This is a good book. Does provide a step by step introduction to how to build things ru-vid.comUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 , also does offer some steps. Includes pictures to give you ideas for layouts and such. If you are looking for a guide, this is not exactly what you want. But if you are trying to familiarize yourself with the way that pole barn building and other out buildings, are made, then this will work just as you need it to. A few things in this book are a barn (of course), detached garage, storage building, and coops.

Have used this silicone render on a studio building. Did the back wall first and looked good until the sun hits it as you said. But didn't matter as no one will see it. The rest of the building came out very well. Will be great to see you using the sprayer. Great video Roger thanks for sharing

Hello Rodger, I used to paint house exteriors . 2 things I would suggest always paint in shade and follow the sun round the building meaning you are always in shade if possible , if I did have to paint in direct sun I would wear sunglasses as the sun reflects in the wet paint , basically its like looking directly in to the sun , same will happen with wet render . I've been in the building industry for over 40 years ,i always keep my mind open to new things, and you never disappoint . Keep up the good work, young fella 👍

I'd say that of all the variables in the application of render i.e. mix, hydration of backgrounds, floating etc. it is the weather that presents the most challenging aspect, even to experienced people. The UK weather is so unreliable that other than cloaking the whole job to provide shade and rain protection it often becomes a race to complete before it intervenes. This summer, 2023, in my area has been either blazing hot sunshine or pouring with rain - sometimes on the same day. So far I've lime rendered every wall of an outbuilding except the south-facing one, but have had to ensure that I was working in the shade. It has stretched to several weeks now waiting for the weather to settle down to dry overcast conditions. I've read some of the comments here about the poor application of modern renders eg. K-rend and from what I've seen on local new builds that are already looking bad. Best of luck to all those who have a rendering job to tackle.

My house is a 1970 bungalow. The cavities have been filled but it’s still cold as F. I don’t own the place, but if it was mine the stucco render would be ripped off and 4” rockwool laid over the top. Render and mesh as Roger says. Job done.

Looks like a comment below said a retarder is available. So my thought is, seeing it's such a thin coat, why they don't make it as a non set gloop until you spray it with a fast activator.
@andycrask3531
@andycrask3531 Год назад
I live in a new build and watching them render the houses behind us they put it on about an inch thick, no mesh to be seen though. It's the K rend stuff, we are having ours looked as it's cracked and as you know you can't patch it. Never buying a house with it on again

Always need 2 guys on a big section and let 1 guy fall back rubbing it up while the other keeps putting it on..putting a half a cup of water into the silicone finish when mixing it helps spread it more easily and goes alot further..good video
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder Год назад
Thanks John I was told that water weakens the mix and actually makes it dry faster because the water evaporates. I have no way of knowing if that is the case and I do see people diluting it just as you do when spraying paint.

I have a strange situation. I have a gas fire with a brick chimney chute at the rear of the house. The base has a foam insulating cover a few inches thick on top of a concrete base which covers the brick. Both the concrete and the foam are damaged. I need to figure out how to repair. Maybe point the concrete and refill the foam. A dilemma.

Professional renderer here - I've done almost a hundred jobs using silicone render. I can't imagine making a large wall perfectly, when working alone on a sunny day. You always can use retarder but... It's England. Every bit of delay is the risk that rain would come.

You’re only human and not infallible….people sometimes laugh when they see people tackling a new job on their home “ I wouldn’t try that I would get it done properly by an expert”. In my experience these type of people tend to be the ones whom do very little with their hands yet are quick to criticise others. It’s good to challenge yourself, otherwise what’s the bloody point ?!

@worldadventureman
@worldadventureman Год назад
@@SkillBuilder Age is definitely a consideration after 60. Even painting a ceiling will kick your butt if you haven't done painting in a while. Its repetition that makes the difference. If you'd been a renderer all your life that wall wouldn't have been an issue even at 70. I just replaced a 65sqm deck. 5000 screws and days of being bent over killed not only my back and hamstrings, but my much younger helpers too!

Roger, Great channel. Thank You. But....your recent discovery and inclusion of sponsor funded product placement and brand advertising videos has, in my own personal opinion, completely changed the viewing experience of your channel. As a subscriber, I feel the reputation of your former YT channel based on honest , hard working , independent and skilled tradesperson has been completely compromised by this relentless list of studio based ads or 3rd party trades DIY videos. Please please get back to making videos of what you do best - getting out there and doing what you do in your day day job. You may think they were tedious but believe me, your veiwers got much more out of them than this new. Many thanks
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder Год назад
Hi David One thing you learn when you run a YT channel is that people expect you to put in countless hours filming and editing and spend thousands on filming kit and then resent a bit of commercial support. Our ratio of sponsored to independent videos is still overwhelmingly in favour of the independent stuff but we have people telling us that we must do all this for love.. Oh I didn't mention the 400 miles I clocked up last week. Tell me where I can refuel for nothing and I will go there.
