I love this movie. It's perfect to watch in any occasions. Stanley Tucci was so funny.

We in Ukraine currently experience intermittent blackouts because of the russian onslaught. But guess what - I have a notebook and several DVDs. Just yeaterday I watched this movie again and its like a breath of fresh air, like peace-time life. Great acting, funny characters.

Saw it years ago. It was the time to see it again. Almost cryied twice. So beautiful, joyful film. If you want to fill your heart with joy and warmth.. Watch this film...or Dance!

I watched this film today for an assignment I am working on but I ended up loving this film. The characters, their stories, and the dancing of course we couldn't forget about that. It is a masterpiece! I do wish to see movies like this now. I also wished that I was introduced to this movie earlier. But I am still happy to watch this. 10/10 good movie, good lessons, great casting!

This movie is beyond perfect! I've never seen a movie like this before. It's got everything in it - love, passion, music, perfect camera shots, outfits, dance, comedy, and more. Richard Gere deserves a ton of credit for his performance here. Man can dance! Jennifer Lopez was just great. Susan & Stanley... these two just won me. The whole cast was brilliant. I'd recommend this film to any next man/woman, regardless of your preference. Even the actors must consider themselves lucky to have worked in this movie. It's a rare one. Outta words! *13 May 2024*

The music is “Santa Maria” from Gotan Project. I first heard it on World Service about 35 years ago. It was the closing track on a wool music programme at around 03.40, it lasted 20 minutes and next morning I spent the day, finding it. It mesmerises me.

So crap compared to the original

It is pretty sad, since I watched both the Japanese "Shall We Dansu?" and this one, that in the 2004 remake, the scene involving the cha-cha practice for the Taplinger Trophy Dancesport event was taken out in the final cut in the remake. If I were the director with ballroom dance experience (and I had danced ballroom competitively), this part should be in there....especially with character Vern. I am Jennifer Lopez, who would be like Mai in the Japanese film.....what would I say to Vern in the film? Here is what should happen. "For the cha-cha round in the Taplinger competition, I came up with this good amalgamation. Vern, come here and take open facing position with me. Start with a New Yorker to your R, count 2-3. Then you do Three-Cha-Cha Chas in Open Facing first, 4 and 1---then a New York to your L--also known as "The Butterfly", for another 2 and 3, and you finish in Open Facing again for another 4 and 1. Finish off with a New York to your L to check me on count 2 3." "Let's do it again. Since this move travels down the floor and you open up your arms, the judges will see this travelling, and this will mean your number will get called back to move on to the final cha-cha heat. Here we go, 1 2 3 4 and go - New York, cha-cha-cha--But-ter-fly--cha-cha-cha--Another New York....Good Vern! You are a great student. But we need to adjust because your very fatty size may compromise your partner in the competition..." Something like that scene needs to be added, and then this "Shall We Dance?" would be better.
