Thanks very much for this informative video! 🙏🙂 I got my first Shakuhachi two weeks ago and your videos are a great help. ... And besides that, as a German I really love your accent. 😅 It's so easy to understand for me. ☺️ Lots of love, Meike
Hi! Great video as always! Can I ask you for a quick tip? I've just started playing shakuhachi and when I play the middle kan octave, it sounds much louder than my otsu octave, especially the higher notes. I find it unpleasant. Is it supposed to be this way or is there a way to play it with less volume?
Thanks! 🙏 Yes, it's possible to play kan very quietly. What you describe suggests that you're using too much force for playing kan. Maybe have a look at the Playing Kan video for some tips. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FHnjehvzJj8.html
Thanks so much! Very valuable content, for me especially the second half. Would love to hear more ornaments clearly explained and demonstrated like this cause, especially with the Minyo, it just makes the difference between sounding like a beginner to more advanced.
You’re welcome! 🙂 I’m glad to hear you find the videos useful! 🙏 I’m not a Min’yo expert, so perhaps I leave that to somebody else. But, yes, playing it without any ornamentations sounds very bland.
Thank you. A great summary to enhance to my studies. It could possibly be helpful to give the Japanese word and notation for these repeats and ornaments, just a thought. I leave these videos with more than I started. Thank you, once again.
Thanks; it's good to hear this is helpful for you! 🙏 Usually, ornaments of this kind are not notated (it’s really up to the player to decide whether and which ones to add). Repeats are just notated as the same note twice or using a repeat mark (see the video on ‘First Exercises’.)
Another clear and concise contribution. These videos on basics are very much appreciated. Thank you once again. Both your content and your technical production are excellent.
