You may notice audio and video issues like footage having no audio, or my mouth sounds being louder than usual, or the frame rate dipping at certain points. Part of this was due to me mismatching my audio and video recording settings, and the rest was due to SFV being an absolute pain to record. I probably lost 50+ good recording clips to random stuttering.
The audio for this video was also a challenge, since I speak very deeply and softly, but SFV has lots of peaked, trebly audio like Poison yelling ITADAKI and SORE SORE SORE. The loud F-Zero and Street Fighter music was also a headache, but I think the finished product is listenable.

- Strike/Throw and Ambiguity
Another wrinkle of SFV's strike/throw game is that the defender can often walk backwards out of throw range in situations where standing still would force him to deal with the throw. Low attacks beat this back walking, and characters with good 2MKs tend to be high tiers, like Poison. This is why I emphasized that Poison can link from her 2MK on normal hit.
- Hard Metrics
These are mostly things that are codified as part of the game system: crush counters, the reward from a 3f normal, his own V-systems, and his poor oki.
The point about not being flexible in combos may seem odd because Gill is a combo monster, but he's kind of an all-or-nothing character. If you can't combo into 2HP or activate V-Trigger, then his combos are generally very tame.
- Soft Metrics
3f normals are the first line of defence for many characters, and most characters are defined by where 3f gaps are in their pressure. Mashing is VERY prominent in SF as a defensive option, so you absolutely have to have a way to beat it and continue pressure.
Many SFV characters are also notorious for being V-Trigger comeback machines, and although Gill isn't quite as bad as some others, he feels incomplete without having VT or VT activation ready.
- Comparison to Poison
You may notice that basically all of Poison's combos lead back into a dash and meaty throw situation. This is one of the many reasons why she's a top tier character. Her moves are also overall more flexible than Gill's, and she has more of them.
- Fixing Gill
Just to reiterate, I'm throwing stuff at the wall here. I'm sure Capcom has considered most of these ideas already, and we'll see what happens in the March update.
