In this video, we are looking at our 4th level homebrew spell Shadow Step which takes inspiration from the spells Misty Step, Absorb Elements, and Temporal Shunt.

I really like the idea, i feel like it might be a tiny bit underpowered for a 4th level. I would consider keeping the 30ft from misty step, or maybe have it be 30 ft range if the target space is "in the shadows", i think that would add to the flavor as well

Thank you for your reply! I have chatted with others on discord, and I think I agree that Shadow Step is a little underpowered. I'm thinking about editing it to be 3rd level spell instead. I will probably update it on DnDBeyond soon.

I really like this spell! It seems well balanced, and it competes well with other fourth level spells (especially since it’s a reaction, it doesn’t really need to compete in the sense of action economy, only in the sense of preparation and conserving spell slots). I made a similar feature for a subclass, although I definitely made it more complicated, so nice job simplifying it so well!

Thank you for your comment! I have been trying to make my homebrew stuff more simplified. In my first campaign as DM, I gave my players a lot of complicated stuff; and they ended up not using some of them because of that.
