A tripod is a critical piece of gear in a western big game hunters kit. To help give some more insight into what our key guys are using and why we decided to run through some of the setups being used. Tune in as Zack, Andrew, Kurt, Lyle, Tay, and Colby run you through their current hunting tripod setup.

Great info. I’ll be in the market for a tripod system for binos and my rifle by September this is super helpful! Thanks!

So glad to see the rest of the hunting community is embracing this. Especially hunting out west, tripods make those steep slopes or rocky faces so much easier to work on. No more stacking your pack as a front rest, throw the sucker back as a rear rest and you have a rock solid platform to shoot from!

Yes it's pretty amazing how this wasn't even a thought for many guys just five years ago. Now if your tripod isn't another possible rest for your rifle I feel like you're doing yourself a disservice.

Thanks for the information guys, decided to go the leofroto route and do Kurt’s setup. Must say that he was joking when he said it takes a little extra work to get it all setup with the rails. Attaching the atlas rail clamp to the tripod hunt is not an easy task. Glad it’s done, and bomber setup but some extra work for sure. Be prepared to get the drill and tap out.

Awesome video guys! I appreciate these kind of videos, it makes me think more about my own setups and how they can improve. Watching Kurt's setup kind of made my head hurt though. Tell him he needs to ditch all those pic rails and the ADM adaptor and just buy an Arca Swiss-Picatinny Lever Clamp like the Leofoto LSC-50 or a Sunway SDC-50 QR and slap on his leveling head. Then he can just use arca with his optics and still utilize the picatinny rails for shooting.

Great video! One question though: how is the adjustment/ locking on the leofoto 255 cex; Is it possible to adjust the friction so that the gun won't move without you toching it, but you are still able to move it around?

Great video. Not trying to steal the thread but you guys should check out my new tripod the Tricer GTP-I. You are modifying tripods and I have one that will save you lbs and still work sit to standing. Again great stuff and I love your gear.

Zach, sweet tripod. Im considering getting the same one. Would you recommend the center column with the micro head or go with the anvil 30 head. Thanks great video.

Hey Paul, Zack here. If some weight savings is important then I like the micro ball head the tripod comes with. I shorten my center post for hunting as it does shave a little weight. If I was doing more day hunts and general shooting and this was my primary "do it all" tripod I'd definitely put the Anvil-30 on there. It's the gold standard and is a dream to use in my opinion.

They don’t make the names so hard - the numbers and letters all mean something. It’s an LS series tripod which means it doesn’t have a center column, so it closes up to a smaller diameter. The first two numbers are the diameter of the upper section, in this case 25mm. The third number is the number of sections, in this case 5. The CEX means it has a leveling base built into the apex. LeoFoto uses standard tubing sizes, so the leg diameters of a 255 will be 25mm, 22mm, 19mm, 16mm and 13mm. I own an LS-224, that 13mm section is too thin to be stable, and it doesn’t take 3/8” spikes to sink into the ground and make it more stable. In my opinion the LS-284CEX is the better tripod for your needs. If your hands get cold and your gloves are too bulky to work with, there’s a trick. There are motorcycle grip hearers sold on Amazon for around $15. It’s nothing more than a hearing film, some wires and a piece of shrink wrap tubing. Mount that on one of the upper legs with a 12v battery connection. I use a small neoprene gear bag that acts as a glove for the heated section. Heating your hand actually makes it easier to stay warm. I’ve had friends offer to carry my tripos because I have the heater…

if looked else ware not labeled hunting tripod, Evumo has a really nice and strong one, much cheaper price tag attached.. plus I have two plates, can use Arca swiss on both which is going to open your options way up!!! sorry but I see yours there and then think yours compared to mine, looks like a puny little B!! not sure if you can change out the heads on little dinky but can you change out the mounting plate..? oooh I bet yours can't support your weight can yours support your weight???? lets talk options some more here, I have two mounting plates that can quick release as well one is a stationary plate you can mount any option of heads on be it a 55 ball head to a geared head, the other is a Bowl half ball style joint plate with adjusting knob doubling as a handle as you adjust your shot like a forward grip that you can also mount a head to for even more options again, both plates have a hook to hang weights from to stabilize it even more, yours have spiked feet you can put on, are yours even swappable, sorry I do not see how this tripod is worth the price or offer any thing more then some heavy camera bipods being sub $500 mine is a $300-$500 and I will pick mine over this $1400+ one in a split second honestly got mine for $289 and discounts down to $265 out the door, has more options it's much stronger high quality manufacturing carbon fiber as well.. honestly even a bog pod would be a better bang for buck over this $1400! think you got ripped off honestly

Great video with some really nice setups. I haven't tried adding an arca-swiss plate to my rifle yet but my tripod and head combo should easily handle the weight so I'll have to try that out. One big tip I picked up a few years ago is to use my ballhead in a mini gimbal configuration. This eliminates that floppiness and having to constantly tweak the amount of friction. This set up should work for any ballhead that has a small notch cut out in the side of the metal part that grips the ball (both ballheads in the video have the notch). This guy does the best job of describing how it works starting around minute 4 (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2A-vO9PR0RI.html) As long as you get things balanced correctly from front to back you can use a ballhead as a mini gimbal to create an almost hands free glassing setup. I've been using it with my spotter for a few years and would never go back. Hope this tip helps someone!

@@stoneglacier9636 do the binos with the RRS clamp still fit in a bino harness?
@stoneglacier9636
@stoneglacier9636 Год назад
@@kevingriffin1030 Zack here, I run my Leica Geovids with the RRS clamp and keep it on when running it in my large Skyline bino harness. It takes a bit of breaking in but now it works quite well and very rarely hangs up. Just depends on which model of binos you run and where on the barrel of the binocular the clamp is located. I think it would work best in our large bino harness as there is some extra room there.
