WOW!, In my 53yrs I must say you "nailed it!" I have personally experienced everything you touched base on, from Tibet to Japan; from Africa to southwest Texas. I'm Apache and had the privilege of traveling.

As someone who has done magic mushrooms it’s not a large leap to feel that you have left to a new realm.

Good video! A SUPER interesting note for anyone wondering how the shamans would have learned about the whole piss mushroom thing theres actually a very interesting fact about that. It has been observed in nature that animals themselves have drank the pee of other animals who have eaten the mushrooms, so when a shaman says "theyve learned from the spirits" they not exactly far off.

It was practiced and is currently practice. However, I feel like it's slowly dying off as our grandparents and parents who are well versed in this practice are passing away. It's especially Hmong shamanic animism. My children can't speak the mother tongue and to practice you need to be able to speak the language. Also, the spirits have to select you in order for you to become a Shaman practitioner. There are no books to teach that just the guidance from the spirits. I'm wouldn't say I understood the religion as well as the older generations, but I understand the basics.

What would be the point of modern shamanism?? It seems you would just get called a rebel or a crazy person??

@@UrbanFishing-MTBall elements have a spiritual connection , as all elements are what created us, this is everything that creates and sustains earth and the cosmos ? Shamanism , Māori my culture, we put ourselves at the same level as mature and the Cosmos, modern society don’t respect earth hence why it’s super polluted and we live in a greedy system

@@UrbanFishing-MTB sorry for my spelling mistakes, basically earth is Mother Earth to us and the sky is Ranginui, sky farther which is the cosmos which means every planet is a woman that has been created by the sky father (cosmos) it’s confusing but also very simple , our old way of understanding this is so complicated, they were Intune and knew every single star in the sky that’s how smart they are, I could never even begin to have that type of intelligence

So shamanism = animism but does animism exist in non-shamanic religions?
@cgdahlin
@cgdahlin 4 года назад
Animism is an even looser term than Shamanism, shamanism could be likened to a methodology whereas animism is more of this fundamental belief that everything has spirit, is spirit. You could very loosely trace this to concepts within religions, like the Holy Ghost in the Abrahamic, or Akasha in Hinduism You can find this in occultism, but that is very much not a religion. But to speak more plainly, no, you don't see it, neither do you really see the shamanic in religion, paganism or voodooism would be it's nearest relative. Religion has long left such roots, but you can find traces.

@@cgdahlin I understood but the belief that things have spirits in both animism, totemism and shamanism are close, a shaman would then be someone specialized in communicating with spirits?
@orcbolado9041
@orcbolado9041 4 года назад
@@cgdahlin I believe that shamanism is the closest thing to animism apart from animism and totemism shamanism is basically one of those two if not both more with the figure centered on the shaman
@cgdahlin
@cgdahlin 4 года назад
@@orcbolado9041 Yes, animism is the philosophy, totemism is its symbolism/language and the shaman is the practitioner, the one entrusted to take the plunge into the spiritual. Yes, in all of the affairs of the shaman, they are communicating/working with spirits. Whether this is healing, orchestrating ceremonies, or taking the shamanic journey to obtain knowledge, all acts arise from a relation with spirit.

is modern shamanism possible ?
@cgdahlin
@cgdahlin Год назад
Yes. Though, it is in two different forms. There is the ancient way, still practiced in cultures relatively untouched by the modern word. This still does exist, at least as far as the course has gone, it very much seemed retained and still going on in Siberia down into the Altain Mountains. Then of course there's neo-shamanism (loose term) of which is practiced by individuals but doesn't tend to be as community centric as the ancient way. Then, there is a whole lot of strata between these two, but just from personal experience, I knew a Lakota medicine man, fully practicing, in my youth. In recent years I've known a handful of unaffiliated independent shamans (neo-shamans). Very much still possible.
