It's encouraging class discussion it's probably an elective class not one of the core classes. It gets them to talk with one another. It's a great idea do you want students communicating with each other and expressing themselves
It's obscured by a student's head, but if you look closely, at about a second or two after 10:18 she slips her ped socks off and leaves them inside her shoes. When she puts her shoes back on the remainder of the video, she's barefoot and doesn't put the socks back on. They stay stuffed inside her shoes.
