I wanted to update you on the progress of my shade garden and show you some of the decor pieces that I have thrifted to place in the garden. This is going to be a slow process but so worth it. The more I get done, the more I want to get done. I hope you follow me as I work to make this the garden of my dreams. Maybe this will even inspire you to create a garden of your own.
Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoy.
Hugs,
Joanne

I love the cat with the bird on his arm he woukd look good standing near the bird bath or the lovely bird house. It would look like he was helping the bird get into the bath !!!

For now, I put the cat sitting by one of the red chairs, but yes, he would look cute by the bird bath. Hugs.

That broomstick with the big knob on the end looks like an ammunition plunger for an old fashioned cannon. Go figure😂 The gunmen would wrap hessian around the knob to make it a tight fit to tamper down the gunpowder. Your place Joanne, is wonderful. Your projects will be fabulous. I love the bird house too.

Hi, Joanne! Love the “thrifted” pillows you found at Walmart. Good price. Your yard is really shaping up and I love your backyard! Nice view. Hope all is well with the fur babies and you! I hear the geese in the background. I love watching them fly over. Great job! Hugs!🥰👍💜🍁🍁🍁

Thank you, Sharon. I just love listening to the geese. People around the neighborhood complain about them all the time and it makes me so upset. You bought a house on a lake, what did you expect. Plus, they were here a lot longer than you were. I think those folks should be grateful for what they have instead of complaining. God could take it away in a heartbeat if He wanted to. Hugs.

Gardening is a lot of work, Joanne! I agree! Last summer I planted about 12 bushes in my new flower garden. I moved to a condo last summer. I put in 7 rose bushes. 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹! Now I need to get out there and prepare my beds for winter. Hugs, Eileen

I think you have chosen some really nice decor for the Shade garden. I love to see you excited about it. It's so fun to create. I enjoy working in my flower garden. It's in the front of my house under a window. I have frogs in it also. Whimsical and cute. I'm sure you will enjoy your garden when it's all done. If I was there I'd help you dig. Love doing that kind of stuff. The pillows are colorful . I can't wait to see it finished. I know it will take time. If you hired someone just to clean the undergrowth that's hard to do. You could just do the planting, and enjoy it so much sooner. It will be gorgeous. ❤ Kind regards Deana

Use a marine spar varnish for outdoor pieces. I have used it for 40 plus years, even on my wood doors outside. It’s pretty weather resistant.

Oh Joanne that Bird House is gorgeous. I know it’s messed up now but wow I love painting and decorating them. I know you’re going to make it just beautiful I can’t wait! You have a nice backyard it’s going to really look great when you’re done. Too bad you can’t have sone kids maybe help you clean out all that ivy it’s such a big job for just one person to do. Maybe your daughter and some of her friends can do it for you. You can order pizzas for them in return for the favor. Hugs to you. Have a great weekend ❤

Jo, I soak the ground with hose before digging holes for plants/trees. I often let it trickle overnight.

You should either rent a tiller or hire someone to come in and do it for you. It’ll save you hours of heavy labor. It’ll get up the roots of plants you’re trying to remove. Then you can get it planted very quickly. Money well spent in my opinion. I hired my yard man 13 years ago to dig up bushes and put in a two-tiered raised flower garden. He used landscape Timbers and hauled in dirt. Boy does a small garden take a lot of dirt. It was so beautiful those first years, but not so much lately with vole infestation. Also, people buy me perennials. I just put them in. They are all wrong for the space because they are mostly sunny plants and I have mostly shade. Some folks thinks plants just grow anywhere. It’s the thought that counts. I’ve had them for years. I’m hoping for little snow and cold temps this winter. Maybe they’ll be frozen out. A couple of Timbers are rotting but the flowers usually hang over the edges so you can’t see it. It’s an easy fix. What a great assortment of garden ornamentals you have. Wow. I don’t recommend painting anything white. I have some white pots and hate them. You would probably enjoy an earthy tone like brown, black or green or mottled. I just speak from personal experience and my taste. You do what you would enjoy most. I love your backyard area with the pond. It’s beautiful, Joanne. That mallet looks like it came from a butter churn or some such utensil. My solar sprinkler has extenders on at least four sides to keep it from drifting too far to one side. If yours is in the box, they may be included. If not, you could fashion some. There are probably holes in the sides of the sprinkler to insert extenders.
@batthriftcrazy1959
@batthriftcrazy1959 9 месяцев назад
I don't mind doing the work myself. It gets me a sense of accomplishment. I will have to check the sprinkler to see if it has insert extender holes. That would be great and solve my problem. Thanks. Hugs.

I love all the things for the yard! They are amazing! That thing with the cylinder at the bottom of a stick that you said Rhonda bought for a dollar reminds me of a toasted marshmallow on a stick. I wonder if you could paint it to look more like that? Thanks for the vid!!😊

Probably my favorite video!❤❤ I enjoyed every bit and can see how you are envisioning it. Those vines definitely are a lot of work to remove. Is it English Ivy? I love that you are excited about this❤😊😊
@batthriftcrazy1959
@batthriftcrazy1959 9 месяцев назад
Yes, it is English Ivy and darn that stuff goes deep. I am hoping that if I am able to keep up with pulling it out, eventually it will give up and stop growing. Hugs.

It is easier to dig holes if you wet the spot with the garden hose. It is very hard to dig holes in my yard. I rewet the hole while I am digging it. I agree with other comments…that is a big area to do by hand. That ivy will be difficult to clear.
@batthriftcrazy1959

Yes, it is a big area, but it will be so rewarding once it is all completed and to know that I did will make me feel so good. Hugs.
