Air India just got new ownership. They are spending 400 mill USD to refurbish the hard product on the 787s and 773ERs and 772LRs. Added to that they just bought 70 billion USD worth of new aircraft.

I have enjoyed every trip I've taken on Air India. One way to experience India is to travel between cities by train. You will see a lot of countryside and interact with Indian travelers. Otherwise authentic India can usually be found within a few blocks of any tourist site, even in the biggest cities.

Interesting to see the soft product improvements already. The Tumi kits and mattress pad go a long way to making it a more premium experience IMO. Keen for the F next!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I agree that the Tumi kits and especially the PJs elevated the whole experience. And I was certainly surprised that the bedding came with a mattress pad, considering that this was a daytime flight. I just wish the mattress pad had been more, well, padded, but all in all, a much improved soft product! And for me, most importantly, the service definitely left me feeling like a valued guest.

@@travelswiththecontessa5307 that's good to hear. I've just booked AI for later this year and only a couple of reviews are new enough to show the Tumi kits and yours is the first I've seen with a mattress pad!

Despite the deteriorating hard product, the soft product was definitely good enough to make me want to come back for more! I'm keeping my eyes on award fares to see if I can repeat this journey in 2024 to once more experience the excellent service and Hospitality of the Air India crew! And no, no one has paid me to say that! 😊

I have been to Kochi before, but I want to get back and explore some of the more remote regions of India, meet local people, experience local traditions, customs and food, and explore the thousands of years of history, art, and music. Not consuming the usual tourist destinations, but rather admiring and experiencing the "hidden" gems that lay all around but go ignored by foreigners...

Looking forward to the first class segment. Soft product seems to be progressing with the Tata acquisition. Hard product remains yikes.

Thank you for commenting! As I tried to emphasize in the video, the service was pretty great - a vast improvement over what it was in 2018. The hard product definitely needs serious help, though! It is almost unfair for Air India to expect the crew to perform in such an environment, with everything breaking and falling apart throughout the flight. I felt really badly for them!

Air India is the worst airline to have ever existed. Korean Air or Asiana would have been a much better option.
