1984 My grandma owned an Apartment building on 92nd and Clovis and was renting one of her apartments to a Swan she would come and collect rent. And press one of the swans daughters hair. I remember the swan being extremely respectful to my grandmother even allowing her to pray for him and his family. He even pushed his red flag in his pocket when my grandmother got out of the car. Me and his daughter watch cartoons and drank red kool-aid. I remember my granny telling him your rent is only 1000$ why dose he give her two. That day influenced the rest of my life. I take out every older ladies trash were i live i give them rides and refuse to let them wait in the heat for a bus...the swans taught me respect.
Peace Alex, I enjoyed this and all your other Swan interviews. They're A1. An update of OG Edmund "Crazy Ed", Hakim aka Big Syke, K-Mike & Shaka would be GRAND. ✊🏽💥
here how he talks, he's polite and well spoken, this tells me he's legit, he doesn't have to use slang and act hard because dude is certified, real dudes talk straight as they have attained the freedom to be real
The early to mid 00’s in LA was just as Active and dangerous on the streets as it was in the 90s, people that’s not from LA think LA calmed down once the year 2000 hit,
*Early 2000s USA was more direct, physical, crime ridden, masculine, and aggressive than the 2010s. Including for Chicago. Was much worse in the early 2000s before drill than the 2010s as a whole. Just most shit wasn't sensationalized 24/7 on social media globally. You were there then you were there.*
U right ppl do have a choice but sometimes u gotta make that choice to join or get chewed up and spit out. Everybody situation is different and it's ppl that gotta do wrong in order to survive and I'm pretty sure u would do the same if it means u can have some sense of security, food on your plate and money in your pocket . Growing up I was raised around kids that had to raise themselves at the age of 11, mom on drugs dad not around. No family to look out for them amd got younger siblings to look after. Ppl from other neighborhoods jumping them and shooting at them just cus of the neighborhood they live in to the point that they're damned if they do and damned if they dont
Man not really Shaka is not from this era. He grew up in the 90s when it was just you growing up in a neighborhood and knew it was gang riddled. You had friends who chose to move to that other side. Then see your friends die. That anger inside forced these children and teens to get put on these gangs. If you aren’t from LA or even out of state, you wouldn’t understand. It’s part of the culture. Do you know how many teens were probably this 🤏 close to joining a gang and their parents moved or they were moved out of LA? Then you had gangs who beat up and robbed innocent. You’d get so mad and tired of it you’d get put on to be protected. It’s a cycle. Watered down now tho. Joining a gang these days is a one way ticket to prison. The cops are too smart now. And there are cameras everywhere
@Frank Suit I'm from L.A. I grew up in the 90s. I have multiple family members that gang banged. My father gang banged. My only brother gang banged and got life. Just saying...we know this some bullsh*t. Let's not sugar coat it
@ShowMeState Finest Nah...the choice is to stay away from the park and stay away from niggas that don't know how to stay out of trouble. I've been there. It's not as hard as people make it
What he really means that as a 13 year old in this environment there are limited choices, which makes it almost impossible to not take this route. Its an economic issue. Kids with unlimited resources with the best options to choose from often do better. Its always a choice, some people have 20 great options, and other only have bad option to choose from.
@@streetgangs Yes, but I think peer pressure also plays a huge factor in this discussion and it is a choice whether you succumb to PP or choose to go your own way, so it does depend on what kind of individual you are, at least to some degree. And I also think that one’s own level of self esteem is also a big factor in what an individual is willing to subject one’s self to.
“ willing to subject oneself to “ witnessing your relative, lose his life and to have his brains All over your shirt is not something that a 13 year old is willing to subject himself to, and as far as peer pressure I had no peers around me to pressure me. I was a child my parents didn’t even allow me to hang out, I decided to not be fearful of death and conquer it in my own way! At 13 I couldn’t choose where I lived at, or the neighborhood that my parents could afford. However I did choose to survive!
Dude is a smart cat….imagine how his life would’ve turned out if he wasn’t raised around that type stuff? 🖤🥶the 1st 2 dudes to speak is who I’m talking about
If you Real you Real no matter what set you claim or don't claim. See all them dudes was raised up together it deeper than a gang They family If you on the outside looking in ,ain no way you can understand that.
