Hold on, doesn’t siding with Hornsent prevent the Ansbach invasion entirely? If I want to get all items in just two playthroughs, I should side with Leda for both of the invasions, right?

I don't have summon signs for hornset or Leda??? I played quite a bit further into the game, but didn't beat Shadow keep boss. Leda is still at Highland cross way point. She says she going to the black keep after hornset. Any ideas?

@@TheBugGuy325 I did my best to explain it clearly in the video.. but maybe I over explained. If you want to get all items in two playthroughs you need to side with Hornsent in one playthrough, and in the other playthrough you need to side with Leda both times.

At 49:20: If you turn to the left after that jump there is another small area down below with the electric slimers. A short distance ahead is a somber ancient dragon smithing stone.

If you are missing the summoning signs of Leyda and Ansbach you need to talk to Leyda first and exhaust her options. If you receive a talisman from her at this point let some in-game time pass, rest, and talk to her again. She should mention Ansbach. From this moment on you can see the summon signs.

At 18:20 for the second Iris of Occultation. on both my playthroughs I used the lift to the left down, then huged left wall until you reach the Sunken Chapel. After you rest there fast travel to the Sunken Chapel and for some reason that tree spirit you fought for the Iris just dies. Dont know if it will do it for others. It doesnt seem to work on the Bigger spirit lol. Anyways ya have a good day. Oh yeah big thank you to you Shatter we appreciate all your work!

This just happened to me. Thank God somebody else commented this. I dont remember hugging the left wall but I did rest at the grave at the bottom of the church then teleported right after. I randomly got the Iris of Occultation and got really confused. 😅

For anyone interested, 37:18 the enemies can be killed after a parry. One of them drops a talisman that increases damage after madness in the area the rest drop a crafting ingredient and I don’t think they respawn after death.

What got me through Gaius (no summon): 1. mainhand - dagger with endure 2. offhand - Albenerich staff with impenetrable thorns 3. armor and talismans - full goat. Bleed, stam recovery, great jar aresenal, and one other talisman I forget. 4. prebuffs (golden vow, regen spell) 5. Fingerprint shield for the initial charge and the meteor attack. Basically traded shots using endure (and using endure to use flasks). This boss is cracked. Only boss I've had to do this on so far.

27:12 Just to be clear, the armor set doesnt directly increase damage taken, it just has lower resistances than other armor sets in that weight range. It's not a "deal % more damage and take % more dmg" mechanic thing

Commander Gaius - as a sorc/ranged fighter - get on your horse and he's fine. Use your summon (I used dung eater). Don't fight him on foot, like I did... didn't realize you could get on your horse.... until 10 deaths in .... lol

Usually, whenever i see gaps like the one at 16:28 i think "who would fall for this old trick?" Untill i fell in that exact gap, twice, first time i went there, and in my ng+ cause i forgor 😂😂 Also, for comander Gaius, my best strategy (if you play dex/str especially) was using a weapon with good and quick dmg (like Milady) and Endure ash of war. The way you want to do it is to stay close to him, use endure, hit him 3 times, and repeat, retreating a bit to heal up when needed(use endure when healing up as well) You will absorb a huge amunt of dmg with endure, and you will not be stance broken by any of his attacks. It works every time for me.

Thank you very much for the guides, the questlines in this DLC are so easy to miss or break, and I want to experience as much as I can in this playthrough. You're awesome for doing this and it's super impressive how quickly you got these guides out while also keeping their quality intact. I do have a question about the assist Leda or assist hornsent/ansbach decision: I heard somewhere else that ignoring the summon signs is a perfectly valid option. Do you know if that's true?

That.. is a great question. I cannot confirm as I have not done that. My thought is that you would miss out on Swift Slash or the other rewards involved. You can still get through the DLC but will not be getting all unique items. I could be wrong though. I will probably try this once I have more time.

if you ignore the sign it defaults to whatever the gold one is and you miss out on the unique rewards for doing the sign.

@@ItsShatter Sorry for the late response I had to lie down cause I had a migraine. I looked into it for awhile, from what I can find ignoring the signs is a option if you want to keep most of the NPCs alive until endgame. SPOILERS Leda changes her mind about Hornsent when you take down Messmer, if you don't summon Hornsent for the Messner fight he becomes depressed and attacks you alongside Leda at the end of the game apparently. He can also apparently invade you at some point but I can't find footage of that. After she changes her mind about Hornsent Leda decides she wants to target Ansbach, this you can also ignore, but since Leda apparently goes straight to endgame anyway after all this and Ansbach has a lot of unique dialogue I think siding with him is the better option. Oh you're right however about the rewards thing. I don't believe you get any by ignoring the signs.

For anyone struggling with Gaius, I recommend a greatspear since the attacks are easier to land on him and use the ash of war piercing fang for high poise damage. and use the alexander talisman as well for high damage on the ash of war. You can also use the windy crystal tear to roll through his annoying charge attack too! it´s a bit tricky but it gives you more s to dodge that attack, and I recommend as well using the talisman crimson seed, since you will be healing more you will have more windows to attack instead of needing to heal yourself on gaius openings.

18:32 For anyone having a having difficulty with the Ulcerative Tree Spirit, Drop down on the south/west side of the roof and slowly move ,northwest. As soon as the screen starts to shake, run southeast to the elevator shaft on the left, which will take you up to the next floor. The boss will despawn back to its original location. Junp the roof top again but to the North/West side and safely range kill SPOILER: In the center of the arena looking structure, there is another Ulcerative Tree Spirit. After spawning use the same elevator trick and he will go back to the arena center. There is an up-ended row boat just to the right of the lower entrance to the elevator. The mob will try to attack you through the window but can't, but you can range through the window no problem

Tip for commander Gaius! Make sure you have a good setup for your spirit summon. When his boar does the charge attack stick closed to the corners by the fog gate, if you do it right he'll get stuck in his sprint animations for a good bit and you can wail on him, should get him in no time

I’m so confused by Hornscent/Ansbach/Leda interactions. You say to help Hornsent first and then Leda. Does she still appear at the Ansbach invasion spot if you do side with Hornscent? Not sure if I’m understand this wrong, just don’t want to do an extra run because of it lol. Btw, great job with the dlc guides, only place I’ll go for help! For Commander Gaius I used the flame art morning star +25 with the wild strikes ash of war and the winged scythe as finisher. My build is a fire/lightning confessor focusing on obviously faith and a bit of dex.

When jumping up the spirit spring that gets you the normal Ancient Dragon smithing stone you can instead go to the left and get a Somber Ancient Dragon smithing stone and then loop back and continue onward. There's also 9 larval tears you can get but only by exploring at Night time in game. Unlike the base game there doesn't seem to be any optional bosses at night time so playing at night time gives rewards with no draw backs. Also something I've learned recently, if there's an NPC summon outside the boss room as per usual it'll add HP to the boss and amplify their damage just a bit. If the NPC summon is instead inside the boss room summoning them will give you no drawbacks and only benefits. So if you're worried about making the fight harder at all, only worry about that for NPC summons outside the boss fog. Summoning Igon only helps and doesn't make Bayle any stronger. Then the main boss of Shadow Keep has 2 optional summons and both are inside the room as well. So again using them only helps you with no drawbacks. Oh and lastly what I've really been looking into lately is the interactions of Hornsent, Leda, and Ansbachs quests and their overlap. For your first playthrough I personally recommend killing Hornsent and joining Leda against him. Then later when Leda goes after Ansbach helping him defeat her. I suggest this because having Hornsent around doesn't help you late game while having Ansbach does, and Hornsents weapon is one of the best in the game if you're a Dex build. Even if you're not though removing him from the game now helps more than it hurts you. Plus for those who don't have faith in their own skills having Ansbach around helps you learn the story of the DLC more, and he's a faithful ally to the very end whom is very helpful. So unless you want his stuff early killing him off is very ill advised.
