I say this as a former boxer, to anyone who says shadowboxing is a waste of time.... I doubt that your boxing is of any impressive level, and you're absolutely clueless about what it takes to box effectively and impressively.
Shadow boxing is useless if you do it wrong. Like anything else. Do it right, visualize, technique, and it's one of the best things for ring craft. Period.
My coach Joey Gamache is one of the best trainers on the planet-& was a 2 division world champion himself. He has me do 4-6 rounds of shadow every single training session.
@@lulagoodwin5372 4 days a week! Today we did 2 footwork, 4 Shadow, 8 on the mitts, 3 heavy, 1 on the maize bag, & 2 on the double end bag. I am incredibly blessed & fortunate to train with him.
Shadow boxing is literally the second best way after mitt work to simulate a real fight without taking damage from sparring. You can practice every boxing move and footwork and punch without worrying about getting hit.
@gussstavo it depends on who’s holding the mitts. Good coaches use mitts to simulate actual punch exchanges whereas some mitt men just hold pads to make the fighter look flashy.
@Chente_Bui it stops u from getting use to using your body like the bag bounces your hand back shadowboxing makes u understand where your body is projecting and how to put it back
You know why the KEPP channel is so strong? It’s the COMMENT section. Because the only people that watch Coach Keppner understand the sport. I’m going to have to find the Qawi video that was mentioned. Dwight had style!
hard2hurt is all about the youtube clicks, not much else. He knows a few things, but it's all subsumed in the quest to be a "youtube e-celebrity". Meanwhile, if you're taking suggestions for videos to do, can we get some more basic partner drill videos? Thanks for bringing your knowledge and experience to the interweb, I for one am benefitting greatly from all your videos. (wow, that last sentence sounded like I am a bot lol Seriously though, your videos have helped me in my boxing quite a bit)
I think another point that should be made is that its not always a bad thing for people to goof off a little in the gym. Unless you're a pro fighter training for a fight you can give yourself some leniency and have the occasional fun goof off kind of training day & it will still help develop your skills.
for me personally, when i was a beginner i thought the same thing however my percepective changed when i sparred with other boxer. its hard to visualize when you never experience a battle.
Very true, this is where shadowing is what visualization as well as what he calls "hitting air" AKA technical shadowing. He's not dead wrong, just dead wrong on refusing to call shadowboxing one thing and only the worst version of that one thing
coach you said, "shadow boxing, most important thing besides sparring and fighting" , i think that shadow boxing is the first level of fighting, 50% is happening with your body on the fllor, 50% is happening inside the mind. Visualisation is a very hard thing to do in shadow boxing (sometimes i close my eyes to help me with that....), because without that opp visualisation it is very hard to work on rythm and timing. It gets even harder, if you take the movement component out of it and just visualize through meditation. There are levels to every skill......
He says these things to trigger dummies if you actually watch his videos it's often tongue in cheek, he's saying you should never do something while showing you a bunch of examples of it working. I think you guys need to level up your ability to read between the lines.
Gotta do more of his videos, he has so many stupid videos on his channel to cover lol. Most of which are "rage bait". He knows he will get clicks by the newbies and by the experienced. Bro has been around for years scamming all the internet warriors into believing he knows what he is talking about, or worse what's he is doing lol. Just watch him fight or spar and have a good laugh. I'm not against coaches not being the best fighters, but the things they will say will determine that. He not only sucks at fighting but a lot of what he coaches is non sense. The worst thing about these youtuber coaches with no fighting experience or real background in the things they coach, is when they get to saying, "what I would do", or "what I like to do". That's when you know for sure they are BSing. A good coach that doesn't have much fighting experience, doesn't say "what I like to do", as a way to coach people lol. That's just a scam artists way of getting people to believe that they can do the things they are trying to coach, but they know they can't. Unfortunately, the fakers always make it bigger than the real coaches on youtube. Even real fighters now a days are getting less attention than the "fake" ones.
Man that is a big big point right there! "What I like to do" Is 100% the Hallmark of someone who is very limited and not drawing upon any of their experience working with fighters.
There's way too many fitness coaches and PE teachers in boxing today, that's why boxing is at an all time low. People like him rather have boxers in the weight room or mindlessly hitting the bag than working on the fundamentals, seen it too many times.
Man mr. Keppner i have to say you have been a gem of a find , i want to become a multiple time world champion boxer and u have been an huge help ; im going to a boxing gym next month and the multi jab strategy, how to fight as a short boxer, film studys on Chavez and Quwi Muhammad etc.. were excellent keep up the good work i will vist ur gym in the future when im world champ(Jamaican). ❤🥊
Keep up the good work coach! The thing is, some titles are deceiving on purpose. He is a very competent coach too. He thought of that title to spice it up. I get a lot of sh1t for saying holding pads is no good, when it comes to muay thai, kick boxing, then I see it as a good tool, but when it comes to boxing? Its better to switch between bag, shadow, and skip rope but the pads sound good and look good on social media.
This is the same guy that took barry robinson's rhythm step concept and called it somthing else😂. I called him out on it under his shadow boxing video. He didn't like that too much 😂
Maybe if he shadowboxed more he wouldnt throw hip height jumping spin kicks at his opponents and fall flat on his face when he "competes". Just an observation.
How do i breathe when throwing 3 to 4 punch combinations? i often feel myself out of breath after throwing combos, and it's not that im not breathing, but i feel like i can be doing it better. Do you have any tips?
Run (add sprints too), jump rope, make sure you’re not clinching your fist too early, exhale with every punch, and working on punching form can help with unnecessary movement and not telegraphing your punches which makes your punching way more efficient. This is all I can think of so far, I hope this helped in some way!
Absolutely! Make sure you are not tightening up as you throw the combination or clenching your fist too soon. Also make sure your breasts are small and or I recommend also just breathing smoothly as you throw combination sometimes as well
Don't be jelly my G. It's a lot of goofies out here that wouldn't know value even if it was their name. Your channel and the information you spread is invaluable to people like myself. Ita so hard to find concise, accurate knowledge about the sport and art of pugilism. Quality over Quantity. Alot of channels do have a higher quantity of subscribers but you sir have the quality which unfortunately is often overlooked in this day and age. Top 3 boxing channel on YT eaaaassssssssssssy, trust me
He’s a lame homie. I shadow box for at least 30 mins every workout out. At least 30 min rope, and at least 30 min bag. And calisthenics and road work is a must. Off the bacc.
I have two video recommendations that I think you'd enjoy and provide a lot for you to talk about. One is from a channel called: World Class Boxing Channel The particular video is: "Every boxer must watch this video- the proper boxing stance" It's his opinion about the differences between fighters who bend at the waist to change levels versus fighters who only bend at the knees The second channel is called: Bambara Boxing The particular video is: "Middle distance | Boxing tutorial" It's an interesting breakdown of how to predict what possible attacks are available based on position in relation to your opponent.
My bad, I made a mistake. The actual video on the topic of predicting punches from the Bambara Boxing channel is called: advanced boxing defense | intro to Lane theory
Thanks for the review! I think instead of bashing shadow boxing he should’ve focused more on how to do it correctly like what he did towards the end of the video
Everything in boxing has its benefits shadowboxing teaches fluidity technique and control even when u miss u have to use more muscle and back strength to pull the punch back faster than throwing it smdh my coach put alot of time on shadowboxing he was old school and wanted us to get use to our body and how tension feels and how to get rid of it
What’s so frustrating about guys like this is that they don’t understand the concept of correlation vs causation like you always talk about. He used some creative logic to come up with argument why a person’s shadow boxing “could be a waste of time” but what these types of guys don’t realize is it’s quality over quantity. If they give 10 reasons it’s bad but there’s 1 substantial reason why it’s good, then the benefits FAR outweighs the potential negatives. But also the irony is every guy ever before sparring or a fight what do they do: shadowbox. Because our brain instinctively knows it’s the closest thing in free space to what we are ACTUALLY about to engage in 😂. So all other possible arguments aside, you should be doing it
I needed to have atleast little experience from sparing to be able to gain anything from shadowboxing, otherwise its just practicing technique, that experience of landing something on oponent, what speed and tyming you need to deliver, to gain that visual memory of someone standing infront of you and throwing techniquest on you, like “I am good in fakeing this to deliver this, so lets perfect it in shadowboxing.. for example me before I spar I was trying to overspeed my own shadow, my mind works kind of “eh you to slow, he sliped everything and smashed you” I cannot get satisfaction from it unless I know I can land something in sparing and then translate it into shadowbox.. right now I havent spar already 2 months and I cannot realy shadowbox, ai am losing that memory of oponent..
Thanks for the comment! Again. There are a couple versions of Shadow Boxing and different nuances with it. If you aren't shadow boxing, what type of work are you doing?
Icy Mike is right. Most people are not getting one to one coaching. large classes with over twenty people, one coach cannot keep on eye on all the students. People with different levels of skill and fitness.
The coach can't keep an eye on every one at once, but he can go up to each person during the round to see how they're doing, and then he can stop and provide instruction.
@@coachKeithKeppner let's be honest here. R we talking about one on one caching of group classes? People make these videos every single student is receiving non stop one on one coaching, when most classes are full of students, with students struggling, not everyone can master listening skills as well as yelling skills.
@@D00Rb3LL I understand but that is not realistic, if someone is struggling then they need to be reminded a thousand times to learn. not everyone is talented. Also one on coached guys tend to have better skill, but also sometimes they tend to not like regular training.
mike always tries to rage-bait with his videos to get more views. i understand it, even though i don't like it that much. i think in general what he is trying to say is correct, especially if you go to the average boxing gym closest to you. in my personal opinion and mind you i'm just a noob so my opinion might not mean much, shadowboxing is a good thing, even if you don't do it perfectly, even if it's just you having some fun punching air and moving around.
Hahahaha it's all in good fun and I was goofing on his whole "shadow boxing is a waste of time" but buy Shane's Shadowboxing course lol. I didn't say my level 2 is a waste of time, but buy my level 2 lol thanks for the comment!
only the syth lords and bad coaches think, talk and act in absolutes......one thing the guy is good at, triggering a desired reaction by provoking, which im sure has lead him to commercial success. Thats honestly good for him, if thats his primary goal. So no hating, only some grinning
What a donut. Yes, shadow boxing is garbage? What nonsense. I’ve seen this guy so many times on YT. He loves himself. Good work once again Kepp. Your follower count will skyrocket. Classic boxers, classic trainers! Go watch Hopkins shadow box. Then tell me it’s garbage!
Yeah that is how you grow on RU-vid my guy clickbait titles are the way then jus put your amazing info as the actual video and you'll get loads of views not how this guy does it
I will defend Mike here, i had been in like 6 gyms and even good coaches with amatour medalists or pro fighters DONT EXPLAIN what shadow boxing is to avarge Joe Smoe, often times he can throw wild hook from underground and they wont say nothin is all good as long as he pays 1st of the month :D Only twice i saw coaches taking newbs aside and teaching how to even move :D You not decent arleady and dont wanna compete? Sorry coach wont have enough time to work with you and prep guys who compete at the same time
Hard2Hurt, or Icy Mike, is anything but a below average coach and instructor and a grifting shill! It's a compliment to even call him one when some videos and some takes he had is so based and cringe. He hasn't even fought in bare knuckles fighting, or MMA, or even boxing officially or even hard spared. He's only some past cop which he retired from. Saying shadow boxing is a waste of time from someone who fights little and mostly talks out of thin air is absurd! Danthewolfman and S.Carmen from Ummah Fight Camp is right about people like this, just saying stuff to pander to young suburbia cultured people who sit comfy in their homes thinking Icy Mike, Jesse Encamp, The Martial Arts Journey guy called Roshka, Ramsay, and these other popular white YT Channels that feed off of impressionable young guys are UTTERLY ASININE!
Icy Mike has competed in full contact fighting, not boxing but actual fighting with kicks, knees, elbows abd grappling. He was also a S.W.A.T. cop, he's not talking out his ass. He knows his shit it's just his persona to be a bit of a heel and to say antagonistic controversial things to get attention. He knows how to succeed on RU-vid
@@liammullen2144 Yeah he knows, lime Jesse Encamp, Roksha, Ramsay, and other YT personalities how to appeal to young white male suburban people. I'll give him that, but IMHO he ain't a real fighter.
The criticism of his content is that it is clickbait semantics. He does coach Muay Thai, and has competed in MMA and Muay Thai. I don't like his content but to call him not a real fighter is ridiculous. @@danielnelson3136
