This is the BEST review of this drone (features, technical and flight) that I've seen yet. And as Rob (below) also said, you're definitely in an elite league with your flight skills, especially considering that 25+mph wind that you flew the demo run in like it was nothing. Amazing! One thing you didn't mention is the how terrible the manual is written. I learned more about my drone features and how to fly it from your video than reading the manual 10 times. Thank you!
Excellent video! I've considered this drone in the past as an extra for others who want to fly with us. I just may have to purchase this especially after watching this video--and how well you flew into the wind! Thank you again!
By far the best review, your a really skilled flyer in that wind. The higher altitude footage was enough to convince me to buy one. Thank you. I just hope it lasts, My last cheap drone didn't due to gear wear, I promised myself I wouldn't buy another one that does not have the props directly on the motors (so gear free) but we will see with this one. On a still day I am hoping this is stable enough with the optical follow to be able to do some roof inspection!
That’s a difficult one… They both are from the same company (ZL Toys) and have the same features. The only main difference that I see is in the shape and design. The SG700 is foldable, while the SG106 is a little more aerodynamic (with the pointy & thin fuselage). Aside from this, they are both virtually identical (with the same controller and features, including optical flow, altitude hold, etc).…
It kept drifting away and crashing when I used it but maybe I just didn't calibrate the gyros properly... the remote was giving me all the problems. When flying with the app only it calibrates perfectly... not sure why... flying with the app alone though is dodgy. Hard as it doesn't respond as well as I am used to with physical sticks.
Excellently explained. Thank you. I think I'm going to get the 2021 version based off of your review. Thank you. I hope you're keeping well. EDIT: Fantastic flying dude. Wow.
GoodMorning, i have a white drone, not sure if the brand, it’s written [DRONE] on top it has the same controller but the HFUN app won’t connect with the controller can i get assisted. Please. Thanks
Look up quad copter 101 video on this drone maybe you can figure out why he had so many problems with the transmitter it might help others, thanks for getting back to me I think I might buy this one
You can find several spare batteries for this online (including multi-battery sets & chargers) on either eBay or TomTop .com (search for: ‘SG700 battery’). Here is a link: www.tomtop.com/p-rm9764.html
What is the trick in having it so far and returning it in the wrong direction,,,, I see it comes to you so straight and nice,,,,once its far i would think you can turn the stick unpreciscely, and fly it away or in the wrong direction of travel,,,any hints or ideas to keep a good return,,,,?
I simply fly it straight out (with its nose pointed in the correct orientation facing outwards), and then I simply yaw the drone back towards me as I keep the pitch forward, so that it essentially is doing a sharp turn and coming right back at me (with the nose pointed towards my orientation)…
is the drone footage unedited ? ive seen other reviewer like qc101 and his video isnt as good as yours, do you know the format from the drone along with the fps, resolution & bitrate, also is it using sd card? if so what r u using, thx
got the same drone but mine refuses to stay connected to the wifi, it flashes up briefly then drops connection. It also keeps hitting 100% power so when I hit the take off button it zooms off lol. How do you take off and how do you get it to hold position? Mine literally takes off and swerves in one direction so I have to hit the kill switch to crash it.
Well maybe first try flying it without the app (just the controller) to avoid any interference and then make sure you calibrate the drone (while it’s perfectly flat on the ground) prior to take off… That should ensure that the drone is balanced and has no interference with the cell phone’s Wi-Fi… Hopefully it will fly a lot better with that configuration, if not, you may have a faulty unit they may need to be returned or exchanged…
Hi, I ask, why not command the camera from the transmitter and a sd card inside the drone? Take picture and video from the phone and not with the buttons on the transmitter? Thanks and greetings. Piero
Yes, unfortunately many of these new foldable hobby quadcopters require the mobile app & WiFi in order to successfully save pictures & record videos. Even when they have photo & video buttons on the controller, they still need the mobile app connected in order to properly save those files. If I recall correctly, this drone was also designed this way. If the drone takes an SD card, simply insert one and try recording video (or taking pictures) using only the controller buttons and not the app. Then check the SD card and see if the video properly saved. Also, make sure you correctly stop recording the video before you turn off the drone (not doing so could corrupt the video file and make it unusable).
Normally, it is recommended to use an SD card if possible with a drone. The quality of the video footage saved to an SD card is usually superior with a higher frame-rate and no lag (which makes it smoother).
Thank you for your answers to me, the SG 700 has no sd card inside, is there the possibility to add a little circuit to put into the drone , connected to the camera, and finally have the possibility to save foto and video in the sd card ? Do I dream? Thank you again. Piero
Thanks, I want to try to insert in the drone a slot for sd card to connect to the camera and to see if it will work properly... Then I will say more. Thanks. Piero
First connect the controller to the drone (bind), then once that is done, connect to the drone’s WiFi with your phone & launch its app (using the ‘master’ option)...
Boy can you fly that drone great piloting ordered two great stuff although the supplier said they don't have a camera im a bit confused about that but it looks great fun to fly
Using the smart phone should have little to no impact on performance...As to the differences between those drones, I am guessing certain features set them apart (such as optical flow, GPS, 5G WiFi, etc).
I took the remote controller apart, the antenna on top are fake, I removed them and blocked the holes up. I also extended the small antenna wire inside the controller, I will test in future if it gives more range. I also had a bad crash trying to fly in really bad wind. I think one motor got stalled so burned out. I have spares so I replaced it OK, just cut and soldered the wires in the arm, all good.
Well, you can try regular line-of-sight flying without using the app or phone (just using the controller). That should have less interference and should fly well. As for using the WiFi, check to see if you are in an area with a lot of WiFi interference or if perhaps the bluetooth (or other signal) from your mobile device (or environment) is perhaps causing some sort of signal interference with the drone and making it lag a bit. Also, flying it within closer range might also reduce some of this lag.
I think i expected a lot for my 70 bucks- this is a fun drone but it flies like a boat in my hands. It looked very nimble and precise in your hands. great channel- You should do a top ten- you seem to do a lot of the low end drones.
hi, thanks for the video, when turn on my wifi it finds the divice, but it says that i dont have wifi or no connection. its not finding anything that starts with M8xxxxx, it says wifi_camera:xxxx any sugestions?
Well try connecting to the new WiFi entry that appears in your device’s WiFi list. It may be that they changed what appears there with the new production models. If that does not work, then perhaps you may have received a faulty unit or maybe your device is not compatible with the drone. If possible, try connecting to the drone using another mobile device to test…
How come the drone imagery is laggy on my ipod? It lags about 8 seconds of what I point the camera to. I've purchased 2 of these drones and they both lag. I see many reviews and those cameras didn't lag. Im not sure if the drone calibrates either, it just says "sensor calibrating..." and disappears after 2 seconds. Could it be my mobile device or app? Besides this, it's a very fun drone
The lag is more likely to happen the further out or behind an object the drone is from the phone...it is basically interference (or disruption of the video transmission)... If using the drone in close range (like for selfies), it should be less apparent...
So what is the flight time on batt everyone says 8.10.12 and the famous 20 min so what is the correct time do i need 3 battery’s to really have fun with it ... thought the bottom camera was some kind of a sensor to judge landing so u don’t plop down like drunk crow ..
That’s a tough one… They are both good drones… Each has advantages over the other and also disadvantages over each other… I’m not a big fan of the SG700 controller, but it is cool that it has the two cameras… Both drones look very similar... It is hard to choose... Perhaps maybe this one… I believe they are both coreless brushed motors…
I got this from Wish a couple of years ago and I never figured out how to bind it with the transmitter. I'm stoked on this video man, You RULE.. excellent very concise instructions.
Can u help me ? The drone wifi doesnt show properly.. its only shows "Wifi Camera..." and if i conect to it, in the app doesnt appears. In the app i get a blank bar.
Then I’m not sure what is going on… Maybe your device is incompatible with the drone or maybe the drone is defective and needs to be returned or exchanged...
I understand there are three or four models of this drone ,is your model the optical flow model ,and did you have any trouble flying with the stock transmitter, the quad copter 101 reviewer buy had some transmitter problems he ended up using the phone app and phone only for the transmitter,I kinda interested in this drone ,for 42.00 I found it for ,I just need to no is this good for beginners, anyone help
Yes, I have the optical flow model with the two HD cameras… It is very easy to fly for beginners... I did not experience any problems with the controller, but I’ve heard that others have had issues… So I’m not sure what’s going on with that…
rx344 this look identical to the S169 drone..its the same just different name? Mine says Optical flow Drone S169 & I can't find a app for it so I can use my phone to take pics or videos plz help
Yes, from what I see online it does look like a rebrand of the S169 (or vice versa)… They have two cameras (one of which is the optical flow camera underneath)…
This is really cool! I'd been thinking of getting this one for it's price and it looks pretty decent! Are there any trim options with this quad? I've been flying indoor and mini-quads so far, not sure if trim is only a thing with the smaller ones. With bigger quads like this, is the position hold reliable..?
This does allow you to calibrate the gyros (which is essentially a form of auto trimming) to balance the quadcopter and ensure a very even trim… At 10:00 in the video I demonstrate how that is done… But I did not see a clear way to apply trims (unless there is some obscure way of doing it, perhaps by pushing in the joysticks)…
They probably are… many of these small budget quadcopters have them for aesthetic purposes (when the real antennas are much smaller and within the controller housing)… but in any case, the range is still pretty decent…
Thx. My whole point on the other video I saw was that the guy categorically made that statement. They would only have to be made of a semi-conductive plastic though to be effective, with the actual lead connected at the base. "Decent range"? 160-170 m like advertised? Which is not bad considering flying LOS.
OMG! LOL...They make a "T8SG Jumper". A chinese knockoff of a Japanese radio....I have a OrangeRx. I bought it bc of this guys mod... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wr9jdI3k1Jg.html
This drone does not have GPS, so it does not have a true follow-me feature… I don’t recall seeing a visual follow-me feature on this drone, so I have not seen or tested that…
U r the only one who flies the drones u review.. Most of the other reviewers have just purchased their drones to hover around.. So stupid that they don't realize that the fun of flying a drone is it's speed n not hovering around throughout the video.. Anyways, could you please tell me if the camera on this drone transmits video in real time or is there any slight lag?
I would still pick the Visuo mainly because of its flight time. You can do over 10 minutes, plus the new Visuo that is coming out should be able to do 20 minutes worth of flight time… This one is kind of short on the flight time, it is less than 10 minutes…
Did you get the 2MP version? Remember all these new drones come in 0.3MP & 2MP versions (quality vs price trade off). I always try to get the 2 mega pixel versions to get clear 720p HD video in wide angle...
Greetings! My SG700 had a fall in a tall grass field. But it hasn't suffer any hard shock. No bruises, nothing broken. Everything seems OK. But, one of the motors simply stopped working. I had this motor tested and it is fine. Testing the circuit board, I found that this motor's terminals are not getting any energy (should be around 3,7V), while the others do. I wonder if the Drone's accelerometer may had had an abrupt changing and "disconfigured the Drone's memory". Is that possible? Does anybody knows if is possible to change the circuit board? (SG700-D). Thanks in advance.
OK I purchased this quadcopter, it's very nice looking pleasant design, built seemingly well, remote is also comprehensive, well marked and works well. However I can't for the life of me get it to work with the RC AND the phone, once you connect to wifi it will ONLY receive the takeoff control and then proceed to go nuts and crash, it will not accept control signal at all. it will work with the phone alone but it's is very sluggish and will work perfectly with the RC, however I want to be able to see my flight as it happens. Can you make a video where you go through all the steps up to flight outside, not inside in the kitchen and then go outside, so I can get it in my head how exactly it works for you?
Well considering it came from China returning is an endeavor better suited to those with patience, LOL, Actually I finally got the correct sequence to make it work, not unlike the one you explained. The bird goes on first, RC second, pairing 3rd (throttle stick up then down), calibration with sticks down and in 4, then connect wifi followed by app which should be set to master, sticks down and out motors on, takeoff manual or automatic, and it's all good. It's not a bad flyer, camera surprisingly acceptable, for fun anyway, too bad it doesn't have a SD card, funny enough I have a micro drone that has one, not fpv though but they do make the same drone with both. DO I recommend it? sure why not, it's a fun way to practice attire mode without destroying my expensive (very) inspire. As I feel you don't know how to drive unless you drive manual, you don't know how to fly if you can't fly in ATTI mode.
I bought this drone and it worked great. The only thing I didn’t like is that I bought the version that records straight to your phone and not an SD card and the footage was very jerky. Shame really because it’s very enjoyable to fly.
Well, while footage that is saved to an SD card is usually of higher frame-rate & quality, the jerkiness will only be reduced or minimized using some form of EIS (electronic image stabilization) or gimbal. The smoother the flight, the smoother & less jerky the footage will be, but a 2 or 3 axis gimbal will really make the video clear & straight. Unfortunately, this drone does not have EIS nor a motorized gimbal.
I haven't bought a drone off of wish yet and they do have some that say $400 but it's $40 or $35 tell has anyone gotten to buy one and how does it run ? ??????
Yes, the default package comes with just one battery, but it may be sold online in packages with two or maybe even three batteries… In any case, finding spare batteries for this is very easy and inexpensive…
