I'm at 24:51 and already have sweaty palms and feet! You are a brave soul! Maybe adding some flux in order to allow the solder to be more liquidy may help, plus letting the piece cool off so as not to crack the glass (ask me how I know this). I for one, do not have the patience to do any repairs, but yes, it's necessary sometimes. Okay, time to press play. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

The risk is ALWAYS there when fixing a cracked piece of glass. And you could crack another piece unintentionally AGAIN 😔. I’m putting down the soldering iron for now. ✌️

I use part of a soda aluminum can and wedge it into the seam as it melts off. Solder doesn't stick to aluminum. Card stock works too, I prefer the aluminum.

When you get a tail started of the foil, hold it with pliers, heat the solder to melt and slowly pull as it melts.

Nerve racking! I am not looking forward to replace the broken piece I had. Wish I've know Susan's wise words sooner.....

Now I'm at 1:13:40 -that's exactly what I ended up doing. I had made an 18" x12" TX flag, and as I was re-touching the solder, I heard POP. It was a tiny line, but it just ruined my moment for sure! I ended up gifting it to her instead, and now I'm about to make her another one. I'll get the old one back when I do. It's pure torture to do repair work, so I make it clear to people that it ain't gonna happen.

I’m thinking there’s something wrong with the glass. Was this glass from the old glass you bought that came with the cabinet? I’ve heard that Hobby Lobby glass is not up to a great standard so maybe that’s it. I think you’ve paid your dues with this project and it’s turned out beautiful. Thank you for your kind words. I really enjoy your videos and I was very glad when you started up again. I kept following you in hopes that you would return.

It’s still a beautiful piece of art. You worked your A$$ off on this one. If it was me…..that sucker would be up against the wall…..you are so patient. I recommend just moving on from this 😉

I have to stop watching; the anxiety over this repair is killing me. It looks like you're trying to remove the foil from connecting pieces. I'm not sure how you can "easily" remove one piece in an ensemble. I'm finding that when we think a project will be "easy", something always happens to change the course of the project, or how we think about it. I stopped at about 35:00. Sorry!
