Hello, this is Heisenberg, here to review the S.H. Monster Arts Shin Godzilla figure and compare it to all other Shin Godzilla figures. Joining me is Andrew from GForever.net. Andrew and I show:

Hi Nick! Yes, I plan to get the standard X-Plus and the NECA. I noticed recently that other companies are planning to come out with Shin Godzilla figures, but they are extremely expensive, so I don't plan to get them.

The latest photos of the upcoming NECA Shin Godzilla figure look very good. The NECA does seem to be proportioned more like a standard Godzilla.

Fantastic review of a less than good figure. I could excuse the paint apps if it was cheaper, but this is SH Monsterarts we're talking about! They made Biollante, one of my favourite figures of all time! I'll wait for the X-plus release, and maybe the NECA one too. If the NECA one had paint apps like these i wouldn't complain that much because it's a cheaper figure. This guy is just a waste of money.

The larger Bandai figure was only $35-$40 initially here in Japan. I regret not picking up a few when the shop near my house was fully stocked with them because they were all gone within a week - then the price skyrocketed (like all the other Shin Godzilla figures). I did manage to get my hands on the theater exclusive after seeing the film opening night in Tokyo... unfortunately the theater's gift shop wouldn't take credit cards, otherwise I would have bought a few :/

actually the mask is a sculpt by Naofumi Kanamori, a great sculptor, better than Sakai imo

That mask is sold in Japan. I do not know whom Andrew bought it from. It might have been on ebay.

can't say I'm happy with the figure. the head sculpt is wrong, and the paint is extremely sloppy.

Yes, some things I like about it, and some things disappoint me, especially for what it costs. I would really like to have the Banpresto figure, but I'm not willing to pay its high cost.

It's not the head sculpt. The head sculpt was sculpted by the same sculptor for the film. The paint is just terrible around the teeth.

I just saw that banpresto figure is coming down you know, I saw it for around $350 USD but right now is about $170 USD, I don't know why. I'd love to have this figuarts Godzilla since I have almost all of them, but the price is really high right now :(

Thanks. It looks like more and more companies are making Shin Godzilla figures, so you might want to wait and see if a different figure comes along that looks better.

I dont understand the very awkward segment of the review where you are demonstrating your problems with the tail only to cut away to a montage of the box while still discussing the tail. Was this intentional?

I wanted to show a variety of video, so the video does not always match what we are discussing. It did not take much time to show video of the tail articulation, but it took us longer to talk about it. Rather than show more video of the tail, I wanted to show the box.

Unfortunately right now the figure is only being sold in Japan. We hope it will one day be sold in the U.S., but so far they have not said that they will do so.

So far I like the X-Plus Shin Godzilla figure the most. I reviewed it in another video.

That is kind of weird that you can't move the tail around as much. I can get the tail on my Godzilla to go to either side and point around like the scene in the end of the movie. I don't recommend moving it to the side though because the weight of the tail is too much for the figure to support and he leans off one foot, over time he might fall.

I think that was only sold in Japan, and it came and went quickly. I have not seen one recently.

Just wanted to clarify: Loose limbs has always plagued SH MonsterArts. My first gen Godzilla's hands and tail tip pop off all the time, and the same goes for my SpaceG's head. :P Not much of a problem though. I mean you just pop em back on; no big deal.

Yes, I am able to put the tail back on this figure when it pops off. I do wish I could make it stand up straighter, like in the movie.

I paid about $100 plus shipping from Japan. It is only sold in Japan and it appears to be sold out. People are selling it on ebay but for much more. At some point I expect the company will make and sell more, but they might paint it differently, such as purple.

Yes, I have also bought some of my figures third hand for a high price. Now I check HobbyLink Japan at least once a day for new Godzilla items, because some Shin Godzilla items have sold out within a day.

Awesome review boys, but to be honest with you, for the price, it's a pretty shitty figure. I think Neca is going to take this one. I don't like the color scheme, the articulation is decent but the jaw is crooked and the face is pretty bad. It's looks too decent for a high priced figure, which is imported from Japan. The other Godzilla figures from S.H. Monsterarts, are highly superior to this figure. So I will have to wait and preorder the Neca version.

I noticed that when I change the lighting, the paint looks radically different, especially when I use a camera flash. So I show the figure with a variety of lighting: outdoor natural light, camera flash, and indoor lamps. The closeup video was filmed outdoors in natural light on a cloudy day, and the still photos were taken with a bright flash. I believe my figure is painted the same way as the others, and I just shine more light on it to try to bring out the details.

nice vid, but its disgustingly glossy, and the detail should be sharper....still, the design is INCREDIBLY complicated, so dunno... x plus will have a really hard time with this one XD

I think the paint on mine is the same as the others, but much of the time I show it under brighter light, to bring out the details, and under brighter light the paint looks very different.

The lack of articulation of the lower jaw is an egregious omission by SH Monsterarts. If you've seen the film or seen images on the web, you know that Shin Godzilla's lower jaw "splits" when he opens his mouth to use his laser.

Yes they did. It's called rushing out the figure. It also leaves open the option of adding that articulation in a second release (Spitfire version?) and get folks to buy the same figure twice.

Angelo Brattoli They didn't rush out the figure. The figure was being made around the same time as the movie was. They want to do a Spitfire release, obviously. The reason for no split jaw is FOR the spitfire release. That's not due to rushing. That's just a good way to get money.

Yes, lots of Shin Godzilla merchandise is coming out in Japan, and so far nothing is getting sold here. Only the NECA figure has been announced for the U.S.
