Chant first line of purusha suktam and after it add,"idam snaniya,om nama narayanaya namah".

Only those who have yagyopaveetam and perform the sandhya vandanam strictly are the only ones who are eligible to perform Shaligram puja by touching the Shaligram-this is shastra maryada and along with the above the person should also have deeksha from proper sampradayagya guru and get shaligrama along with the mantra deeksha if he wants to perform Shaligram puja. And after getting shaligram regular trikaal puja should be strictly performed to the shaligram in panchopchaar or shodashopchaar vidhi along with the moola mantra and mahanaivedyam should be offered everyday to shaligram at any cost. Special poojas on the occasion of ekadashi can be performed . If a person gets a shaligram without knowing rules and regulations of worship and if the shaligram is really a genuine one then that will definitely cost the person with worse outcomes. Nowadays the ones available in shops are just stones. A genuine one is very rare and the shaligrams show themselves to only some genuine people who are capable of keeping and maintaining the shaligram. Shaligrams are direct manifestation of Lord SrimanNarayan with tremendous power, and if not handled properly will lead to destructive results.

Ashok Giri don't sell shaligram. It's a sin and you will be thrown into hell for such deeds so jst don't do such things.

With all due respect to the shastras and the earlier replies I just want to reflect upon one thing that my acharya tells often. Lord srimannarayanan knows only to bless. He is of purna sttva quality. The lord will not bring you any bad unless the bad is to do good to you.

Saligrama contains 5k different avataras of lord vebkatesha or Vishnu

That is actually a somasutra or an abhishek plate . Hence it has a drain so that prasadam can be collected in a different utensil.🙏

Anuradhadeepak Choudhary sharkara hi yaneki shakkar. Shakkar jo bade teelon me milta hi dukaan mi. Cheeni nhi hi. Don't confuse between cheeni and sharkara.

Purushasuktham, Vishnu suktham if you don't know these you can use Gayathri mantra also

balaji R from a guru. Shaligram should never be bought from shops. Actually guru gives shaligram to his shishya along with mantra and deeksha.
