I will go to my grave believing that Shadow was robbed of the Calypso Monarch the year he sang this song......the man wasn't even picked for the finals!!!!......the people who judge the Monarch competition always seem to get it wrong from time to time..... LONG LIVE SHADOW!!!!......LONG LIVE YOUR MUSIC!!!......there is and will always be one Mighty Shadow!!!!
R.I.P Dear Shadow. You left us an iconic memory, which we shall not soon forget. ......A true, true piece of our cultural heritage. Love you man!🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹
"Ten little children, four dumplings Mummy got to slice them thin, thin, thin A piece for a boy and a piece for a girl A piece for the neighbour daughter Merle" Those were the days when people showed real love. What ever little they had they always shared with their neighbours, especially with the children.
saw winston perform this at Rudder's concert in 96 at the JP complex in pos. He just stood and delivered, no mc at the show, music changed beat and he appeared, opened with this. Brought the house down. No fuss, just winston and the mike with the band in the back. one of the greatest shows i have ever been able to attend.
Ah poor man livin in ah teenie-weenie hut De children hungry nuttin in de pot He gone by de neighbor to beg for some rice De neighbor under pressure "boy tings eh nice" He gone by de big-shot area to beg A police put bullet in his peenie-weenie leg He gone in de courts and he loss de case De prosecutor say he have ah bandit-face. Poverty is hell Poverty is hell.
MUSIC WAS MEANT TO BE ?..........MUSIC IS UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE........INCLUDING " FILTHY SEXUAL" TOPICS.......HOW MANY CALYPSO SONGS CONTAINED HIDDEN SEXUAL MEANINGS IN THEIR LYRICS.....?.....STILL ENJOYED BY MANY......
From his 1994 classic release ‘Dingolay’ the late Winston Bailey (October 4, 1941 to October 23, 2018) also known as ‘The Mighty Shadow’ and ‘Bassman from Hell’ has been recalled to his eternal Haven in Heaven earlier today by Our Creator. Certainly Shadow’s stories will take less time to find more ears than those aired by the media last month about Philmore. For example, the song ‘Poverty is Hell’ is probably most vivid description of destitution that anyone will ever encounter. Shadow used to “stay away from school in order "to teach myself”. Perhaps Short Pants will elaborate during one of his weekend ‘Talk City’ programmes.

Hmmmm this remind me so much of my youngest days.10 children one parent trying... my mother would always use to say most of the lyrics of this song was so accurate to her life,in the 1970's because we lived not far from shadow also.hmmm happy we all are doing great now, none of us are doing crime,or lock up or prostituting.God is good to my mum u raised us well...
