obivious Demoknight: Wait for engineer to leave and for sentry to look away, then rush in, circle around it (you move faster than it can track) and whack it with your sword. 3-4 hits usually do. Heavy: Outdamage lvl 2 and below, find an angle to lvl 3 from behind cover or shoot it from a distance with tomislav. Engineer: Nothing I know you can do. EDIT: Rescue Ranger bolts don't have huge damage falloff so take that and use same tactic as the soldier. Medic: Obivious. Medic(solo): Take syringe gun and use same tactic as heavy but treat all sentries as lvl 3. Or take a crossbow and use same tactic as a soldier. Sniper: Take out engi and then shoot the gun. Spy: Obivious. TL:DR: Sentries are good for defending strategic areas BUT they need constant attention from engineer and help from his team to keep alive. Anyone who has played a single class 100 hours or so has figured out how to take down a sentry with it.
for them to have gibuses they would at least have needed to dominate some one so yeah they would have been killed trying to do this before, a more likely scenario is that someone who watched the meet the team commertials but had never played would be in for some suprises, no throwable sappers, no sentry bullet dodging, no one rocket shot sentry kills, stuff like that
You think so? MvM was hinted at in extremely subtle hints that were intended to lead the community towards the future update, and that's exactly what it did. Beyond that, those hints served no purpose. Meet the scout did serve a purpose, as an expected part of a series of promotional video, and there were no tangible hints to any new items in it, and I highly doubt anyone suspected anything based on that alone. Also, there was only one MTS. There were dozens of small hints at MvM.
And finally, the scene with the sentry was bull because: 1. Spy can't throw the sapper, and it'd take much longer than it did to sap the Sentry. 2. He ran right in front of it without a disguise, so it would have just killed him.
Actually, the point of all of the Meet the ____ videos were to showcase the class, with a comedic twist, as every single one, showed off at least the important aspects of each class. Not to mention, they were advertisements to build interest in Team Fortress. Furthermore, with the release of SFM, the new purpose is to give budding editors and film makers a place to experiment and practice their craft. Valve even officially endorses it, they held a contest to see who could make the best SFM film.
Really? I thought this video is really well-made and the animation is smooth too, unlike a LOT of other sfm videos where you get jerking unnatural movements, but in your video the movements are more realistic
i used to be a crap shot in tf2, but i mained scout. while i couldnt actually kill many people, i was GREAT at pissing people off and surviving. it won my team a lot of matches.
I agree with that. I was just following the funny stereotype of them. :p I began to play after the the whole f2p update, since that was the first time I actually had a decent computer to even begin playing it. Though, since then I've actually become a paid player for the extra space and trading capabilities.
No, because he was readying up, remember? Did you even watch? He was checking if his scope was clean and fine for aiming, he was NOT looking out the window. Then when it started, well a running scout isn't the easiest thing to hit.
Yeah. I sorta get what they were going with the Force-a, a sort of pestering, refuse-to-let-you-be-anywhere-near-the-important-thing weapon, but does not really effectively do that, or much of anything else.
Again, even if this did exist when MTS came out, 1. The scout clearly had a scatter gun 2. The sentry actually fired. If the scout can go faster than the sentry turns that's one thing, but you can be sure that /if the sentry shoots, you take damage/.
maybe it has been just lucky or bad memory, but with the baby face at full you can kind of outrunn the sentry fire, getting little damage. of corse this is not the case so still perfect accurate.
I have an "I don't even care" disability, but it still works out pretty well. I mean I like being right, and at least being logical causes less shit than "I'm right because I am"
It truly is easy to be a Pro Scout. Never Stop Moving Strafe Don't Telegraph your strikes Know how to use your weapons Meatshot Defend your Teammates Time your Jumps And, Most Importantly Be a pain in the ass for the other team. Regular Scattergun does, at point blank, 105 damage, on a regular basis. 2 Shots, and every class but the heavy is dead. Dodging is relatively easy. Predict where they are going to aim, telegraph the wrong moves. Demos, Soldiers, & Heavies won't be able to touch you.
I just watched the original again. It looks like they used a heavy firing to emulate the sentry... And it wasn't locking onto anyone, it was just shooting at their feet. Not to mention the scout was teleporting all over the map in between clips like it's none of yo' business. Yeah I have no idea what to think anymore. Either way this would still be more accurate :Y
Don't you think it looked like the sniper was aiming for the other door? I mean maybe not, but I always thought that the shot where you see the sniper aiming was from the scout's perspective, in which case the scout wasn't the target.
Hence it being a simple hypothetical spoof of the video, as opposed to a vicious attack in attempt to bring attention to the degree of bullshit in the original video :P Of course what you said is true, but then again even if I were to be opposed to that, logical reasoning is not always advised on the internet.
If you read the wiki on Meet The Scout you will see that the sentry is not shooting at the scout it is a heavy. if you listen closely to Meet The Scout you can hear the Heavy's Mini gun
Maybe in the original meet the scout, it was before engineer had installed an aim bot software in the sentry design, in the same way how the uber duration in meet the medic is explained by the technology not being finalized? (as in the uber circut overloading and burning out afterwards then turning into the quickfix) Therefore I figure the original meet the scout video took place when engineer was just getting started and had not finalized the sentry software yet.
and then theres this other type of scout, which has a 15.000 kill strange scattergun, has the most badass hats you could think of, seems to do everything to just get that kill one you, then tells you how bad you are while he is playing 24/7 king of the hill and still doesnt know how to CAPTURE A GOD DAMN POINT WITH HIS 2x CAP TIME oh yeah, and of course he blames his team when they dont get the point and he loses and isnt shown on the mvp list
I love Engies who place their dispensers right behind their sentry and then QQ about it when you run up behind the dispenser, kill the engi, Sentrygun and Dispenser. Makes me feel awesome LAWL
