Shadow of Mordor Review - Worth a Buy?

Skyrim had amazing combat? I mean I loved the world and the openness, but come on Mack! Most of the combat was glitchy and stealth was almost broken!

*Spoilers* One huge complaint from me is that this game had an amazing lead up to the end battle by building an army and facing off against saurons army and to have it end with the final fight being a QTE and a cut scene!!!! Am I the only one that was offended by this?! :/

The game was made by Monolith and published by WB. Developers and publishers are different people. Devs make the game while publishers feck it up by doing stupid shyte like the copyright flagging. You cant blame Monolith for the shyte that WB is pulling, PR these days is irrevocably fkd with big companies able to pull off this bolox with impunity. But anyway, great video Mack!

Felt EXACTLY like you palying this game, hated the consoleness of the game in the beginning, but it did become truly enjoyable to play, one of the most enjoyable for quite some time, used a controller on PC

G2A.com sells these types of games for DIRT cheap, like Shadow of Mordor is just barely minimum wage. YOU CAN WORK FOR AN HOUR AND GET THIS GAME, and same with Watch_Dogs, it's typically under $5. THAT'S JUST SOME FRAPPE AT STARBUCKS. basically, just go check out g2a.com, it's 100% worth it, and I've saved hundreds.

I have this on the PS4 and after watching you play through on your recording; there is a pretty clear graphical improvement on the PC version.

Every single game with a PR department does branding. Branding basically asks them to mention certain things and not be too critical. PLAYTHOUGHS are no big deal. It only becomes conflict of interest when it deals with REVIEWS.

Hey man, The first 4 minutes of this video is the god damn best I've ever seen in a review I had to pause it I was laughing so hard I had to pause it I loved it lol.

Bought it at Friday, it's an amazing game. Finally we get that lotr game we always wanted, I actually like the story alot and the combat is awesome & not to easy. Graphic is beautiful, voiceacting flawless, they even throw in a bit of humor. Nemesis system is something I've never seen before & I love it. Buy it friends, trust me great game.

the nemesis part of the game, is worth a buy on it's own, i basically skipped the main game and just messed around with that part for hours before really playing the campaign

The biggest stress I found with this game was the Killing the Warchiefs. I hate games where they have long mini bits and bobs that you need to do in order to unlock the next mission. So to unlock this mission I need to kill 3 warchiefs but to do that I need to first find and interrogate the Captain and then kill the bodyguards who I will also need to find weaknesses for. Bullshit, I want to just kill the cunt so I can play the bloody game! That's my problem with games like Assassin's Creed, and on some missions of GTA V, they make you enjoy the game far less that when you play the actual difficult missions.

I've been playing the shit out of this game on the X1 lately, and I was kind of surprised with the issues you said you had with it. I haven't ran into enemies respawning nearby like you mentioned, and the small, quick interruptions stop appearing after the first couple of missions (they're pretty necessary for you to get a hang of the mechanics of the game in the first place anyway). Aside from the opening cutscenes, the rest of them aren't terribly long or anything. I guess the captain/warchief intros can get old, but it's not much of an impedance really. Obviously just my opinion, but yeah. Good review overall though man.

It's interesting that you can quickly tell what's made for both 360 and Xbone and what's just Xbone. Games are going to start looking a lot better once they stop releasing games that support the old consoles.

I think the games combat was really easy at first, BUT if you decide to turn off the FX on the gameplay menu the shit gets really fucking hard

Hey Mack what recording device do you use for capturing PC game footages.

Really what's your problem with the first twenty minutes of the game? They were introducing the characters and the story background, and personally i felt for talion and got emotionally involved, didn't bother me that much that the cut scenes were more than the gameplay. This is actually better than spawning you in middle of tons of enemies without knowing what are you doing or what are you killing them for. I agree with you about the combat being so simple and designed for controllers though.

Regarding the game's combat - It's not Bayonetta, but it doesn't have to be. I'll make an analogy. I used to play a lot of Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution when I lived in Columbus. We had a nice local scene. Virtua Fighter of course is an extremely deep and nuanced fighting game, and I studied it for years. But that doesn't mean I don't also enjoy a game of Street Fighter 2, which is extremely basic by comparison. That doesn't make it a bad game. The two are fun for different reasons, and it's okay to like them both. Unless we're talking about Arkham Knight. That is some serious bullshit.

Mack do you use Shadowplay to record? It's done wonders for me since it barely effects the FPS.

Just so you know, you unlock a second zone later in the game that is just as big.

Its one of the best ports I have ever played. This and Max Payne 3 are the best pc "ports" to be seen in memory. Its a fantastic game.

I enjoy this game! Easy to play with either your keyboard or gamepad. The Ultra texture pack is awesome.

What's with the elitism, how is Skyrim a PC game at heart? Is this just a term you apply to a game you deem to be good? if it only released on console, would you say that it was bad? Console exclusive can be decent as well, as can ports between pc and consoles. Skyrim's combat was not life and death, it didn't matter if you missed enemy x with your sword, he wouldn't one hit your ass life dark souls or something, it was good fun especially when you got a kill cam but it was repettive, varying foes did not require varied tactics which is something I'd hope to see in Fallout 4 and TES VI. Having said this, you are a bloody good reviewer, and I'm glad to see that you don't blow things out of proportion like IGN or Gamespot whom will say anything for the right price. Keep it up but curb your elitist side sonny! Catchya later!

What did you do worth a buy did play it on low settings. You should be able to play on very high settings.

The scenes where the bosses talk to You is need because you get ambushed from them and stuff, I agree with everything else tho

the enemy hirearchy system is very interesting but yeah if people are looking for something more than just combat they might be dissappointed

The game for me started off good but I liked it less the more I played it. I also think it takes waaaaay to long to get the dominate ability. As for the nemesis system, it's cool in theory but ehhhhh, also there is a limited amount of named enemies you can fight, so eventually the game will respawn enemies you...decapitated.

Didn't you review Arkham Knight after saying you wouldn't review another WB game? Sad really that WB even tried to do this because it really was a good game.

I don't know what was happening with your game in this footage Mack, but it was some vram texture loading issue or something. I don't use ultra textures, because they didn't even try to bother implementing them properly, and my game looks gorgeous. There are muddy textures in many areas. Ground textures can be iffy and tucked in corners you can spot some meh looking shit - but overall it is a really sexy looking game and your footage looks worse than ps4 somehow.

Got it for $7 along with Mad Max I love it. Wouldn't be happy with paying full price though.

i never thought i would write this but, even after watching this video, i was really sceptic about game, i thought it was shit, gave it a try, after playing 1-2 hours i was just shitting on this game, absolutely horrible console controls and 0 difficulty, but after playing few more hours, i've got used to controls a little bit more and i'm actually having fun, difficulty is still 0 and controls are still shit but its fun to play, cant really say its worth the full price but worth picking up on discount.

This game is just a reskinned Assassins Creed game. I can't believe you upvoted it. The nemesis system is a joke because the enemies are so easy that they all die the first time you meet them so it never even comes in to play. The only time an enemy ever survived was because he was immune to all physical attacks (melee, sneak, arrows, finishers); the only way to kill him was using the animals which I had to google.

So they copied AC's animations and Batman's combat. Then added in some unique mechanics. Sounds pretty great, but I'm not going to pick it up after hearing about the WB fiasco. I'll wait a few years from now and maybe pick it up on a steam sale.

Mack, whats this you say about Skyrim having skillful combat? From what I remember, the Skyrim combat is basically just spamming your attack button (never blocking because it's too slow and not very effective) A shitty stealth system with nearly blind enemies, and a weak selection of spells. And you say Skyrim hasn't been consolized -_-
