Introduction to Shadow Formation Working Model
Shadows are a common occurrence in our daily lives, but understanding how they are formed involves exploring the basic principles of light and object interaction. This project investigates the fascinating process of shadow formation and how different factors influence the size and shape of shadows.
What is a Shadow?
A shadow is created when an object blocks light from a light source, casting a dark area on the surface behind the object. The shape and size of the shadow depend on the shape of the object, the position of the light source, and the distance between the object and the surface where the shadow is cast.
Key Concepts Demonstrated:
Light and Obstruction: When light encounters an object, the light is blocked, creating a shadow. The shadow's shape mirrors the outline of the object that obstructs the light.
Shadow Size and Distance: The size of the shadow changes with the distance between the object and the light source, as well as the distance between the object and the surface where the shadow is cast. Moving the object or changing the angle of the light will alter the shadow’s size and shape.
Angle of Light: The angle at which light strikes the object affects the length and direction of the shadow. For instance, a low-angle light source will create long shadows, while a high-angle light source will produce shorter shadows.
