tuneeeee this is a tune man i dont care u have to rock side to side to this one , tellllllllllll meeeeeeee. who ever disliked the video has no taste !!
When I was a kid I used to love this song lol Imagine my surprise when I took a look at this video as an adult and saw my boss was one of the members of Shades? Now I know why she is so bitter and unhappy. She should be happy being a part of this one hit wonder. So many people still love the song.
I thought I was imaging things that this song ever existed. I was a freshman in high school when this song came out. Ten years later and this song still sounds good.
I remember when Destiny's Child FIRST came out and my friend was like "these hoes is copying Shades" lol. Then LL did his lil remix with Total using the SAME DAMN BEAT! Even though it was better, in the 90's they rehashed SO many beats. Like Mokenstef - He's Mine, Tupac - Keep your head up, and H-town - Knockin Boots...
@thiinamaree My dad couldn't stand this song because he thought the same thing and he thought the second girl was the biggest gold digger because she ended up marrying Ray Allen but she was messing with him even when they were in college.
Noone understands how juiced (excited geek'd) I was when I found this song NO ONE lol But who recently sample this song? or Did they sample I don't know but listening to it now I know I've heard it somewhere else before but I can't put my finger on it. :(
Didn't they seem to disappear once Destiny's child hit the scene? Or am I confusing my times here? Anyhow, I used to love this song and was looking for it for a minute. Thanks for posting!!
Yes it did they got a bad wrap, and poor promotions. Who ever sampled that tracked over sold it and LL won (and rightfully so) plus he had total singing on the track and they were hot at the time.
There was a rumor that LL heard them using this sample in the studio and decided that he needed to use it too... which is why both songs ended up sounding the same.
@Jaay1000s I've been looking for this song forever too. I havent heard this song since it was out in the 90's. So glad God made a way for me to find this song.
If Destinys Child was to get back together.. THEY WOULDNT HAVE NOTHING ON Shades. Although they do sound simular..Nothin on them cus Shades were EPIC..
hello ppl if ya'll knew music so well you would know that Shades as well as LL sampled this song look it up Bernard Wright, do your HW "who do you love? girl I'm in love with u. Are you for sure? Sure as the sky is blue" lol
OMG I fuckin loved this song!!! Im with what they are saying cause nothing is worse than taking care of a sorry ass man who lied about having a job and a car so now i gotta ask.......
cmagicmixer go sit down. Those two light skinned girls put Beyonce to shame, they are PURE BEAUTY. If you can't see that you don't know what BEAUTY is. SHADES harmonizing vocals are better than the original Destiny's Child as well In My Opinion. All you hear is Beyonce in DC background vocals. SHADES is harmonizing as a group & you can't hear ONE specific person OVERWHELMING the group. You are so tired. If SHADES had the same producers & promotion DC did they would have been HUGE.
I use to feel sorry for the chubby girl..this video always cut her out or put her in the far back. She didnt wear the same sexy clothes the other three girls wore and no small solo..AND THEN I Serenade came out and HELLO!! LOL..She even has her own solo part in the song and she has a great voice AND lost a few pounds.. I still love this song though.
I actually heard this quite a while before 'Lounging' Remix came out so I assumed that Shades borrowed the sample first. After all the original of 'Lounging' used an Al B Sure sample. Or maybe 'Tell me' was played first in the UK before LL's song. I like Shades' harmonies but goodness, the message of the song is none to palatable.
So happy I finally found this song I get so hype when I find the old jams now if anybody can help me find that song by chris stokes he was in a farm with immature and this girl name Taz and the chrous was like ooo ahhh ooo let me do my thang that's all I remember so if anybody knows what i'm talking about and have that video leave me a message in the inbox thanks
I use to loooooovvvve this song when I was younger. I forgot all about them until I happen to run across this video. Thanks so muchfor the upload. Brought back a lot of memories.
@absdilsey If you are truly asking my opinion and not anticipating resistance based on my view. I think they are not particularly flattering and they are not exactly a fashionable pair of Wranglers of today's trend are they? However, this is all but a matter of opinion.
Another reason they didn't do well, also why they are almost for gotten is because that same year around the same time,L.L. Cool J. had released a song that used that same sample with Total singing the hook. So the 2 songs sounded almost identical
I'm hearing you, I'm fo sho hearing you. It used to be a big line of clean, sweet & simple & then 1 or 2 dirty songs, now it's almost all dirty songs & 1 or 2 clean songs. Feel good soul or r&b music is so hard to find these days!!
throwback for real i loved this song but i've never known who sang it ,i thought 'total' sang it to tell da truth but hay fuck it who cares love this song sameway it brings back alot of childhood memories it's all good.
ok yes, it is a gold digger anthem, yes I would admit that but what a wonderful hit, a nice throwback. I wouldnt want a man who isnt working and is a dead beat waste of time anyway. I work for my own money and he should too.
OMG, you wrote the same thing I was just thinking! I was like where total at? And I don't remember no beach front scenes! Who do you love, are you sure? was the hook. LL's version of the sampled track stuck with me more.
@SweetMissJaye i bet your boss is the one sitting behind the driver.lol actually they have another hit "seranade" it was song that i used to commincate my thoughts to women with when i was only 14 hah
Well, I only meant as far as the "golddigging" part they could've gave DC competition, but I must agree that I like the original line up of DC best. But I guess God thought otherwise:)
This song is a gold-digger's anthem, but the beat makes it impossible not to sing. Just like Mokenstef's "He's Mine." I don't agree with the lyrics, but I can't deny the beat.
and i used to sing along to dis as a kid and now im listening to da lyrics WTF my mama shouldve slapped me in da mouth for singin dis song SMH OMG my mama a gold digger!!!
U know what? I never made that correlation 'til you said somethin' , but now that I think about it, it does!! Just the female version with a lil' less bump in the bass.
They should make a new version, when their driving a red 2009 Ford drop top, and they diss a Jamaican driving a yellow2009 Lamborghini Murcielago. Whose down? lolz
You've got that right, especially the tall one that sang first. (Of course, back then I didn't realize that they completely ripped off Bernard Wright's "Who Do You Love".)
@UniqueMonique513 Yh uve got a point there , for slow jams and to kill it shades rocked it. Destinys child are good but more 2000's but yeh shades run this.
@swiley82 I remember when this song came out, then Destiny's Child and I thought they were the same group but just changed their name...I totally agree with you
Great version a lot better than LL and Total. Bernard Wright was definitely the originator. Hear that Bernard plays every Monday night at some lounge in Dallas.
I loved this song, but it came out at the same time as ll coo j lounging and destiny child, so they got no props, too bad cause I think they were good.
