I wish that Shadow High would go back to the darker, paler, and more muted color schemes, like what dolls like the Storm Twins, Glitch, and Karla have. I feel like that is the best happy medium for the line, honestly. I also miss the more goth and alternative clothing from past SH dolls. As for SH Series 3, Scarlet is my favorite from the line because I love her color scheme and her name. They also all look better restyled. I currently have 4/6 of them, and I'm surprised by how much I like this line and how great they are for restyles. As for the names, I feel like Rosie could have easily been named Sakura because of her unique cherry blossom theming, and Pinkie James's name is just a weird choice to me.🖤💜
Although i don't collect them i agree with u. I found the grey and black tones appealing because they were done well, it was something i've never seen before, and if they have a series called shadow high it makes sense to have the dolls represent the shades of shadows just like that did for the colors of the rainbow for the rainbow high dolls.
I agree..I loved the grey scale and pastel and themed ones soo much more..the colors can work if they kept them more punk or alternative styled..now they just look like rainbow high dolls with unnatural skin tones..I’ll still buy pink braids, rose girlie and maroon girlie on clearance and restyle them
I've recently gotten into OMG dolls, and then moved quickly onto Shadow High, which I absolutely LOVE! The greyscale is such a cool concept - I have more of them than RH.
I have been a Barbie collector and fan most of my life. Ive seen reviews and the dolls at my local store and really loved them. I found a RH Jr Kia Heart at a thrift with everything but bag and comb. Im so in love and these 3 dolls in your review are on a fantastic sale, so i am gonna give in and get them. Your review gave me the opportunity to see the actual dolls and make that decision. These new dolls have the exact kinda lazy ‘80s toy commercial names I originally expected RH to have going in. I genuinely hope someone gets fired for Pinky and Pinkly.
I want a neutral line. That way we can finally get more dolls with natural hair colors like brown. I have seen these dolls with natural hair colors and they look so much better. My favorits are Victoria and Deliah.
It's kind of strange that shadow high continues to get more series of dolls inspite of just being rainbow high dolls. Why not just continue under rainbow high dolls? Or even add to the other dolls from when they had the competition of the other schools and expand on them. Honestly think shadow high should have left itself with just the first series as it just made sense.
disagree! 1 and 2 series are gorgeous ! twins and neon shadow high are so cool and I find 3 dolls line is fine and they deserve to exist .But unfortunally SH brand is closed. I hope u are happy for that
The earlier shadow high dolls had a more mature fashionable vibe to them, kinda like seniors in high school. Now the shadow high dolls seem like freshman lol series 1, 2, and rainbow vision of shadow high are the best, but these new ones are leaving a lil too much to be desired form me, they’re too simple and colorful
I agree. They’re on sale for $14 right now. If they weren’t I wouldn’t bother. Their clothing Is getting really basic. I do appreciate the DVD skirt on the blue doll.
I've gotten 2 from this series. Berry was a birthday gift from one of my tutoring students...so sweet! I love the color. Rainbow/Shadow High are one of my favorite doll series. (The other is Monster High). Also, your hair looks great! And I love your nails.
I’m new to this toy line but I’ve been dying for some really affordable but well made dolls and RH & SH caught my eye. I bought a few of these so far and I’m honestly loving everything about these dolls. I will say though, they put so much product in their hair, I have to undress and wash their hair first thing and because they are mass produced, the ones with bangs, tend to be cut very uneven. I just try to look really well at each of the dolls at the store to pick the best one. I’m still very obsessed with the colors of the Shadow High dolls. I like them more then if they were all just gray or white.
They should of stuck with all the darker shades.. they could of made greys with blue tint.. or with green tints and blues withe green tints wpuld of been pretty. Purple with blue tint.. grey with purples. 😢
Oliver is what made me even look at Series 3. I love Berry’s clothing, but I do not like the Shirley Temple curls or her face mold. The pink one, I love her hair but hate her clothes. I prefer the cooler tones from before. With them getting cheap on extra clothes and not properly styling all of them. Will see where it goes from here.
Shadow high would’ve worked as a “project” put on by rh students. Like a Halloween themed assignment. It would better explain the unnatural skin tones. That way Mga could field test grayscale dolls without committing to an entire line. I have sh series one and I cherry pick the rest. To me, sh just doesn’t stand very well on its own conceptually. The schools focus and students ambitions differ very little from RH.
The lavender 1 is my fav in series 3. My daughter liked the pink 1 with the braids. I might get the 2 red ones and green 1 later on if I see a sale 🤞. Right now Glitch is my fav SH doll I got her for $15.99 and for some reason she won me over. 🖤🖤🖤
In the beginning of Shadow High I always had the impression that Shadow High was the anti version of Rainbow High. These people didn’t like bright rainbow colors and instead of being sweet and friendly like the core Rainbow High characters were Shadow High students can be devious and bad. But we learn some Rainbow High students can be that way too. I was thinking about Glitch for my next Shadow High doll. I know Glitch is her nickname though.
Pinkie or the gamer girl has a funny looking outfit and tbh. In my honest opinion, if she’s a gaming streamer, idk why she doesn’t come with a laptop with like a game on the screen so she can look like she’s streaming?
I like the different concept from each series but you are right it starting to give rainbow high but maybe some students are going to transfer to rainbow high in the future. But I do have to say as a guy that loves guy dolls from Rainbow high series one river to now shadow high series 3 Oliver the boy dolls have been getting BETTER and WHEN R WE GETTING A BROWN BOY DOLL!!!!
Rainbow High has really gone downhill too. It seems they are moving towards little kids as their target audience now instead of collectors. The only shadow high dolls I have are the twins. There was one Shadow High doll I wanted to get recently but I saw her in person and passed. Pinky Paige I think her name is. She comes with cute cat ear headphones and a handheld gaming device. But her bright pink hair and light pink skin clashed so much. It seems like they were going for a kawaii vibe but not sure. They should have given her different colored pastel stripes on her hair and gave her a non pink skin tone and maybe pastel colored clothing, even overalls or something. I love the stuff she comes with but don’t like how she’s designed.
I feel that they need to add colours to shadow high. I heard many times at store something like: - mom, please buy me shadow high doll - no, they look like zombies or something from graveyard. Pick something more cheerfull and cute. Is sad but consumers chooses
I think that shadow high s1 was amazing but not so much this serie.. i dont like that they dont have second outfits or shoes and the colors are just repeat of s2? I dont get it....... i do love green but not so much pink. AND give me more yellow.. 24,99?!!!!! HAHA not here..
The new series have some beautiful dolls, but I don't like all of the outfits. I'm happy to see a boy doll with long hair for once; but he still looks like a baby and still is wearing sports clothes. That's all they do for boy dolls. To me they are now the same as Rh, and all of the unique clothes/skin tones of the original SH, has gone :( I know you say that the original dolls didn't sell much, but to me the grayscale dolls, and the storm twins, etc. were more what Sh should be. I liked them much better than these dolls and they were great for those of us who like the more dark themed dolls. To me MGA just isn't giving that uniqueness a chance, and running back to dolls which are so close to RH, that there really isn't much difference any longer. I think it's sad. Yes, they are putting details into the dolls and trying to make them nice quality, but I'm not pleased and don't plan to get any of the new dolls. I want grayscale back, and more Gothic style dolls.
