My middle school band played Escape from the Deep by Brian Balmages. I loved it so much I went looking for more songs composed by him. Came across Moscow, 1941. Then, Into the Arctic. But now, I've finally discovered Balmages's greatest piece: this.
As a trombone player I indeed think it is biased to say the trombone part is the best but good god! It feels good to just blast out the music like a war horn!
When the clarinets play the main riff, its fantastic, but when the trumpets are about to come in with it, the orchestras like, ITS ABOUT TO GET DOWN,. great song, mad respect for the writer.
Oh that last note missing is EXTREMELY noticeable. I was wondering what everyone was talking about. It sounds like the song just got cut off. On the bright side, this sounds like it'd be really good for looping.
Natassha Coronel trumpet players everywhere seem to be absolutely mental I would hope your not but I doubt it pleas be nice to the normal person in the section
I was searching Brian Balmages because we’ve played a couple of his pieces, and I played this in middle school honor band last year without even realizing it was by him. It was my favorite piece of the show.
We don’t have anyone assigned piano and I’m a percussionist. I got assigned the bells part that does literally nothing so I’m ditching percussion for this song to play piano.
Ethan Urias our band director said he wants 1st and 2nd chair trombone to play the solo and I’m 1st trombone and 2nd chair hasn’t been at school in a while so I’m screwed😬😑
Darn this was a fun piece but this year our main big song (this was last year's for the concert) is The Great Locomotive Chase so they're both really cool
Y’all this is a piece of music that has never before felt so rewarding. We got a new band director my 6th grade year, straight out of college. Y’all by my 7th grade year a BRAND NEW BEGINNING BAND went to CPA and played this piece (and a few more) and we beat everyone there. We went a music festival in Tennessee (which is out of state for us) and we beat 6 high school bands. We placed first out of everyone. Y’all when our band got on the bus with the trophy I never felt so happy in my life, and I struggled the most with this piece. And it turned out to be my favorite. But I thought that we would never learn another piece of music that year bc of how many times we played the same section over and over and over and over. And this was our strongest piece, just listening to this I don’t even have to look at it, we played it so much I can’t visualize the piece of paper in my head. Least to say is this piece of music will always have a special place in my heart❤
It’s pretty easy once you get the hang of it I played this in seventh grade and we had to learn this song under a week because our concert was next week... with practice it’s all covered buddy!
So where are the fellow oboist Also my band class is gonna be playing this for something Idk what we will be playing for with covid and everything but we’re still learning it and we all love the fluffing heck out of this song.
