Uther's soul (thanks to the Light) split into 2 parts. The first (merciful) went to Frostmourne, and the second (wanting justice) to Shadowlands. After defeating the Lich King, the First Part forgave Arthas and stayed on Azeroth, and what happened to the Second Part you just saw. Edit: Oh, I almost forgot. Only the First Part knows that Arthas (as LK) was keeping the Scourge from destroying Azertoth. Normally, Arthas would be brought before an Arbitrator after his death, who would decide his fate (most likely to Revendreth where he would repent for his actions). Instead, Uther stole his soul and threw him without judgment into The Maw, where Arthas would suffer for eternity. This makes Uther's act REVENGE, not JUSTICE.

I think it's also worth considering that Devos was probably questioning The Path long before Uther showed up in Bastion. Notice that during her speech to the Archon, she goes straight from how the power of the Maw is in mortal hands and how terrible that is... to proclaiming that The Path is flawed, when The Path has basically nothing whatsoever to do with this situation. She claims that if Uther's mortal memories had been purged, then they'd never know of the danger. But that's missing the point: his memories *couldn't* be purged because of his wounded soul. Now, for the sake of argument, maybe The Path *is* flawed. But Uther's experience isn't proof of that. To make matters worse, she then ascends Uther - who is still grievously wounded and clearly not ready for ascension! - and goads him into taking vengeance against Arthas by casting him directly into the Maw, do not pass Go, do not collect $200. I wonder if the other half of Uther's soul, the part that was claimed by Frostmourne, is now wandering around the Shadowlands somewhere...
The Arthas story is maybe the most accessible of all. It's not too off and not too cliché. In all honesty, the "Fall of Arthas/Lordearon" would have made a goddamn good movie. In addition, it still is awesome how important Arthas still is.
It’s later in game where Uther talks how he regrets sending Arthas down in Maw, saying it wasn’t justice as it was vengeance that consumed him. As Uther talks about how Arthas didn’t deserve such punishment when it wasnt his fault being controlled.
Arthus has always been my favorite character in warcraft. I got into WC back in wc3 and just loved his story and I also have the book about him. I'm also a huge Star Wars fan and I always compare Arthus to Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. He kind of has a similar story and fall to darkness but unlike Anakin who's trying to save Padme from dying. He's trying to keep the citizens in his kingdom from being wiped out by a plague and is slowly corrupted throughout the journey by the people who are behind the plague just like the Emperor slowly corrupted Anakin and turned him against the Jedi.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Arthas thirst for vengeance and justice, led to a dark path. The irony is that this part of Uthers soul seem to follow that same path, which is foreboding to say the least... The people in Bastion seem to represent to typical angel justice, blindly following ancient rules deemed the path. No one questions the laws, which leads to the hubris that make them turn a blind eye to injustice. This is the same story as with the Jedi and their fall in Star Wars. Lawful good entities often become lawful blind...
On one hand, you could argue that if he'd been allowed to go before the Arbiter and been judged, he might well have been sent to the Maw anyway due to the amount of people he killed/turned undead, but what Uther (at least the angry, betrayed part of him that seemed frozen at the moment of his death...whereas the part of his soul that went into Frostmourne seemed to be his noble, more forgiving half that chose to remember Arthas as the young paladin he'd been, not the monster he became) did was allow his feelings of betrayal and anger over-rule his better instincts (and even then, you see that moment of hesitation and regret when he's holding Arthas, and Devos just goads him on (ironically like the old adage of having a devil on your shoulder, only a literal angel in this case). Now, I suppose it depends on how much blame you choose to place on Arthas. He was severely flawed...he allowed his arrogance and pride (which later became an obsession for revenge) to lead him down a dark path. He knew Frostmourne was cursed when he chose to take it up but he did so anyway. We were told in questing in Wrath that Arthas was just a presence in the Lich King's mind that we're also told that it was that tiny shred of humanity left in him that caused him to hold the Scourge back from sweeping over the world. Maybe, since Kael'thas was sent to Revendreth, you could make a case that Arthas might've been sent there too if he'd been allowed to be judged since that's literally a soul's last chance at redemption before being sent on to the Maw.
the Main concern with all this is not only that uther took his "vengance" but he did it without any judgement of the great archon who is supposed to be weather he is worthy of the maw or not.. they just took justice on themselves

Blizzard: All mortal creatures from the entire universe go to the Shadowlands. All mortal races that have ever lived. There is also not only 4 covenants, but countless of them. Shadowlands is another plane of existence. Also I am pretty sure, that by his actions here, Uther broke the system. Usually, when someone comes into the Shadowlands, they are put in front of the Arbiter, who judges their soul and assigns them to a covenant. But here, Uther took Arthas out of that system and threw him into the Maw directly. Pretty sure that is what started the collapse and eventually why the Arbiter shut down.

Feels like they're doing Uther dirty though... He was never that hasty. Ye he showed signs of having a hard time forgiving Arthas, but would he really judge him to eternal damnation, without knowimg the how's and why's? Fishy.
I really do think that as bad as Lich King (Arthas) was under the influence of the helm and sword,even he deserved to be judged by the Arbiter like everyone else,and because of Uther dropping him into the Maw before him being judged,i have a feeling we will be going in there to bring Arthas out of the Maw,so he can be judged properly like every other soul
What you don't understand is that this was planned. Since the Fall of Titan Argus, His soul went into the Shadowlands and is the reason why the 2nd Arbiter malfunctioned! Every soul since that event has been GOING INTO THE MAW!!! This empowered Zovaal (The Jailer) for each death that was occurring in the real world, Zovaal grew stronger. This is why Bov...I cannot remember his name (I could care less wither lol) lost to Sylvanas in the Shadowlands trailer for she was also getting empowered by him as well. 6:33 is showing you that the MAW was expanding in plain sight.....
How did Uther fail Arthas lmao, As much as i love Arthas you can't blame anyone but him. He was arrogant and hotheaded and is the reason for his downfall
@@derenter3303 I dont blame Uther for doing it, but its true that he abandoned Arthas during his darkest hour. Jaina and Uther couldve talked some sense into him and prevented Arthas from traveling into an obvious trap.
@@derenter3303 I would rather argue that he was young, naive and idealistic, not really ready to be king nor fully initiated as a paladin - He lacked wisdom and patience. His choices was his own of course, but they were a product of his youth and strong sympathy towards his Kingdom and people - You could argue his reasons were noble, but his methods ended up being his downfall. Maybe if he had been a bit older as the events of Warcraft III took place, the outcome might have been different. Uther was powerless, as stated within the game, Arthas as the heir to the throne had legal authority over Uther, so to take up arms against a prince would be treason. Now you could argue that, as a servant of The Light, Uther only really answers to his peers and his conscious. But I think that is exactly why he didn't try to stop Arthas before it was too late.
@@demmerfreak tbf, I feel like Uther was a respected enough paladin that he could have momentarily arrested Arthas and sent word to Terenas, and he wouldn't have suffered serious consequences. Prince or not, Uther was his superior on the job.
So this trailer was absolutly epic because it finally answeared the question of what happens to the souls consummed by The Frostmourne. And Uthers soul was not split because of the light, well.. not completly, but because Frostmourne doesnt take the full soul, it splits it in half! It is done this way to preserve the balance within the Shadow Lands so that the Jailer could escape thru the Armor of Domination! So what happend to Uther is heavily implied to have happend to Sylvannas! Which would explain Sylvannases sudden madness! Part of her soul remained in The Maw and the other returned to Azeroth after making the deal with The Jailer! So every soul consumed by the Frostmourne is currently IN The Maw! Uthers, Arthases Fathers every1s! So what will most likely happen in the future is that we will have to go deep into the Maw to save Uthers soul to make him whole again. And HOPEFULLY! In doing so, save Arthas! One thing that I am curiouse about is that since Arthas was pretty much the vessel for the power of The Maw, doesnt that mean that Uther just threw him into his power source? I mean he was the chosen one to wear the Crown of The Lich King (Helm of Domination) so would he be a good tool for the Jailer? Or maybe a vessel for him to finally escape The Maw??
It was all fault of Uther and Jaina because they left him ... shame on them !!! :o and btw I'm not fun of Arthas but he did all bad stuff when he was like pupet unable do what he really wanna ... if they did not left Arthas when he needs them most then nothing like this could happend ... BURN UTHER and save Arthas soul !!! >:D
