Apparently they've never played poker because they always refer to the by the pot Theory. If you out bet the other person you automatically win. Everybody learns the truth of this the first time they sit down to play cards. Kind of like the five Aces theory.
@@nikolaspapakostas9022 in any game that you call Wilds it has to be a reasonable hand you can't have five Aces or a 6 card run. It has to be a hand that you can get in Five Card Stud. Nothing Wild.
See your 84k.....raise a million....see your million raise five million...see your five million raise infinite money....see your infinite money, raise infinite money times x2
@@TheTerminalExpress third problem...you cannot "buy" a pot anyway... he can still call with what he has access to. This movie pushes the idea that if I put in more than you have, you CANT call, and thereby lose... its a terrible point of this movie.
I mean, it's not meant to be taken seriously. Shade is a light hearted action movie. Next, you'll be analyzing how Batman movies are an "epic fail of a law enforcement scene." Looks like the only fail here is your epic fail of a RU-vid comment. 😑
movies screw up poker so often...the very 1st bet Jamie Foxx makes he say's "see your grand" he can't bet more...that's a string bet...and that's not the worst of this scene
Paul Burnette yea but I mean if he says I’ll see your grand and raise you two he’s basically saying 3,000 I mean he didn’t say it correctly but they’re not really gonna give a shit
That's only partly true. If you say "see your bet... plus" while pushing in money on top of his bet and then that doesn't apply. I've seen somebody try to pull what you're saying at the table and it doesn't fly.
This is not a poker movie, this is a movie about card mechanics. Im a poker player and a magician/card shark myself and to me this movie is the best movie about card mechanics.
Dude had to be nervous for a tad bit when he mentioned his 4 girlfriends .he probably thought he was gonna say they were all Queens .sigh of huge relief when he said 10's
It's incredible how bad the poker is in movies.. obviously the director, screenwriter and everyone else involved have never been in a poker room to witness a real game. Probably based their research on old western movies.
That's the point of NO LIMIT......if your opponent goes "ALL IN" don't re raise, or he will put a billion dollar check and you will have to shut your ass. Still, the movie is about a stage to take Foxx's money, and they were driving him into betting the cash.
now I dont play much 5 card draw, but why would you only draw 1 with trip 10s? wouldnt the only thing you're going for be quad 10s? or full house but drawing 2 doesnt change those odds... but drawing 1 cuts your odds of getting quads in half or am i missing something.
BossGambler I've been playing 5 card draw Poker for years ..it's real simple if you have 3 of a kind or 2 pair a pro would draw only one card hoping for either a full house or 4 of a kind.. Winning Hands ..I've done what Jamie Foxx's character did plenty times at the card table when I had a 2 pair or 3 of a kind ..and came out with full houses and 4 of a kind .it's too much of a risk drawing one card to get a flush or a straight .. usually another player can tell if you are trying for a flush or a straight because u take a while thinking if you wanna go for I card
trip is already a very strong hand even if you don't hit your draw, and there is very small chance of getting full house or quad, so drawing only one card is a way of hiding the strength of your hand in order to get paid if your opponent has two pairs, instead of drawing 2 cards that would be like screaming "I have trips".
If he doesn't have enough chips to call your bet you don't automatically win, you pull back the extra chips you have and the other person is all in if he calls. Who writes these scenes? A guy thinks he wins cause he has more chips than the other guy?
_String bet_ " I *see* your grand" _then says_ "and I raise you two grand daddies. How do you like that?" *he deserves to lose* He shoulda called, it was the first fuckin hand
string bets, adding money, if you cant cover the bet you automatically lose, weird betsizings, this is like nails on a chalkboard for any real poker player...
Yeah, every time you have a shit hand and the guy bets, just say 10M if you are rich and know the other guy only has 100K hahahha. Elon Musk would beat most of the people in the world just buy saying I’m all-in $170B
@kieku87 Do you publish books about cheaters and hustlers? By the way, is there any good novel about card cheat and hustlers? I have read the Tony Valentine series, but it was not that good.
Fox didnt win no Oscar for this movie.. Cant even hold the dam cards!.. i like this movie but.....why in the world did they lie about being able to buy a hand????
@kieku87 For fictional tales about cheaters and hustlers, I recommend Tony Valentine series. The only reason I recommend it is because it is the only 'con fiction' books I found. The series has some interesting concept about cheating on blackjack and poker, but the main plot is somewhat terrible in my opinion. It is still better than nothing though.
@kieku87 the magician and the cardsharp, and, it's based on a true story, dai vernon and charlie miller(that's how the characters in the movie got the name) are searching for a man who knows how to deal from the center of the deck...
AMEN! Hold'em is really the only game i play, i dont play seven card stud, five card draw, omaha, blackjack, badugi etc. (not that anything is wrong with these games)
@kieku87 Agreed, from what I've heard it's excellent/realistic re. card mechanics. Above=VERY stylish scene. Also VERY BAD scene, poker-wise. All the see it, raise bull$hit, standard film depictions of poker. Table stakes, lol bad. Also some would argue that with TTTK3 he should be taking 2 cards to fill up or hit quads (6% chance to draw a pair + 2 outs twice ~5 = 11% chance to improve, while taking 1 card = 2 outs once = just 5% chance to improve... but drawing 2 screams "trips!" so idk.
Most of comments are from internet-poker "stars" who think there is only 1 set of poker rules, and poker was invented the year they opened their PokerStars.net account......"dude this is not how you bet, if you have 4 of a kind, just go slowly, then do this and that"........."dude you cant say "see your bet" and rise"........."dude, this guys know nothing about betting, why he folded after rerise? makes no sense!".......... It's like Phil Mellmuth is making comments with 20 different accounts!
@jasonloseefu I dont write or publish books. I havent even thing about publish anything but maybe some day in far future I may write something. By novel, do you mean fictional tales about cheaters and hustlers? I am searching such books myself.
String bets and tells. Table stakes. No new money out of pocket during a hand. After Any player declares All in, the remaining players play for a side pot also.
I guess MY all-in is about the same as YOUR all-in. Oh wait, I have $$$$$$ in my coattails. I have a Marker $$$$$ And uh, this woman with his marker, makes the "call" for the guy? Would you perhaps like to raise as well? Cuz apparently, you can buy the pot by having more money than the other player(s).
Hollywood rarely gets anything right when it comes to poker! The string betting in (almost) every fucking movie is ridiculous, And you have to have a smarmy remark every single time the action in on you whether you bet, call, raise or even fold. Can you imagine playing in a game like that for 6 hours? lol .Even in the "old days" or the "wild west" you can't just win every pot because you are the richest bastard at the table. It's simple, what is on the table plays, you can't pull money out of your pocket, or your checkbook, or ask for a marker in the middle of the hand. WHY, WHY, WHY can't Hollywood just start getting the right ALL the time instead of DEAD WRONG 98% of the time?
