I agree. Nothing shady here. Weird and disfunctional, perhaps, but not shady. In fact, in all his quotes in this hatchet job, he is jaw-droppingly honest about his own shortcomings and doesn't have anything bad to say about his ex's, which is classier than those ex's.
I dated a comedian for a very deep, dark three months. It was terribly heavy but I did get a few chuckles out of it and some of the deepest conversation of my life.
Wow, what a bullshit character assanination. So what, he is an introvert? He has problems with intimacy and copes by reverting to comedy / career / personal hobbies? Wow, what a horrible person. It sounds like he was upfront with these people it wasn't working out with. They felt shunned / hurt, it is natural, it happens, that is life. People shouldn't be picked apart for being different and not fitting in... It makes for great artistry.
i agree with most of what you say but he was clear that he wasn't upfront with the women he had relationships with. He instead withdrew into his hobbies and let the relationships die. That doesn't make him a terrible person, but he's not someone that should be in serious relationships.
Those are NOT traits of an introvert. I agree with the rest of your comments, but that is not what introversion is about. introverts often understand themselves very well and have really good relationships with fewer people compared to extroverts.

Well, it's nice when all your "shady sh!t" is stuff you personally own up to and discuss in public places. Maybe Fred is just a person who hasn't figured out how to make everyone on the planet of Earth happy yet, just like everyone else on the planet of Earth.

Vincent Priceless Agree. She's a great actress and I love her work in Handmaid's Tale but she's very very weird too. I can't believe she did that show when she's part of a real cult.
this video is butthurt. Ugh. i clicked on this specificaly because I knew id learn a little bit more about Fred. And I did, now I like him even more since hes being shown to be human like most of us.
So, too sum it up, he's a human being with his average share of personal issues and a certain city in the U.S. is experiencing what every other normal city is experiencing and the locals are unhappy about it and looking for someone to blame.
Fred was in line behind me @ Jackson's Gas sttn on Grand /Broadway in Portland a few weeks ago...lol id held the door open after I went in as I naturally do but habit and after he stood behind me mybrain made the connection. I couldn't help trying to turn around slowly, " as to not be seen so obviously and absurdly turning around? " . I looked at fred n was like "yeah that's Fred " Fred looked at me n was like "Thank you for not asking me for a fucking autograph at 8a.m" It was a very brief and beautifully rhetorical human exchange.

Yeah, when I saw Portlandia and "put a bird on it" I immediately moved there. Previously I'd lived in Philadelphia because of Sunny and NY before that because of Friends. I relocate a lot based on whatever sitcom I'm watching at the time.
So, let me get this strait, the guy is honest and open about his difficulty with intimacy, which he clearly sees as a hindrance to happiness...and he’s “shady”? Maybe he’s just a flawed human being(hint:we all are), and he’s trying to figure it out. The makers of this video are assholes.
He's not really wrong though, waves of yuppies moving into a "trending" or "trendy" neighborhood, gentrifying it, and subsequently pricing the former residents out of their homes is not something new, and has been documented in many cities.

Yeah that quote was too tendentious to be considered seriously. Portlandia's can be called many adjectives, but "insipid" ain't one of them. There's never been a show like it and even people who don't like it will admit it's creative and different. Portland's always had a reputation as being a very quirky city with probably the highest concentration counter-culture, bohemian types. I've heard that the city has changed for the worst the last decade, and Portlandia showcasing it no doubt did encourage some of the typically young adults who are drawn to that sort of thing to think "that's the place for me", but the same thing has happened to places like Brooklyn, SF, Austin, Greenville S.C. What are they supposed to do, keep it a secret? The wildly eccentric denizens of Portland are ripe subjects for lampooning. And is Portland really being swarmed by "technocratic hordes"? If a "technocrat" or ambitious, skilled professional is moving to the west coast they're going to Seattle or Bay Area, the types moving to Portland are mostly children in adult bodies with no career plan who are fine couch surfing for the rest of their lives.

Nova Darling I agree but I do have to say that Portland truly isn't the same, but that stems from a LOT more issues than Portlandia. People who are native to Portland should be allowed to complain about such an unwarranted change in their hometown, it sucks
I'm not saying no one has a right to complain, and I completely see where you're coming from! I guess I just feel like it's pretty well documented what happens when a location is specific. And it costs money to film in a place. They couldn't just show up and start filming there. So permission was given, money exchanged hands, it seems unfair to place that much blame when in some degree you have to know what you're getting into.
Nova Darling that and generally people are leaving California to Oregon and Washington because of raising rents and homes here. No one wants to to to the smaller hick cities so they're moving to other West coast states major cities mostly.
It's actually really brave of him to have gone out and been able to not only explain and claim his [common] feelings/dysfunctions/mistakes, but to do so much more eloquently than I could have. If someone is aware of having been a shit, they are almost certainly working on it. He's not going around saying, "Oh, I'm so proud I have hurt people and not known how to react to serious relationships!" This is a total bunk video. Have any of us not unintentionally hurt others as we grow and learn?? Come on!
Yeah, but being honest about things you have no intention of really working on is no real virtue. Not referring specifically to Armisen, as I do not know him personally, but I have friends who say, essentially, "I am totally self absorbed and inconsiderate of others, that's just the way I am. To a hammer the world's a nail and your feelings aren't real to me. But at least I'm honest, you have to give me that!" and equally narcissistic justifications. It is usually a diversionary defense meant to defuse, forestall or end any further criticism of or efforts by the selfish perpetrators, and we don't have to give them that. All that said, people are a mess. Self included. That said, I find Armisen's "comedy" is mostly just whining and calling everyone stupid, not funny to me at all. And, yes...iboring.

It’s even creepier that as Americans we play this culture game where we pretend like this is a nice place to live and that we’re all good people. Reality is, we’re always shit testing each other, especially celebrities, and then waiting for people to crack and expose them for being “not nice” or “not good”. We think Fred’s the sociopath when in reality this country is sociopathic to its core. I don’t blame Fred for not being able to actually live as a “normal guy”. Question why we even demand that of people in the first place when this country is anything but a hospitable place to be.

I'm so angry at myself for getting sucked into watching this. Fred is an amazing comedian and musician who is flawed just like the rest of us. At least he's honest about it. This was just useless, time wasting garbage.

What was the point of this post? General dislike of Armisen? A) There's literally no regular cast member of SNL you can't accuse of having played a distateful role on the show. B) He sucks at relationships - like 90% of the rest of humanity. C) Portlandia parodied a city for a few years and was watched by a limited number of viewers...and it destroyed Portland? Give me a greak. Sounds like somebody just doesn't like the guy and wanted to post something to encourage others to dislike him.
Say whatever you want about Fred Armisen, but he's my idol for life. The reason isn't that he's funny, that he was on SNL and Portlandia, that he's an accomplished drummer or anything else. The reason is that he was not afraid to come out and say "I'm an atheist" on national television. It takes courage to say those three words; in this country, such an utterance can ruin a career. The guts on Fred are inspiring.
Seems like he’s very self aware. Nothing wrong with that. Almost everyone has hang ups and their own quirks except they’re unaware of their own flaws. He’s still likable and one of my favorite actors.

He has a rep in NY. He goes up to a woman he wants to sleep with, acts like he recognizes her, waits for her to see he's Fred, dates her, screws her, dumps her. My best friend confirmed it as he tried the same with her. She acted like she didn't recognize him. gross.

Why is it that Oregonian’s are so opposed to people from California moving there or an increase of tourism to Portland! I get it they raise prices. They also raise the value of neighbors homes, have similar liberal ideals, and appreciation for recycling and the planet. We are neighboring states! Tourism is often a city’s largest contributor to wealth and prosperity. So all you Oregonian’s stop being arrogant snobs! I am raised by someone who was born and raised in Oregon and have spent much time there. So I feel I have a good feel for the situation. Truthfully if you show respect and find mutual things in common, then it’s not an issue.

SUMMARY - he admits he has relationship problems (he was honest so they pile on),Portlandia was TOO good, next, I feel gross for watching this stop the video and go look for something else
Just like with any celebrity we only know their stage persona of course they have troubles like the rest of us, this video and all others like it are pointless.
