It looks so good! My one complaint is that when it says "based on the worldwide bestseller" it doesn't say "by LEIGH BARDUGO". WHYYY are writers almost never credited appropriately?

Can't speak to Netflix's exact thinking here, but as somebody who put in a few years in movies: my guess would be that while LB has a massive fanbase among YA readers, she's not "household name" famous like, say, Stephen King or JKR (precious few writers are). So her name isn't a selling point to people who aren't already her fans... BUT... the tag "based on the worldwide bestseller" will make some people whose first discovery of the Grishaverse is the Netflix show go, "Oh, so there are books?" and her sales (and name) will get a huge boost. (Orbit had to do a new print run of 500K Witcher books when that show dropped.)

@@SFF180 I understand the rationalizations behind the status quo, but still think that it should become best practice to name the author in the trailer for an adaptation. No one is going to say "oh no, it's by Leigh Bardugo, then I won't watch!" since as you say, those of us who know her are already fans, so what do you have to lose by giving credit to the author?

@@mayelaar Right. Like I said, I'm not privy to their exact decision making process. On the show itself she'll be getting both a "based on the books by " credit as well as an executive producer credit.

Jesper’s WINK had me SOBBING 😭😭😭 It was such a mistake for me to watch that fan fest right before my shift started at work. I could not think of anything else for the rest of the day and I kept taking breaks to rewatch the trailer and CRY

if u want something to see his acting ability watch The Punisher on netflix. the character he plays there is lowkey a spinning image. it’s the if the darkling was younger and in our time. That show is just so good too omgosh but Ben in it 🤌🤌

I was so happy to see her. She looks exactly like she does in the books with the red hair and her white and gold kefta. I can't wait to see the scenes when she does a makeover on Alina before meeting the King. 🤩

As an Asian from Russia, seeing cast names being released made me soooooo happy and my heart warm. Considering the book series' setting is heavily inspired by the Russian culture and we see the LEAD, who small girls who never see representation in films industry, will look up to.

I haven't been this excited for an adaptation for so long either! They all look PERFECT ahhhh!!! I can feel the characters' personalities coming out of each actor already and it's so clear that everyone involved poured so much love into the show. And your reactions made the trailer even better! I can't wait to flail at every episode and watch your emotional videos.

I had this exact thought! Came here today to hype myself up before starting the show by watching Sam go through this journey, and her stamp of approval means a lot for my faith in it. I'm so happy that she is excited! I get like a second hand serotonin-boost from this video.

I totally agree. They did a great job of casting and styling these actors. We only got to see glimpses of crows but they were totally recognizable. When u look at them you just know who is who. Kaz looks exactly how I pictured him. Stern angular baby face. Someone who can look cute and aggressive at the same time.

I think my favorite part is when Alina is first going into the fold and she holds her breath like she’s going into water. That is such a survival instinct and I love it.

The only thing that I pictured different was Kaz’ cane. I pictured the crow as silver but it looks gold here. I could be misremembering. The only way they could get me to care about the darkling was by casting Ben Barnes, ugh, he looks great.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I thought Alina's power was described as white light? I have a bad memory, so sorry if I'm wrong. If it's not the case, then I think what the show is doing is having her power be white in contrast to the darkling's black shadow magic like yin/yang.

"the world exploded into blazing white light" BUT a paragraph later it also says "...tent filled with shining sunlight" lmao soooo the color is white like u said but uknow when u read a book and take some liberties? me lol i pictured it more yellow lol

When I first saw cast for it I wasn't sure about Kit playing Jesper... BUT.THAT.TRAILER... That few seconds changed everything! I love him. I love them all... and Genya - so gorgeous! And there's even Zoya! But Kaz? THAT'S PURE PERFECTION! Can't wait now! :)

I'm so excited about this!! When you watched it the first time around I noticed you not seeing Kaz en Inej and the rest of the Crows and I was so stressed about it hahaha. I'm mostly excited about the Six of Crows storyline because that was my introduction into this world (I only read Shadow and Bone after the series was announced). But it all looks so good!! I can't wait :)

I remember when I first heard the news that shadow and bone (with six of crows sprinkled in) was being made into a show. I had a bad day at work and was sitting in my car warming it up to leave and I cried tears of joy. A ray of sunshine on a dark day. And I read the trilogy after the duology and tho I don't like shadow and bone I was willing to watch it for six of crows. HOWEVER, after the trailer I'm actually looking forward to seeing it and maybe even getting emotionally invested in Alina's crew with six of crows an icing on top. 🥰🥰🥰 I can't wait for april 23rd. I'm currently reading the book and I'm enjoying it so so much. I love the world, the Shadow Fold, and the mystery behind the Darkling. I watched the trailer before I started the book but now that I'm reading it, I just love everything about the trailer. It looks so close to the book, with Mal getting attacked by the volcra and Alina saving him with her power. And even Alina meeting the Darkling. Ahh!! I'm so excited. I also really love how so many lines are taken from the book. I always love seeing that from book to movie/TV show adaptations. I haven't read Six of Crows yet but I just love how Kaz looks with the slicked-back dark hair, and the gloves and his cane. We can't forget about Inej. She looks perfect. Sorry for my long comment. I'm just so so excited. I wish I read this series sooner. It's so GOOD!! 🤩❤❤ April can't come soon enough.

Shadow & Bone honestly has the most gorgeous, lovable cast I've ever seen. So many new faces, such great representation. And the cast has literally been so lovely and close to the fans that *actually* seeing them act feels surreal. Love them all. They're gonna slay this.

I am SO excited for it! I watched the trailer last night and was blown away! I then immediately thought of you and was like, “where’s your reaction Sam!?” I think the character portrayals, just from the snippets we got, look very true to the characters, and the set designs? Truly stunning. I always had a hard time picturing the Grisha robes. Like, I always thought they were all black with rings of signifying colors on their sleeves, but this is much better and easier to tell who is who. Super excited!

Since seeing the trailer I'm on a mission to finish the books, all the books before April 23rd, I'm on Chapter 19 of seige and storm and I'm confident I'll finish everything by then... This will be the first time I've watched something after reading the books as I've now read all the GOT books after watching the show and all the HP books after watching the movies so this will be a new dynamic for me... I hope the show is as great as the excitement from the fans seems to be

Freaking obsessed with this casting holy crap. I feel like I might even grow to like Mal in this show, too. Sam I absolutely love your reaction, I was hoping you were going to do a reaction video to the teaser trailer. My own reaction was very similar. This looks even better then I ever imagined while reading both series. I can't believe it's finally here.
