Hi Steve, I flew my SG906 MAX yesterday for the first time in a congested area where obstacle avoidance wouldn't let me go anywhere but backwards, sideways, and up. I had a nice flight out a few hundred meters and then did a return to home. I canceled the RTH using the RTH button on the controller when the drone was a few meters away from landing. I then noticed that the obstacle avoidance was now turned off and wouldn't turn back on until I landed and took off again. It looks like doing a RTH and then canceling the RTH will turn off the obstacle avoidance if desired as a workaround to turning off obstacle avoidance. It would be nice if there was a setting in the app to turn off, or, on obstacle avoidance. IMO, overall, the SG906 MAX is a nice budget drone.

THANKS!!! RTH cancels avoidance right away according to the manual I read. So doing a RTH, then cancel is much easier than pulling the module off. The community gives back again!

That would really suck. I was wondering what would happen if there was something closer than 20 meters at take off. Now I know. I don't think I could even fly this at home. I live in Alabama. So, ya know. TREES EVERYWHERE!!. I don't think I could even take off? Thanks.

I also ordered this drone last weekend, can't wait to try it. This is my first drone so the more safety features the better for me. I enjoy your reviews. I am in southern Nova Scotia you have a lot of snow currently the only snow here is what the plow pushed up last few years big storm is 25cm got one this year last 2 were 5cm followed by rain, Keep up the reviews nice to have someone from Canada doing the review

Steve, first thank you for you you do for our community. I have been flying my awesome MA2 all summer and decided to get the SG906 Max based on your recommendation, the specs and your flight video. This is one of the best beginner drones or for an experienced pilot who wants another drone to fly. The price and features are excellent.

STEVE ..... as a radio communications guy, I have an idea of how to reduce the Obstacle Avoidance problem. The laser must have a very wide signal if it interferes with flying it. My suggestion is to install a flat piece of plastic right underneath the laser lens protruding forward for some inches. That will flatten out the laser signal so it is aimed up, not down. Maybe a flat piece of about 3 inches wide and 5 inches long. OR try a round piece about 5 inches diameter snaping over the top of the OO laser so as it rotates it follows the laser signal. Another idea is to mount a square tube of plastic in front of the laser lens thus narrowing the laser signal, maybe a couple inches long

Hi I enjoy the different drones you test, but the question I have is. How does the SG906 Max compare to the Holy Stone HS 720E compare, and which do you think is better. I had a scary experience with my HS720E in fact it did a run away and after it crashed it would not turn off had to pull the battery to shut it down, make a long story short Holy Stone did send me a new drone for free and it seems to be working well. Has anything like this happen to the SG906 Max that you have heard of. This with the Holy Stone is not new have heard the same from other people who had one. I am thinking after watching your test with the 906 max I just might give it a try. My question would it be worth switching?

First of all, let me say thank you so much for the time and effort you put into this channel. I have a question which I hope you can answer... can the SG906 max2 fly without the CAS module installed? The reason I ask, is because if these drones are now required to have Remote ID, will the Remote ID module interfere with the operation of the CAS? I would think that if the CAS module turns back during reverse flight, if would see the RID module and prevent the drone from flying backwards.

1) I like that you can pop the module on and off depending on where you are flying (or do RTH then cancel, per ssb73q above). Close quarters are impossible to fly with the module on, as demonstrated in your back yard. 2) The SG906 Max is in short supply everywhere, with one vendor sending the module in a second shipment when they come in. I took a chance on buying a Max with no module (I like the controller more than Pro 2) and hoping to get the module separately later this spring. Either way I get the latest SG906 hardware and 3 axis gimbal.

I had the original sg-906 but gave it to a friend to get him in the drone game . I am really I'm pressed on how far the SG has came . In my opinion they are hands down the best drone if your looking for a budget drone

seems to work great! Wonder how long it will be before they add side and rear sensors. That would be a lot of stuff on top unless it turns into a 360 spinner.

SG906 is such a great in between drone. Not quite beginner, not quite advanced or hobby grade. It is durable, reliable and dependable! I personally consider the obstacle avoidance feature a beginner thing unless you are flying out of the line of sight and we all know we never do that.... lol. How much does the spinning laser beam cut your flight time? I would think significantly. We have been having 50mph wind gusts here in California so I've been grounded the last few days. That said, thanks for the videos! At least I can live vicariously watching you fly.

All drones at $300 above are like that, but budget drones require a calibration each time. The FAITH 2 was the last one that I did not have to do a compass calibration.

The cold makes all budget drones vibrate so it could be part of the issue. There are other videos online of this drone flying in hot/warm climates. Check them out to see if there is vibration.

Hi Captain, on watching your previous video of the SG906 MAX I noticed that the beeping rate from the controller increases proportionally as the drone gets closer to the avoidance object. This suggests that MJX or whoever makes the app can eventually put in a setting for obstacle avoidance distance. Then you can fly the SG906 MAX in your house or backyard?

The obstacle avoidance needs to be at 5-10mtr at most and it needs some really sophisticated intelligence so it can aggressively manoeuvre on its own in order to avoid the obstacle without manually having to do so. 💯👍

Android depends on your phone, and all phones are different, so it works fine on some phones but I can't say if it works fine on your phone.

Hey Steve , I've put about 5 hours of flight time on my Beast Max and I'm really enjoying the drone ,although flying in the cold New England winter has been tough ! The video is better and future proof on the EVO 2 6K as well as obstacle avoidance, but the flight interface of the DJI GO 4 APP is better if you need flight features.

Hi, great review!! If I use this drone while I am riding my motorcycle in a follow me mode and there is an obstacle while it follows me, will it bypass it and keep going? i.e. if a tree will it go higher than the tree and keep following me?

I just got my SG906Max and I noticed that the obstacle avoidance works in all flight directions. If I go backwards it rotates to the rear, if I yaw left or right it rotates left or right. Don't know if this is an upgraded feature but I thought you would like to know. (Makes it a real pain to launch from a congested back yard)

What is the maximum height and distance of this sg906 max pro? Also how many mode this drone has? And everytime i charge the remote control, i don't see any light that is charging why? Also where is the setting for height max of the drone software?

I have the sg906 pro was wandering if I could use a different controller as the one that comes with has poor antenna and not getting no where near the range I should be max I had is 400m

Do u have any idea how televisions broadcast live from drones specially during sports events???

They just grab the feed from the drone. For broadcast TV it must stream at 1080p minimum. Also, they don't use $200 drones.

Hmm, it looks like the obstacle avoidance mainly works for objects that exist from the midline and above. That seems less helpful for photographing roofs.

Great Job Steve, I had a issue, when I ordered my TripleTek pro, from Amazon, They sent me a tablet that had been returned, I received it 1-13-21, it was scratched up, and the accessories, were not all there, and just, flopping around in the accessories box, I called TripleTek, and they were Great, I had to Spend 29.00 dollars to send it to them, They stand behind there products, Now I must, hurry up and Wait, There customer service is excellent, I don't understand why Someone would treat there equipment like that, I didn't have time to make sure, that my New Lifthor tablet, holder will fit, I sent it back as soon as I could, I know that if anyone purchase a TripleTek pro tablet, they will be very happy and Satisfied.
