You should drive cross country to get to Florida and come see us in Branson. Silver Dollar City is open for 60th anniversary. And I’d love to show you the tommy boy car in person.
This feedback is way past due...and I think I represent many of your fans. I've been watching you since the beginning and look forward to your vlogs. They're the escape I (many of us) desperately need from the daily grind, Covid-19 lockdown, and political hate. I especially love your SOCAL old-time restaurant choices like, Titos, Johnnies, and Shakies Pizza. We apprciate you!
Thank you Adam. This series has been so calming during these unstable times. It’s like we’re with you for lunch and chatting. No politics no issues just having a meal and a chat.
My parents took me to the opening week of Disneyland in July 1955. One of my dad’s best friends was an electrical engineer that worked for Walt Disney, and we were his guests for the grand opening of the park. I can remember them talking about the pressures of things that needed to be ironed out with the different rides.
I really like how you enjoy all things, including the ones that most of us would miss. Your enjoyment makes me smile. Thank you for your commentaries. They brighten my day😊👍💕
Had my 11th birthday at Shakey's in Cedar Falls, Iowa during one of our summer visits to Grandma's. Shakey's was the ONLY thin crust pizza I liked. That Shakey's is long gone now... but happy memories of the guy singing happy birthday and playing his banjo.... Shakey's was always a fun place to go.
⛔ WHEN I WAS YOUNG IN LOS ANGELES, IT WAS EITHER SHAKEY'S OR CHUCKIE CHEESE. SHAKEYS ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFET FED ME A HANDFUL OF TIMES IN MY CHILDHOOD 🍕🍗🥗
As if I wasn't homesick already!!! I am now booking a ticket back to LA. Shakeys. Is definitely one of my favorites!!! I'm so glad you're doing this series you've conjured up so many great memories for me.
The sans napkin saga continues. LOL! You probably won't believe this this. Shakey's has been gone a long time from Ohio. When I was just a babe, four or 5 years old in 1963 or '64. There was one in the Cleveland suburbs. We used to go there with my family almost every Friday night for pizza. The reason it sticks out in my mind is because at that time, they were famous for their player piano. The piano would play popular songs and everybody in the restaurant would sing while they were waiting for their pizza. Also you could watch them in the kitchen throw the pizza's crusts up in the air. Many were very talented. It was really a fun place to go. Even after we moved away, every time we went back to visit, we would eat there until one day, it just was not there anymore. That was a sad day indeed. Thanks for the memories!
I thought all the Shakeys pizza buffets we’re gone. We loved it. Fried chicken, salad, n pizza when my family was young it was a good place to go. Good memories. And Disney will be open by my upcoming Birthday ✌️😘👍🙏😎❣️
I said "so THIS is what we're dealing with" when I got my food last night out at dinner. My girlfriend looked at me with the strangest expression 🤣 Your sayings have really started to rub off on me lol
I'm from Anaheim and now live in Las Vegas, and your videos of Anaheim bring back so many memories for me, especially considering I worked at Disneyland.
Wow,I thought Shakey's pizza was gone forever.I grew up in Connecticut where there was one on route 44.When my dad would take us kids there they would have movies show on the wall from a film projector like Laurel and Hardy,Little Rascals and old tymey cartoons.Good times!
Awwwww Shakey’s was my first job I got the day after turning 16 in Modesto, Ca. Awesome memories!!! The best pizza ever😁 Oh and Adam here I’m Modesto they say they play that music at the 7eleven so the homeless don’t stay in front of the building too long 🤷🏼♀️ Guess they think they’ll get sick of hearing it :/
YAE! I LOVE SHAKEY'S PIZZA! WE USED TO GO THERE WITH MY FAMILY ON FRIDAY NIGHTS MY MOM & DAD RAISED 8 KIDS & MY MOM WORKED FULL TIME AS A TEACHER. GOING TO SHAKEY'S WOULD GIVE HER A SMALL BREAK IN HER LONG WEEK. THANK YOU I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!!😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
I laughed so hard at "Croutons ". Great video, these in depth talks are so nice especially when you grab a bite too. It feels like we're at a big table hanging out. Love ya man and big the foot, stay safe and keep on doing your thing because you rock🤟.
Wooooooooooooooooo!!!🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕You have done it again!!!! 40 days 40 nights of deliciousness!! I shall continue your journey with you!!! Thank you for keeping it going love the bike segments!! 🕶
When these lockdowns started, it was about giving the hospitals time to prepare for a surge of infections. Once they were ready however, it seems the target moved. It seems today, there are many that seem to think we can't re-open until there is a 0% chance someone will get infected.
Best video yet! I remember one time at shakeys pizza I ate so much off the buffet that I literally thought I was dying of a heart attack! Lol! Mike from Tennessee!
I remember back in the 1960s and 1970s there was a Shakey's Pizza place in Madison, Wisconsin. Thin crust, bubbly (big air pockets in the crust. It was made were you could see the man spin the doe in the air several times, sauce it, chees it, and put the toppings on it! Then throw it in the Pizza Oven. Big steel door pull open (bends down). We watched this as kids thru a window. One of a kind place. Wish it was still around, pizza was great, great atmosphere, and they had music (live entertainment). Those days are gone, but I still remember them!
Shakey's started in Sacramento... and used to be "the" pizza place around here (in fact most of them are still around, but different pizza joints took over). They even have the original sign of the first location in the food court area at the Golden 1 Center (where the NBA Kings play) . But now there's not a single location here anymore =-(. Yet they have all of the Sacramento history in the locations down in Socal. Haven't seen one in this area for over 30+ years now. I make a trip to the Anaheim location at least once while on a trip to Disneyland... brings back childhood memories.
We had a Shakey's Pizza here in my hometown, when I was growing up. My favorite place to go. Walk in and you picked out the toppings while watching them make your pizza. And the self playing piano and they would play the 3 Stooges on the big screen. Miss that place.
I had my first ever pizza at a Shakey's in Missouri back in the late 50's. They had about 350 locations nationwide, but inconsistent quality doomed them, and now they only have a handful of locations in two states.
Me and my brothers had birthdays at Shakey's growing up in Stone Mountain, GA, I loved that you could watch them toss the dough, I loved the thin crust pizza, I also remember the tin plates and the arm bands/straw hats (I think) the employees used to wear.
My goodness I didn't know there were still Shakey Pizza places still open. My local Shakey's closed probably 40-45 years ago......I remember it as so good...especially the mojos.
Makes me want to cry every time one of you guys standing under that Disneyland sign.was going to be there this time next year but I can’t see us being able to travel till the year after,I can’t wait till you can start going back there to do your Disneyland videos again 💓thanks Adam
My wife used to go to Shakey's in the D.C. area in the late 60's and early 70's. Player piano...long wooden tables...a place for kids to watch the pizzas being made....arcade....:)
I Honestly would love to see you at both openings but I know that’s a lot on you. Just do what ever you think you should me and everyone else will be happy either way.
Mother Nature I was just thinking Straw Hat. So good. I remember them pretty big in the early 80s in NorCal. Dont see any Straw Huts here in SoCal. Round Table is pretty good
@@rocknroller77 There's a few Straw Hats left in So Cal (Chino, Cerritos, Long Beach) but none left in Orange County. They used to be bigger down here.
Adam, you are ready for theme parks. You’ve worn your mask, followed the social distancing rules and acted decent. People in the general public are not. Refusing to wear masks, not covering coughs, etc. Florida’s Covid numbers are through the roof. Take care of yourself buddy. This virus isn’t playing around.
It seems to be the major cities that have the biggest problem. Some regions aren't as bad as others. But Orange County seems to be on an increase. occovid19.ochealthinfo.com/coronavirus-in-oc
writerpatrick the cast members’ unions are protesting the opening of Disneyland and Disneyworld. They are opening up these parks in states that have numbers that just keep climbing. The safety of their cast isn’t more important than making money.
Shakey's is not just in California,..they are also in the Philippines! In Michigan,..it is simply called, ""pop". Because soda is for baking! Great video,..you are getting excited about Disney opening back up! Nice video!
My childhood is salted with memories of meals and good times at Shakey's Pizza; birthday parties, family celebrations, ball game wins... We went to Shakey's at the Aurora Village Shopping Centre in Spenard, Alaska all the time until it closed in the late 1980s. Thanks for going to a place that is very dear to my heart, Adam. Keep up the great videos!!
I miss Shakeys, they used to be everywhere! Loved their lunch buffet - pizza, mojos, spaghetti, fried chicken...when I'm in LA there's a Shakeys on Sunset boulevard that we eat at all the time
Guess I should have said where it is.☺ The Beacon in Guthrie, OK. Some people think it's the theater destroyed in the movie Twister, but that was a fake one built for the film.
@@iceomat hello neighbor! I'm in tulsa! We got a new drivein built with fundraising after the original wooden structure burned down. Forget how old it was. I just watched twister movie last week!
I am very nostalgic about the many, many Sausage & Black Olive Pizzas my family had at Shakey’s when I was a kid in San Diego. Mom & Dad had mugs of dark beer and we kids had ice cold mugs of root beer. My favorite of all the funny signs on the wall was “We don’t swim in your toilet, please don’t pee in our pool.”
Shakey’s and those potato mojo’s sure sounds good with a piece of chicken and a slice of pizza. There used to be a location over in Tustin a few blocks away from the public library and then it got taken down unfortunately. 😅 Edit: typo
Many years ago Shakey's had 2 sides inside the restaurant. One side was for people over 21 (beer sales), and other side for kids and teens. I celebrated my 21st birthday (1966) in a Shakey's in Santa Rosa CA. I was so happy to be 'carded' by an employee. First beer was free.
There used to be a Shakey’s in my city. I remember there was a magician that went around to diffirent tables doing coin and card tricks. They called him Uncle Shakey. This was in a suburb in Milwaukee, WI
, it was the first franchise pizza chain in the United States.[2][3] In 1968, the chain had 342 locations.[4] The chain had about 500 stores globally, and 58 in the United States, as of July 2019. my mom ran one for 32 years of great food!
I think there was a theory (years back) that if stores played loud classical music it would keep kids from congregating there. 🤷🏼♀️ could be what that 7-11 is doing.
I can't stop laughing when you bite the broccoli and can't bite the other piece of broccoli 😂😂🥦. I keep repeating and repeating the same part where you're biting the broccoli. It's very funny. Keep up the good work Mr. Adam👍
Once Last Thing; Food & Drug Administration warns hand sanitizer’s May contain Methanol which is a Toxic Substance when absorbed through the skin. They List 10 different kinds. I don’t use them. I wash my hands constantly. As for the 7-11, they try to keep the riff raff from hanging around. Loud, Classic seems to work. CJ
As a long-time scholar of the Buffet Arts & Sciences, I couldn't imagine a "to-go" Shakey's Bunch of Lunch, but now thanks to this video...I can. Must. Hit. My. Local. Shakey's. NOW!
Had a Shakey,s pizza on Guam as a kid. We would go after our baseball games. Really good pizza and the building was huge with old style benches and tables, really cool.
Shakey's Pizza!!! This was the most unique pizza of my childhood. This was also the first place that I had pineapple on my pizza (WINNER!!). I've experienced many locations, but the "go to" location of my adolescence was on Valley View just off of the 91 freeway (Buena Park),
Here in Mn.,there was 1 of these. It was in the 1970's. By the end of that decade, it was gone! Known for being a fun place for kids' birthday parties. Could watch the pizza -makers thru the glass.....Neat!! Maybe 2or 3 old style arcade games as well...BUT, pizza only.....NO buffet, which were very rare anywhere in those days! Oh how we all miss those good 'ol days!!!
I went to the one in Tokyo about 16 years ago. I always had a special place in my heart for Shakey's. We'd get a bunch of pizzas and mugs of root beer. Good times!
please remember that just because places are opening doesn't mean it's safe to go everywhere and anywhere. anyplace that fails to enforce masks and social distancing is putting people at risk. as always, just because everyone is doing it doesn't necessarily mean it's a good idea. Be well!
I love how you are always changing your mind and never have a clue what you will be doing next, yet you are capable of sustaining the SAME EXACT usage of vocabulary at ALL given times. Consume Establishment Venture Delve into the subject matter Overview Procure Fawl-ks (folks) Many a times Multitude Plethora .... I use these too, but the amount of usage is 🤯
Loved the talk, these questions and more are on many minds these days. Trying to find the right balance on how things need to be done now. I/we will watch no matter where you end up!
My son every time we go to eat and bringing home he said “and this is what we’re deal with”. 😀😀 we have watching you since we went to Disneyland last year. Thank you for make your videos is been a good therapy.
I miss those potatoes. There used to be a Shakeys in the Chicagoland area when I was a kid and my folks would take me on Friday nights. Seeing you eat this brought back a lot of memories.
This reminds me of my college days at the University of Iowa in the mid 90s. There was a Shakey's near the football stadium and we used to hit up the buffet on Saturdays right after going to the game. My parents also used to like to take us to the buffet in the 80s when there were some Shakeys in suburban Chicago. I miss the combo of pizza and fried chicken.
Wow! There used to be a Shakey's Pizza in Fayetteville NC, back in the 1970's. Not sure when it disappeared, but I have fond memories of eating delicious pizza, drinking draft root beer, and singing along to funny song slide shows on family night. "On top of spagheeeetttiii..."
We had a Shakeys Pizza forever in Nashville Tennessee my husband worked there in early 70s. We were dating and he called me one night while I was still home age 14 and ask me if I wanted a pizza. Had never heard of pizza our dad didn't allow eating out. Well he brought me and my sisters a pizza ,buddy it was on from there he could not come in the house with out a pizza. We went there every Friday night after we married until they closed in the 90s. They had live music the band wore striped suits and played piano and banjo. Good memories. We still talk about it. My husband made a Mac special had everything but fishies, the owners liked it so much they put it on menu.
Adam, side note* pack some napkins in your carry bag and then you will have them for times when you have forgotten them. 😊😉 Enjoying your eaterie vlogs. Hello from Spokane Washington !
Oh yes, Shakey's. It has been a minute. Funny thing about Shakey's; my dad grew up without a ton of money. His family was not poor, but wasn't the most well-off either. They only ever ate out on special occassions, and for some reason, Shakey's became the go-to spot for graduations. I think it was Sizzler for birthdays and Shakey's for graduations. I know a lot of people celebrate at Shakey's, but I just thought it was funny that the only went there specifically for graduations. We have upheld that tradition also. I mean, we go to Shakey's a lot more now than he did as a kid, but every time I graduated from one school to another, we went to Shakey's.
Great hanging out with you Adam i must say it breaks my heart that your food series has ended I have to be perfectly honest with you I actually cried because I had the mot amazing time see old iconic eateries and learning the history of each place through you by giving me the historical significance of each place and also seeing the architecture of theses really added to the whole eating experience and I must say Adam you really made one heck of an enjoyable trip through history and not to mention all the places you picked to eat you food at weather it was on property or some other special place so I would like to thank you for such an amazing series and I hope that someday you will do this again and with that I’ll see you on the next vlog adventure also please be safe out there
We used to have a few Shakey's back home in Norfolk/Virginia Beach Virginia back in the late '60s/70s. Last one I saw was in Okinawa, Japan in 1985! Back when their pizza was awesome!
I’ve just had some major flashbacks! I grew up.... up north and we had a Shakey’s! Oh man.... memories! There was a big projection screen and they would show cartoons.... all the pizza and goodies you could eat! My friend and I are going to be trying for reservations starting Friday morning. I hope we can get some dates! I hope you can get some too. It’s going to be soooooo hot with these masks! I purchased a new mask that has the charcoal vents to expel the hot breath that gets stuck in the mask and to get air in and it is so much better! It is a bit more pricey but I think it’s worth it! My gut says you will be at Disneyland.... I think that is where your heart is.... even though you also love it out here at these parks!
Wow! Talk about close to Home. We stayed at the RV Park next door for 3 months. Definitely recommend. Best place in Anaheim to see the nightly fireworks when they start up again. The RV Park was nearly full each night when we arrived in Feb but dwindled to 3-6 occupied sites as soon as Disneyland closed. Shakey’s was my pizza parlour of choice growing up on Beach Blvd in La Habra. Also have eaten at the original location in Sacramento, but unfortunately it is gone.
Years ago when I was a child in Dallas, Texas, Shakey's was one of my favorite places. We loved standing by the big window at the kitchen and having pizza dough thrown at us. It seemed huge to me back then. I loved the pizza, too. Boy, I miss that place. It has been gone from Dallas for a long time now. Thank you for the little trip down memory lane!
