I remember when I first played this, dad walked in the living room with the 80 inch TV, and I could tell it blew both our minds for a big when I jumped and caught onto the wings and it lifted me into the air. My dad had not really played video games since super Nintendo so it's a BIG jump from that to feeling like you're taking down a massive flying colossus in such an organic way. Everytime I played the game he would watch, and this was one of the only ones he would prefer to watch instead of wanting to watch television. So he let me hog the TV if the game was this much fun to watch. It sucks that it has been what... 16 years? And that feeling of fighting the Colossus is still primarily in this game. Though people usually complain when a game tries to be a spiritual sequel to this beyond one or two boss fights. It's weird. I really want to play a SotC 2, regardless if the original studio makes it or not.
Here's a list of the colossi that can attack you first: Valus, Quadratus, Gaius, Phaedra, Barba, Hydrus, Kuromori, Basaran, Dirge, Celosia, Pelagia, Cenobia, Argus and Malus. Correct me if I'm wrong but avion and phalanx are the only ones who make no attempt to attack you before you attack them. I only feel sorry for avion though since phalanx was annoying to jump on three times. I feel sorry for none of those dudes, they can die.
I remember when me and my brother used to call these bosses Pokemon Legendaries. Dormina was Mewtwo as I recall, and I remember being depressed cause my brother showed me the horse falling.
I feel bad for everyone in this game the Giants and the boy neither of them get a happy ending and the girl will never have any clue what happened to bring her back
They are enchanted/cursed weapons. The only ones that can break the curse that separated the demons into colossi. He wasn't killing the colossi he was freeing the demons
I'm sad they didn't replicate it here. The most important moment of SotC to me was at the end of the last boss, did you know that if you stand up on the hand in front of its face, it holds still and just looks at you, instead of attacking you? Just that one colossus, almost human, holding its hand still to contemplate the boy, who then has to turn, while it's still peacefully watching you, and betray it with a bowshot to the shoulder. Most impactful part of the game, to me at least.
Poor Agro man, think about it He helps you get to and sometimes fight the colossi, but he has to return to the temple by himself cause the tendrils don't transfer him back and how is he at the end of the game, he falls down a fucking ravine and somehow only breaks his leg AND HAS TO REURN BACK TO THE TEMPLE FOR THE CREDITS, WITH A BROKEN LEG
Shadow of the Colossus is one of those games that I intentionally DON’T play for several years at a time. It’s so good that I just want to savor it and never get sick of it.
Alan Espinoza well yeah from that mountain shrine he's in you can see all the light pillars from there still Dirge tries to eat you and that thing is in a cave how would it see the pillars
Dis you notice that with the new sound effects, the colossi make noises that sound vaguely like the creature that they are supposed to be? That’s so cool and I never could hear that on the PS3 version
This remake is gorgeous and amazing in almost every way, but the trophy notifications feel so tacky. It pulls you out of the moment and really detracts from the most emotionally impacting parts of the game. They should have moved the triggers to after the cut scenes.
Watching you try to run/escape from the tendrils of Darkness and calling out for Eros, good cinematic choices bro.Really adds to an already good video/playthrough.
rofl I had to click back to that boss fight to watch. He was also stuck to his head for a moment just flapping around until gravity finally yoinked him off the screen. xD
I loved this game. I played through the entire thing and it is truly a masterpiece of art, fiction, battling story and love. I would consider this game to be the best of all time excluding link and the corona of time. The Colossus didn’t deserve to die in my opinion. They may have seemed bad and dangerous but we walked in their homes, attacked them and killed them. They had the complete rock guy to fight back. Malus attacked you on sight because you killed every other colossus and he was what’s left. I loved the ending and I think everyone should play it at least once.
After playing VR for a while, I began to wonder how freaking amazing this game would be if it could remaster for VR! You be looking up a lot because these colossus is huge!
If I remade this game. I would make it longer, make the monsters different from each other then looking like fur and stone, and add enemies to fight before you actually fight the monsters
When I was like a toddler, I watched my dad play this on the ps2, and I got a nostalgia rush when I saw Avion (the flying colossus) for the first time since.
Avion was the first really fun fight, at least for me. The first two were basically tutorials, Gaius was fun but kinda janky, and Phaedra was straight up annoying. Avon's fight was a breath of fresh air for me.
Y'all know how those honey butter biscuits from Church's are so fucking good that, when you're eating them, you think, "There ain't no earthly reason for anything to be this fucking delicious," and yet, there they are, being the most delicious thing you've ever put in your mouth? This is like that. The 4K remaster of "Shadow of the Colossus" is the equivalent of a box of a half dozen honey butter biscuits from Church's. It has no business being so perfectly crafted from buttermilk and bleached flour and liberally drenched in artery-hardening honey butter (a universally-recognized euphemism for "a subtle and mysterious, yet emotionally charged and intimate, story now liberally slathered with the best graphics on the market"). And yet, here it is. Being all of those things I just said.
Neko Pyro first question, have you ever played It ? And second, as cliche as this sounds.. It really is all about the journey this game came out in 2004 and for what It has to offer it was ahead of its time. The story although Very little dialogue the dialogue that is there makes you bond with the main characters. This game plays with your emotions as It unknowingly makes You build a connection with your horse, even feeling for when It dies. He challenges these Goliath’s not knowing what he has really done all in the name of the woman he loves, each colossus you kill takes a toll on your physical health, and in the end when you thought you were the good guy, you were the inherently the bad guy. Each boss is different the way you all fight is different, it’s just an amazing game it’s a must have! I still have my Ps2 copy, if you get a chance to play it , play It you won’t regret it!
23 Savage i have both played (albeit I was little and beat like 3 before losing interest) and rewatched it. But still, most of these things seem like they want to die, unless that’s what the creators were going for, it really should have been improved. No animal will just sit there and let you stab it repeatedly and only give a half-assed flail as effort. Some off them have hands they don’t even make use of. I get they’re going for the whole “gentle giant” thing, but most things fight for their survival. I get the whole journey and why, but at least make the core gameplay of the game, fighting titans, an actual fight.
FUN FACT: Dormin (which is “Nimrod” spelled backwards) may be a reference to the Biblical king Nimrod. When Dormin says “Thou have severed our body into 16 segments”, this could be referring to when Nimrod was cut up and his body scattered throughout the land, though Ueda has gone to say the similarities are coincidental.
@@Son_of_aesthetics It isn't really true. Every single colossus other than avion and phaedra will attack you on sight. They are no different to any old boss.
Wow at the end did you timed your death on Malus? because if not, god damn, that was an incredible beautiful scene, Wander collapsing on the lifeless hand of the very last colossus.
Hmm.. Yes and No. The Yes is that we are basically killing giants that are meant to seal an evil being. The No is that we are doing it for the sake of reviving the girl (i forgot her name)
I'm i the only one upset because they did not mentioned Fumito Ueda in the credits... It was like they forgot the master mind behind SOTC... If it wasnt for him, this masterpice wouldnt Even exist... No special thanks, in honor to the artist... Nothing...
it's a shame, this game it's a copy-paste from the PS2 era... the music, design level and characters are the same, they just upgrade the graphics, even they have the same shots in cinematics... and they only put ueda's name under the supervisor title... the man deserve more.
Remember,; these guys are really ancient, and clearly have a hard time moving. Not to mention they're made of mostly rock, so are likely really heavy, so they have to resort to shaking him off since he's too fast for them to grab.
To all the people saying they hate this game, without it the legend of Zelda BOTW maybe wouldn’t have had everything it did. I’m pretty sure they took the idea of making the divine beasts and some other of the bosses from this game soooo
True. Like, TELL ME SOME OF THE DIVINE BEASTS DINT LOOK VERY SIMILAR! There's the elephant/ Mammoth one, and it's resemblance is very similar to the second Colossus, and Vah Medoh looks a lot like Avion! Edit 1: I just realized Dark beast ganon also has the glyphs which take extra damage, much like this game.
I like to that years upon years after the events of the game. People stumble across this long forgotten place. They see the ruins scattered about and investigate them. They clear away the dust, the sand, the dirt and grass. That's when they notice it. Most of the ruins are humanoid in shape. Those 'islands' are a bird and an eel. Much of the stonework resembles bones. They all have faces. They aren't ruins.
You know, what i like the most about this channel is the relatibility factor. He doesnt use the most powerful weapon thats super hard to obtain, difficult combo with high skills, or any shadowy trick. Like watching a friend playing the game casually. And thats very relaxing
Such beautiful creatures. I almost think about y u should be killing them and if I really should be. My favorite was the flying sand creature with the giant sacks u would shoot with ur arrows
43:03 I still Wander (You see what I did there?) if climbing that part between Barba's shoulder and beard is as hard as the PS2 one (OG gamers will understand what I mean)
Fun fact: The order of the colossi was once different early on in development- 1. Valus 2. Quadratus 3. Phaedra 4. Basaran 5. Hydrus 6. Gaius 7. Phalanx 8. Kuromori 9. Avion 10. Celosia 11. Barba 12. Dirge 13. Pelagia 14. Cenobia 15. Argus 16. Malus
It's always sad to kill the colossi, especially at the end of a story where a woman is waking up but still trapped in a fate of her own. It is the masterpiece of the storyline and a wonderful musical arrangement in PS2 era 😭
It was one of, or maybe even the first, to introduce this kind of "boss climbing puzzle" concept. So not only was it beautifully crafted, but it was incredibly unique, and to be honest with you, it still is. I played this game as a child, and I do not regret it at all.
If you can seal a divine being (or wathever it is Dormin) by trowing a sword into a spring, then what's the point of divide it into the Colossus (beside the gameplay)? Because it was still weak or what? I like the game but until I get a good explanation of that I'll feel cheated/robbed.
I believe the sword alone wasn't capable of completely sealing Dormin at full power and it was proven to be capable of killing colossi, that is, capable of releasing Dormin. In the timeframe this game happens, you see Dormin being released but only at half power (after centuries under confinement), so throwing the sword in the spring served to both seal Dormin and leave the sword INSIDE the Forbidden Lands, now sealed too. Much like leaving a safe's key inside the safe itself. The sword was not in the Forbidden Lands prior to the game's time because the Forbidden Lands were not sealed and leaving the Ancient Sword there would be like leaving the key on a safe's keyhole, defeating its purpose, so it was taken far and away by those cultists. Wander found the Ancient Sword and the way to the Forbidden Lands, the Cultists find out the mistake and rush to reseal Dormin and destroy the bridge that leads to the Shrine of Worship and the Forbidden Lands as a whole. Dividing Dormin in 16 parts would also mean some form of firewall, as the chances of someone killing even one colossus is challenging enough, but I guess the cultists overestimated their own methods. That is just a theory, though.
I've just noticed something at 2:17:33 The way Wander falls into Malus' hand as he jumps. I don't know about anyone else, but that little moment seems so symbolic. It's almost as if, knowing the scale of what Wander has done, he's trying to jump clear of Malus, and by extension the consequences of his actions. Only for the dark matter to flow into him as he tries to escape, and he collapses into the open, dead hand of the final colossus, symbolic of how he will forever be bound to his actions. Ever since he struck that fateful pact with Dormin, Wander is now forever doomed to be in the Shadow of the Colossus. Poor ungodly soul, indeed...
Actually.... You don't faint on malus hands you can faint anywhere after the dark stuff reaches you that's were you faint. Like me i jump off after deafeating malus i got taken by the dark stuff mid air so... Wonder fainted in mid air
Fajar Sidikz I actually feel bad for them cause they look way to majestic and harmless I mean they where minding their own business not causing any harm...
they probably don't since they're individuals who are connected to one soul basically. All of them probably have some attributes of his soul which is probably where their shape is taken from i guess (i hate dormin). Pretty cool if this were the case, but otherwise i HATE the ending since Wander loved her, and she loved him.. Now she's looking after this pure kid with horns who she can never truly love cause she still loves her interpretation or perspective of who Wander was and what he was to her. Honestly i'd like it if you could've had a pacifist kind of route and for each colossus you were able to let it live somehow or else you couldve found some sort of blessing before the black things got you and it'd take a form of like some ashes or something and if you did it for every colossus then when you finish the last boss he wouldn't die and instead he'd grab you, put you on the ground and just give you some kind of blessing then sacrifice himself, and then Dormin could take form and you'd be there ready to take him down with the other guys who would've been helping you by doing insignificant damage. After all this it could end with them all travelling back with Wander holding Momo on Agro whilst crossing the bridge. Then a cutscene later with Wander going back with Agro, just watching Trico fly past above them all cut and bloody from returning the kid from the last guardian. That would be a sexy easter egg and i'd love it actually
I feel you, but the tragedy is what makes the story of this game so great. Even if a person has never played the game, the player get a sense of guilt after killing some of the colossi; mostly because you get the notion you've made a deal with the devil at the beginning. I'd like a happier end out of feeling more satisfied, but the sad ending makes it more memorable. I guess it's a sense of masochism.
