I just realized, since Consort Radahn has Mohgs body, i wonder if mohgs shackle works in that fight, if not, i think it should, it would fs help with people trying to kill him, and it would be a cool little detail
It would be a cool little secret like you could use it to stop his big comet attack in second phase by just dropping him out of the sky for a brief dps window
So the tooth whip that you get in the bonny village as well as what the spirit says it infers that shaman flesh was ripped open tend to meld together with other flesh. The hornsent did this to prisoners to create jars and used shamans as well to be and to morph the flesh of the prisoners and shaman together to cram more inside a jar. Marikas village, the shaman village, was completely razed as well by the hurnsent. You can learn this from the Minor Erdtree incantation that states that she came back to plant the minor Erdtree knowing there was no one left to heal. This event is what triggered her to seek out revenge. You can then also see that this area is directly connected to one of the finger areas. I'd say that the safest bet is after everyone in her vintage was killed, maybe she was gone, she ran off to not be killed and that's when she discovered her 2 fingers. Count Ymir stars that he believes the 2 fingers Marika found had already lost its mind by time she finds it but regardless it saw something in her and it was at that time it chose get to be an Empyrean and be the next God for the Greater Will and following was a series of events that led to the massive death of the hornsent population and her becoming a god. After this she left for the Lands Between and at some point spirited away Messmer here and i imagine this is when she planted the minor Erdtree and tasked Messmer with committing a mass genocide of the hornsent people which then through war and other ways she convinced everyone that being born with horns was actually an ill omen and completely eliminated the hornsent name and instead referred to any with similar traits as omen and so all of the omen born in the lands between, including her very own children Morgott and Mohg, to be locked under the sewers as well.
I think the biggest secret which hasn't been revealed yet is getting that Gesture at the Final Boss* I mean it has to be performed somewhere maybe in the old map, but where?! 🙃
i mean in dark souls 1 we at least got the sad sif scene.... if we get nothing but a boss run as good as its been ill get annoyed we can already keep melina alive and disconnect from the flame of frenzy and it means nothing.
Watching VaatiVidya’s recent video on Marika’s lore, I think I can kind of explain why the change from a Shaman village to the Bonny Village Basically, the Hornsent were subjugating the Shamans, torturing them, cutting them up and shoving them into the Great Jars. It would kind of imply that the Bonny Village is what happens when a Shaman Village goes through one of these purges or cleansings by the Hornsent
Which could also explain why access to Shaman Village/Hinterlands is blocked/hidden behind a secret entrance. Could be that the gesture/statues are sorta like a Shaman code to hide from the Hornsent purges?🤔
Could likely be that Marika has heritage as a shaman. She elevated herself to a god and bound Messmer to purge and burn the shadow realm, which he did until we fought him. I don't think it is a stretch that Marika wanted to get her vengeance on the Hornsent who wanted to beat her into Living jar flesh. Marika then abandoned the lands between and Messmer was bound to continue fulfilling her decree, essentially forever.
8:00 Through several NPC interactions you can get some good info that NOT ONLY were the shaman used as at least the "Core" of the Jars (The Spirit by the Whipping Hut). But that it was also seemingly a punishment for failure to become a "Living Saint" (Spirit Midway through the Belurat Gaol). The ESSENTIAL element then explaining things comes form the "Tooth Whip" which explains the unique ability the the shaman possessed which was that "the flesh of shamans was said to meld harmoniously with others". This ability was used/exploited in various ways by the Hornsent, with the lowest most usage being that of the Jars, the "Failures" (AKA MOST shaman) were seemingly en masse slaughtered and placed in the Jars, to merge their flesh withing that vessel and create "Pseudo-saints" (Assumedly what Alexander might be considered to be trying to achieve). This exploitation of her people is seemingly what drove Marika, to seek a means to overturn the rule of the Hornsent. And it seems likely that her own ability to Merge her flesh with others was used, given the presence of the Snake skin and what we learn of the Snake within Messmer from his Birth, I think in possible Marika has "Merged" with multiple entities to achieve her current Godhood, with the Snake and Messer possibly being the first merger and first child respectively.
In regards to the snake skin and its resemblance to Eiglay, a possible tie might be the Serpent Hunter. In the desciption, it says, "Thought to have been used to hunt an immortal great serpent in the distant past, it manifests a long blade of light when facing such a creature." The Great-Serpent Hunt skill, though it looks like wind, is light that deals physical damage. A connection might be in a spell in the DLC. Part of the description of the incantation, Spira, reads "summon a spiral of light that erupts at the enemy's feet." As far as I can tell, the tower priests are hornsent. The hornsent's civilization was at its peak in what we might say is the distant past. Both use light to deal physical damage. Maybe they're connected? I can see a potential link but there's so many ways the lore can be looked at so I can't be sure. All I can say is, for now at least, Serpent Hunter does not fire the long range light blasts in the Messmer fight.
I think Marika made a deal with the snake to get enough power to start her conquest. It would explain Messmer being born. And that statue of Marika embracing the snake have all been smashed. Looks like she discovered another power and would explain the soreseals much better in the lore.
I was just thinking this that she wanted to be eternal and could do so with the sakes power just like rykard wanted so maybe her head being cut off like you would do a snake makes a reference of some kind
Oooo that's a good theory. It would go well with that part in the trailer that says "the seduction and the betrayal" very similar to Eve being tempted by the serpent since there's a lot of Christian symbology in the game.
the well in bonny village is the reason moore is in ruins. Wouldn't be surprised if the hornsent started making saints of them after their settlement fell into the earth because of an overdrawn well.
We have seen a LOT from each faction besides rykard and the volcano manor. If they are around the shadow tree maybe they are the ones who took out bonny village? Could also involve why it's a ruin on top of another ruin, they were in a previous war and ran to the manor to reinforce. And in comes the tarnished.
As for the shaman village to Bonny village comparisons, the Hornsent attacked the shaman villages and cut the people up and put them into the living jars. That's why Merika hated them I'm sure
My theory is the snake is part of the gloam eyed queen. Just as mesmer has is own serpent locked away by marikas divine seal, i think melina had a similar snake, which for some reason, Marika killed and took its great rune. Maybe Melina opposed Marikas vengeful campaign and the divine order, and Marika was forced to kill her and use her greatrune to ascend to godhood.I think this is what is happening in the teaser trailer. Just wild speculation of course.
To me, at 8:22 , I know it's all "lore" based, and has something to do with the story, but the snakeskin is obviously tied to mesamir and also rykard, but like in Viking lore it is similar to Jormungandr, it exists in MULTIPLE space and times. I think it's just an easter egg and homage to Jormungandr
7:36 shocking that you didn’t seem to acknowledge what the shade says at the whipping shack cause that very much has to do with what happened in Bonny Village and the shaman.
To be clear about the sanguine noble summon, he appears if Sir Ansbach isn't availble, that is, either you didn't do his little quest, or side with Leda on her quest and Killed Ansbach on an invasion
A couple of things I've not seen anyone talk about: At the Sealing Tree which you burn with Messmer's Kindling, there appear to be the corpses of three Monumentals from Demon's Souls. They have their little lamp bowls and everything, just like the ones in the Nexus. Also, an Abductor Virgin has appeared at Redmane Castle, post-festival, in the area overlooking where the lion-beasts were. I've not got an early enough save to see if it's there in the early game. Unfortunately it doesn't take you anywhere if you let it kill you with its grab.
The shamans were marikas people, the horsent put them in the jars with other shamans to get them closer to divinity as shamans flesh melded together or something like that to create rebis’s
Regarding Rykards snake i could see that plausible as well but i believe that Rykards snake and Messmers are one in the same. I imagine Rykard always knew if Messmer just as Radahn and the others did and was aware of his birth curse but instead saw in it great power and once he learned that instead of embracing it Marika sealed it away he sought it out. Now at these m this point in time Rykard fused with the snake exists but so does Messmer and his snake as well so while i don't think they are exactly the same snake i behind Messmers snake came from this God Serpent and he was meant to be essentially his own avatar or Elden Beast but knowing it was sealed away decided to convince with Rykard still a Demi God and saw this as his chance to just become it's own avatar. Even after death it is still alive while be Tanith is eating it and Rykard states a snake never truly dies so the wriggling is that eventually after any physical death this snake will recombine back into its living form. Which i mean it is a God in itself after all.
For the bayle part, it’s a shame they turned the DLC into. Spam fest. I never noticed what most of the bosses details look like since I’m dodging constantly
I did St. Trina's quest and i get to use Thiollier and Sanguine Noble in the NPC boss fight! I also had the chance to summon Thiollier for the final boss.
The snakeskin is hard to say. My best theory regarding that is that it comes from Messmer. I imagine as Marika spirited him away to the Realm of Shadow she took her son to the villages to see what the hornsent had done and maybe it was prior to her putting the sealing rune in his eye or it was shed skin from his 2 winged snakes he had coming out of him.
You can find Yolans armor at boni gaol or what's its name...take the jar elevator down, then up again and it will take you higher where the armor is...coolest in the game
What's odd to me with the serpent is Marika and the Golden Order have a very profound hatred of snakes. We know this from the gladiator outfits descriptions as well as from some of Messmers descriptions. Marika abandoned Messmer in the Land of Shadows out of fear of his Abyssal Serpent. I can't help but wonder did the Eternal Serpent antagonize the Hornsent and end up being a reason for Marika's peoples slaughter? That would explain her profound hatred/fear of snakes.
The snake skin in Bonny village looks like the temple of eiglay snake in rykard’s legacy dungeon. My theory is that Marika/Radagon is influenced by not only the greater will but also the serpent god. Maybe the serpent god saved marika from being jarred by the Hornsent, leaving its skin behind. This could explain why both messmer and rykard have snake affinities from their shared parent/s. Curious if someone can confirm/deny this.
The shamans flesh were used to make the pot saints because their flesh was easily melded into other flesh. So they hunted the shamans to make their jar saints. Which I think is the reason Marika pushed her inquisition
I got one for you I haven't seen anyone talk about there's another form like the dragon forms but this one increases str gotta kill the lamenter or some such
The snake skin it’s probably the same as Rykards because on volcano manor in the god skin Nobel fight there is another snake skin that is identical to the one in the land of shadow and the Rykard snake
I noticed when I was fighting Bayle, that hitting him in the head would do my normal damage, only his head. And it was his leg and tail that would do a quarter or even a fifth of my normal damage. I wonder if that is sort of lore based?
@@BenderIsGreat3464 all the other big dragons, Plasidusex , etc. I didn’t have that problem with. I thought maybe it’s my build but I was running a faith bonk build.
i still want to know about the snake skin is that the god devouring snake i want to find it again TOGEThER AS A FAAAAAMMMMILIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII i would had loved seeing rykard as non snake man
Bonny village ended up like that because the shamans were put in the jars in an attempt to make a God Edit: the snake skin is from messmer who was leading the charge against the shamans
These theories are in the dark, there is tiny bits of light within these saying, but they are not the truth of the reality we live in. There is a God. There is proof to those who individually seek it, but there is a lot of misunderstanding around it. We are meant to be as God, and the only way to get there is to suffer through the misery and pain, to know joy and happiness.
I wish....That dude was a nightmare. Golden vow, flame grant me strength, black flame protection. Talismans- Shard of Alexander, dragoncrest talisman, green turtle talisman and fire scorpion talisman. Blasphemous blade. Buff up before you go in and with opaline hard tear and stamina regen in your physique. Get your mimic out and then go to town on him with the blasphemous blade skill. That's how I got him
The snake has something to do with Merika trying to protect messmer from the abyssal serpent that resided within him I'm sure. Maybe she killed the physical version of it but could not succeed in purging it from his soul or something.
