I am so excited about the biopic of Janis Joplin. I am such a big fan of her. The candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long.

Those sarcastically raised eyebrows & eye rolls to their surprise/amazement were hilarious.

They better do this biopic JUSTICE!! bc Janice was that soul queen and she understood being the "black sheep" the "outcast" for being "DIFFERENT" I got into her music on my own & she wasn't no KAREN!! she wasn't a IMITATOR of black culture, she was HERSELF! who was INSPIRED by the BLUES, SHE had SOUL & was pure ROCK & roll

She does resemble her a little bit. This is going to be so good! Love Janis! Love Shailene! :)

I always thought Jennifer Lawrence would have been the perfect actress to portray Janis. And if it was made like 20 years ago, Pink would have been a good candidate for the part but can she acts ??? Good for Shailene for winning this part cause she's as good as a J-Law . Same brilliant, energetic, intense, passionate, natural way of acting. She can slay in that role and even got an oscar cause Janis had a very rich, intense life. Full of adventures, of ups and downs. She was a pretty fascinating character ! Good luck Shailene ! I know you can do it ! ❤

Janis was so giving, of her voice, her soul, in everything she gave us. I hope this movie is good, I just don't see how anyone could do her justice.

Everyone keeps saying how Shailene is perfect for this part, but I'm just not sure. I like Shailene, I think she's a wonderful actress, very talented, but playing Janis is no joke. Janis has been gone 54 years this October 4th, and they've been trying to make a biopic for years, the closest they have come was The Rose with Bette Midler. If they're going to do a movie about Janis, I'm hoping they'll get all the facts right, she was a very complex person with a lot of little details and idiosyncrasies, that need to be addressed, I hope they do their research thoroughly. One of my concerns is that Janis was small, around 5'3/5'4 I believe and Shailene is tall, 5'8/5'9, little details like that are important, and her voice, not just her singing, but how she spoke, and that laugh, very distinctive. I did have the honor of meeting Janis on a couple of occasions, once at KSAN radio the day her dog George was stolen (she was heartbroken) and another time I ran into her at the Fillmore West. She was actually a very shy person, but friendly. Anyway, I hope Shailene does her justice, I'm rooting for her...🙂

Shailene, no joke, if you want to pull this off you will have to channel her and you will be fine.

This sounds like a terrible idea. She's nothing like the character she's portraying, she can't sing, and she's never proven herself as a heavy hitter in acting. Bette Miller and lady gaga were both similar to the underdog rockstar people they portrayed. Johnny cash wanted Phoenix to portray him because he was a great actor. I predict that this movie is going to make a great TV movie one day. Mediocre at best.

The current trend in bio pics is to create lavish love letters that either seek to retell tales in favor of the living or to cleanse the tale in favor of the dead. My fear here is that they will make her uglier even than she was treated and less beautiful than she actually was. My fear for the woman that portrays Janis Joplin is that she will attempt to imitate her and both fail the subject and stain her career. Janis Joplin was deep and complex - and lived in complicated times which are almost always misportrayed or stereotyped. Her drug and alcohol use was multi-channeled and all too easy to make the central focus of the moatvdynamic times of her life. And her talent - her stage abilities and that absolutely astounding voice of hers is inimitable. This is doomed to fail. There I said it.
