Thanks for the video! Bought the Shadow Hills plugin during the sale a few weeks ago, amazing sounding compressor that is! Not sure if I actually need a "cleaner" but I version of it, might see how much the crossgrade / upgrade price is.
New red version sounds more transparent and little bit bright while old green version thick and heavy. Not sure if it's because of the transformer but I prefer new one
Yeah, you can really slam it and still have it sound nice and natural like an analog one. Even with the Nickel and highest TMT, the saturation sounds nice.
Man aquamarine is in a different league by itself it sounds more identical to the hardware not flat dry and harsh like the pa version but big wide deep 3d fat and full of harmonic just like the hw so sorry bx but acoustica audio aquamarine is better
BTW I notice you have two bettermaker units on your rack, how do you like it? Not sure if the upper one is mastering limiter, if it does, how it performs on increasing loudness compare to plugin? Thanks!
Yes. But been having issues with it as far as cpu and it crashing quite a bit with all my plugins. Gonna do a video on it soon. Cause lota you guys asking if I’m still mixing in studio one.

Hi Matt, im seeing you have one channel using optical mode and right channel using discrete.. also saw jaycen joshua doing that, is there any reason? Also one channel compress around 1db and the other barely moving. Would love to know why. Thanks!
The preset sounds dope that’s why!! Lol but ya jay uses same thing. I got part of my drum bus from Jay. I’ve modified mine quite a bit though Like I don’t use 8 nls’s etc. but no technical reason. I just usually hit it like a dB or less.

Alex, when this plugin is in stereo configuration (the knob in the center under the meters), the right side controls are inactive because settings are the same for both channels. This compressor is basically a two in one, it makes sense to monitor each compressor's gain reduction to get a clearer idea of the total gain reduction. If you used dual mono configuration, you would have to switch between the optical and discrete on each side to check. Generally, you will use less compression on an optical compressor because it is slower and can flatten the sound too much if you over compress. The Discrete (VCA) compressor is much faster, so you can use it to affect transients without pulling the overall sound down for too long. All of this is to taste, but those are some general ideas!
You can do whatever you want haha. I don’t really use bus compression that much. Except maybe ozone multiband. Most my compression happens on individual busses and tracks.
So I separate my mixes into groups. Drums & Bass/hh & perc/ music / vocals / and effects. I will compress on the individual tracks like lead vocal one. Then I will compress all the vocals together on the aux. this will and does change from some to song. However the point is by the time I get to the master channel my shits usually compressed enough.
