HE HAD RED HAIR. Just wanted to say that. He died as Clary’s brother and not the monster that Valentine had made him. I don’t watch the show but I have read the books. This scene made me cry
I cried in the book when his eyes turned green and he said he never felt so light it was one of the saddest things I've ever read besides the epilogue of clockwork princess
When his hair turns ginger I believe it symbolises that without the evil he could’ve been good like Clary, what’s heartbreaking is when he and Clary hugged and he didn’t fight back
A brother that was even more of an unnatural mess that the runes Clary created, and all of that was the fault of their crazy father that made the weird experiments in the first place but the angels were like no, let's punish Clary, she messed up with our precious runes
I like clary but. I can face the fact that she was going to abuse her runes. the angels more often indicated that she should not force her runes if the angels did not want that. anyway she did it and I know she did it out of goodness but it didn't end that well. when she used her necromancy rune on valentine I also noticed that she was really going the wrong way. As Still I like her and if I were her I would also give up my identity to save him.

@@Name-gt7lf It wasn't the hug that killed him it was the runes. Clary has the powers of the angles so it actually does make sense. She said in the interview it took away all of his demon blood which he can't live without. You could see his hair turning back. I do think they could have been more clear though. This is no hate towards you. I just wanted to explain it
"His eyes were green"~ City of Heavenly Fire has the exact same effect as Jonathans hair turning red in the show. It shows that it really was the demon blood that made him a psychotic and evil person. By burning away the demon blood he is a good person and just like clary. That's why in the book he said that he felt so light after his demon blood was burned away by the heavenly fire.
I think here everyone misunderstands how devastating and broken Clary is. That's her brother. Her family. She had to take away his life to save him. The demon blood from Lilith did so much damage and while she was warned not to draw anther rune again she had to. She had to save her brother from himself. Raziel is just acting like a child because she could make her own runes without his blessing.

@@erikagalvan8426 they had to wrap things up very quickly due to the show being cancelled. It was said there could have been a good few more seasons. Although in a way if you think about it, if someone where to pick the show back up then there is the whole her gaining her memories back and then her gaining her ability too.
"Let me go." "I am." is the most powerful exchange of words to be had. It hit me so hard. And although they had to rush this because they were cancelled, this didn't feel any less powerful. When she talked about how they did share a childhood, even just subconsciously, that made him being her brother even more real to me and the loss even bigger.

In city of heavenly fire, Jonathan's death was so heartbreaking because they actually managed to get rid of his evil - so the real Jonathan Morgenstern was revealed. It was so beautiful that he got to see his mother and clary before he died 😢 Even though the show is completely different, it was just as beautiful 💜
They managed to capture the same essence which is why I completely loved the finale bc plot points were changed but in the end it gave the same feeling so I am completely satisfied.

This scene broke me. It was written so well, Jonathan is my favourite despite the fact he was a villain. I hated him in the books but right at the end... He made me love him. Luke Baines was amazing. #SaveShadowhunters
Jonathan was the last of her biological family😢. Although she has her friends, Luke , Jace and all, watching/knowing that the last blood family member die is very sad. Same thing with Clary. I feel so sad for her😢😢😢😢
I have this theory/wish, that Jonathan was reborn as an angel after his death and is now living up there with his mother Jocelyn, looking after his younger sister. That after all, he has always been a victim of circumstance that was never given a chance and that he is in fact a good human. I think this would be beautiful!
@Diana I agree, I think Jonathan is one of the best villains of all time. Not because he is super evil or kills many people but because he shows us not to judge people at first sight. Man, I'll miss that show so much. It gives us so many role models and modern statements we should entrench in our society!

This scene is just so beautifully written. From the way they talk with each other and her finally telling him what he wanted to hear all the time, that someone really loves him to her hugging him with her wings. I cried so much during this scene, to me it doesn’t really feel like she’s killing him, feels more like saving him from himself, because he can‘t do it, but it’s what he so desperately wants. To be saved and loved...it’s like Clary is his guardian angel and I really love that!
Possibly the best written/acted scene of the entire show (though there are many fabulous scenes). The part that always gets me is when Jonathan says "Let me go" and Clary replies with "I am," as she gently lowers him to the ground. Because that's what she's doing. She's letting go of the brother she wanted so badly, the last of her blood family, in order to save the world AND him. Because she knows it's too late to save him from his own darkness. It's so beautiful and tragic at the same time!
This honestly broke my heart. I was against Jonathan, obviously. But I can understand him. I love the fact the show didn't just label him as absolutely evil. All he ever wanted was love, he was tortured from birth. Its perfect.
Jonathan was one of my favourite movie villains. So full of devastating feelings, yet so eager for love and acceptance. And huge chapeau bas for an actor, he portrayed Jonathan reliably and movingly. That's the moment when I have to farewell exciting character, but I know the end is so on point.
Omg why? 😭❤️ Why is she loosing her runes after killing her brother, that's not fair. She is the only one who can kill him and the angels are doing that, whyy? 😭😭❤️
originally (in the books) clary kills him with the sword of heavenly fire but in here she embraced him to death which shows more emotion and feeling. both of them were sad in my opinion, but this was a better death
OOF THIS SCENE GETS ME SO GOOD phenomenal acting & the imagery of Clary with angel wings is just so appropriately beautiful - killing with kindness, literally the epitome of her as a character! Just so beautiful in every way.
I loved jonathan so much. he was one of my comfort characters and i cried so hard when he died. I just wanted to see him have the chance to live a normal life with clary and find real love whether it's romantic or family

I knew that Jonathan's good even though he had a demon blood. He's always longing for that love that he ever wanted but Lilith always told him that no one loves him.
This made my cry so much.Clary said so many sad stuff and then betrayed Jonathan buy killing him when he accepted her apology.Clary just ended him.It was a sad part i cried here till the end of the ep.It was bitter-sweet 😵😩😰
Believe me it was also Really embarrassing for clary. I know that Jonathan is not completely bad because of his past and All. but clary has Still the worst. even though she knew what she will lose if she drew a new rune. she did it anyway to protect everyone and also Jonathan himself.if he were there longer and would continue to kill. Then he will probably never see light in the hereafter so better now than later.

Kat and Luke are the best! The acting is incredible! A really heartbreaking scene, even though Jonathan was a villain. Such a shame the show was canceled just like that! Shame!
one thing about me: i barely cry at TV shows. at movies sometimes, but not at shows. i get incredibly invested but i almost never *actually cry* . and this made me tear up SO BAD. everything about this is tragedy and s o w e l l w r i t t e n . . . . ! ! !
I just finish watching the series and this part made me cry. If you will look deeper there's a lot of lessons from this series and I dont think I cant get over with it , not now . I cant huhu.
I want to see a sequel to Shadowhunters in film version, and Clary taking her rightful place as an angel, because if I have seen something, it is that she is a true angel, guide and protect, never punish or destroy
Jonathan is so unlike any other evil characters in other ya novels. All he craves for is love, which retains him on the good side instead of turning totally evil. In the end, he still loves his sister, the only true family he’s got but never truly experienced. I haven’t read the books yet but from the show it seems there are really deep profound meanings the author wants to convey. I love Jonathan anw.
Clary didn't deserve what the angels did to her. She killed her only remaining family member to save the world using a power they gave her and they punished her for it.
She literally gave up EVERYTHING in this scene -her love -1/2 her family -her birth right -BASICALLY her entire life that she just recently learned about,accepted and learned to love..... It's really petty of the Angels......sad ending tho.....💞💞💯💯 #shadowhuntersforlife.....
For a while it felt unfair that clary seemed to be the sole one punished and for doing the one thing that saved everyone until i thought of it in another way. Many of the shadowhunters broke rules but the rules broken were ones that could be rightly punished by their own kind, the only one who could do with some angelic punishment would be the father. Remember clarys punishment wasn't permanent, she was just essentially put in shadowhunter timeout for breaking the rules.
This scene was just epic! He deserved to have such a beautiful death in his sister's arms.. i cry everytime i see it 😢😢😢😢 ave atque vale! She did the right thing and she lost her runes. I hope the channel to decide to continue the serie... All the actors were amazing (Sorry for my English)
This was the scene where I totally broke down and cried during the whole episode... It‘s beautiful. It‘s so sad, but goddamn this scene is beautiful heartbreaking... I actually felt so so bad for Jonathan. He was so vulnerable at that moment...
god, clary's one of the saddest, most tortured, trauma-experienced heroines of all time.. the kind of things she went through *alone* (because yes, she was alone, you can have friends and people who are like family to you but it never replaces, nor ever feels like your 'true home' like your parents/siblings/grandparents/aunts and stuff, everyone needs to feel like they have somewhere to belong) losing her mother, having an evil father and brother, whom she both had to kill *herself...* such tragedies.
I know Jonathan was bed but this scene made me cry non stop. the way she let him go was so kind, thoughtful... It was perfect how the last thing she showed him was that she loved him no matter what, that he'll be in her heart forever*. When you're just sacrifice your own brother and yourself just to save others. It only shows that Love is sacrifice. Clary just love his brother but he can't help it, he just have to ignore the love and the pain it takes.
I think Clary didn’t deserve losing her runes she literally saved the whole fucking world and just because she don’t wanted to die because she knew she can safe the shadow hunters they do this to her when I was watching last episode for the first time I was screaming and crying into my pillow until it was that much wet that I needed to get on a sun to dry it and when I saw it second time it was much worse there I was crying into 2 pillows and my mom came to me worried because she did it know what happened she didn’t know why I’m crying so much And one more thing why they left there an open end like 🚨 SPOILER ALERT 🚨 Jace came to her she saw him even if he have his covering rune and she even saw the runes and remembered his name like I want another season that was an big open end and that piss me off very very much
I cried like a baby in this scene and I couldn't stop myself to the end. I just cried. My sister was trying to shut me up because it was midnight and my mom came in and she was like wHaT ThE HelL Is HapPENiNg HEre? And she went back to sleeping. Yeah that's the story.
I know her mom came to her and told her she had to stop using her rune's because the angel's didn't approve of it. but why when she drew this rune there was no resistance like when she drew the rune on Valentine or the one when she connected there power's so they could go to edom so she shouldn't have lost her runes
Maybe the angels were angry when she drew runes against the resistance and even though there wasn't any when she drew it in this scene, the angels were salty that she still uses the runes even her mother told her not to? Idk
Her mum warned her that if she drew any of her runes at all she would lose everything. So they didnt care if it was one of the runes they gave her(like the sunlight or angelic light) or one she made but wasnt "bad" or a rune they didnt aprove
😢 what would have made it even more heartbreaking is if he said ‘I feel so light’ right before he dies and his eyes turn green cause she burned away all of his demon taint
Both the book and show scenes are so powerful and heartbreaking…the fact that Jonathan died being himself, someone who could have loved and laugh and…be good, its so sad that he never got the chance to be himself until right before he died! 💔😢😢
