It’s because his environment has been his bros. So many comedians don’t form their comedy around the natural banter that comes from shit talking with friends, they form it less as conversation but more like presentation
"If you take heroin, every bus is a bullet train..." My fucking sides hurt. The art of delivery and "lean" punchlines is hands down one of the toughest skills in life to master. To feel the crowd slipping on premise and then gut punch them with that level of precision. Fuck man...epic level talent.
Nailed it. ‘Lean Punchlines’ I’m a songwriter and get asked a lot to cowrite. I always start by saying, “Our goal is to simply convey our idea until it can be felt by the listener. We will cut more ideas than we will keep.” Yet they will fight for the perfect lyric that just doesn’t fit. Or shred a guitar solo over a pop song.
What I love about his style is that it feels improvised. His cadence and delivery sounds less like a stand-up routine and more like he's just talking shit with his friends at a bar.
I’m so sorry for your loss. May your mom rest in peace and may God bless you and your family 🙏🏻❤️💫🕊️Sending you prayers for peace and healing and sending you a hug! 🫶🏻🙏🏻
The sign of a classic comedy special is that you can come back to it dozens of times and laugh as hard as you did the first time. This is one of those specials.
Him getting cancelled from snl was a blessing. He’s too talented to be on network tv. He belongs in a spaces where he can be himself. Keep doing what you’re doing shane
🤣🤣 The description of the Fox News Dad, is SPOT ON for my dad! 🤣😂🤣 He'll literally pause it, call me, and say "here! Listen! This is what I was trying to say!" Lol!!!!
@@howlsitgoing306I’m honestly going to remember partly because of trump murdering him but mainly because Ted Cruz got away with murder so many times because he’s the zodiac killer
Shane! My dear brother was Down Syndrome, and for sure, FOR SURE, professional wrestling is a mania in the Downs community. It is life for them. Monday Night Raw is a national holiday, EVERY WEEK. Respect for your comedy.
It’s been truly amazing to watch the rise of Shane Gillis. Been a fan since day one and still laugh at 90% of his jokes. You don’t get iconic comedians anymore so getting to first hand experience one in this generation is amazing
I remember watching this when it was around 15k views. I’m so glad all you guys give him the love he deserves. Shane is a great guy. I DMd him telling him that I watched his special (beautiful dogs - Netflix) the day my father died. He made me laugh. No one makes me laugh like Shane does. He scratches the spot that no other comics can scratch.
@@tophan5146he used a racial slur (rhymes with sink) for Asians and it was found by a ridiculously self-titled "comedy reporter" or more correct description is useless human/snitch who brought the podcast to light that may have had 100 views before that. You know this person probably said, "As you ALL know I love comedy and have a great sense of humor but... blah blah blah insert self serving statement here! This person obviously went looking for anything to gain attention because he is a failed comedian in life. So the joke just has no context. All of it is being said with them mocking themselves because they are such idiots and even knowing it was wrong by referencing them telling someone in the story you can't say something in public. I mean it was wrong to say but if it was accompanied by all the Asian abuse from Covid at the time, it was just bad timing any other time he probably would have survived it! Comedy is not always going to be funny sometimes it falls flat and guess what the comedian knows that and it will reflect in ticket sales. Humor is subjective and when something is said without hate and only for the humor it should be taken with a grain of salt. I mean Carlin has a famous joke about the word grape (the G is silent just not trying to violate RU-vids terms of service) proving ANYTHING can be funny. Yes, it may be wrong but if comedians never took risks you wouldn't be laughing ever. To summarize someone went searching through someone's HAHA JOKE shows with the intention of finding anything they could use to negatively affect him and they did as you will with ANY comic in the world! But, that all being said we wouldn't have these Gilly and Keeves skits or this special. Not being on SNL was the best thing for him long term. He also has the fact he was obviously funny he made the cut for SNL which really isn't that good of a show anyways! Sorry for the novel of a comment just hate the people who can not just laugh or just ignore someone they don't find funny!
@@dennyshawyer1993 with varying success it has to be said. Those with years of solid material and prolific at writing seem to be doing well, Normand, List and Morril for example.
@@henoktesfaldet4517 I'd agree with that. However like you said it varies for sure.. for example I'd never even heard of Andrew Schulz until he released a special on YT that he unsuccessfully shopped around. I'd heard of Shane before watching this. That may just be my experience. Fr curious would you put Schulz in the same category as the names u listed? Maybe I was late
The whole: "make a wish foundation celeb being a bad sign to the terminally Ill" joke has actually been done more than a few times. Just in different formats. No hate on shane I just thought this was parrarel thinking. Also he did it better than the other two. And hes funnier than the other two.
Without a doubt, in my opinion, one of the best stand up specials of the last decade. It doesn't have to be for everyone, this is just undeniable. Shane is the man.
Nothing is undeniable. I can deny your claim that this was funny in any way. If you enjoyed it, that's good. But I didn't even crack a smile once. Now.... Tom Segura WAS the funniest stand up comedian who I had ever seen, until I saw Norm MacDonald. I've never laughed harder or more consistently at any of the stand up shows that I've been to before then or since then.
man i've been watching a lot of specials this definitely was my favorite, i was crying through the whole thing. Definitely cheered me up after my break up
They way he makes his bits so approachable like he’s just bullshitting with you and not on a stage is great. The guy had people laughing at everything, trans, trump, school shootings. A good comedian for sure
My special needs son once participated in a special needs basketball game. It was the funniest, best, most wholesome thing ever. My kid was passing the ball to kids on the other team and celebrating with them when one made a basket. Watching a special needs kid celebrate is an amazing experience. They have total wild abandon. No self consciousness to temper their joy. It is the best.❤❤
@@lennylennington in almost every school there is always one person who thinks they can communicate with animals. meaning they feel like they have special powers, and trust me... they SWEAR up and down they can talk to a specific species of animal..hers just happened to be a horse so he made the horse sound just for extra comedic effect, and also like she was trying to warn the rest of the kids danger was approaching. .....did I explain it good enough for ya bro?? I did my best. 😅
Shane has been my favorite comedian since I found out about his podcast, I love seeing him blow up he really deserves it. My favorite bits are always when he talks about his dad 😂 you can tell he really loves Phil. DAWGZ🤙🏾
You explained and perfectly made everyone explain and understand how you described the aging of your dad... so much to the T that everyone was able to insert themselves into your description.... Talk about painting a picture... 🙌🏾
I might be the only one to notice this but nick mullen made this joke before this special. Hopefully just similar ideas cause I think Shane is a great comedian.
@@liammagin8642 you're going to have to link something for proof, but I'll let you in on a little secret: the material people use for a special isn't a one and done, first night only time, set. Comedians use the same material, sometimes for years and years. Filming a special is actually usually the retirement for these jokes, as now everyone can just see them online instead of getting to reuse them every weekend in some random city. All that to say, with no knock to Shane, that premise could be years old...especially with no pop culture references and just a standalone joke.
I saw his impersonation of Pres Trump on Gutfield recently. I just watched this comedian. Thank you for posting this. This guy is hilarious and speaks from a good heart. What pure fun that was listening and watching. I wish him continued success and a long and great career
My brother with Down Syndrome has played a lot of Adaptive Football, but his games are absolutely hilarious. He hates playing defense and destroys on offense, one time he decided he was tired of defense, rotated around the line of scrimmage and got the opposing center to snap him to ball which he then ran for a touchdown against his own team.
Best special i have ever seen in the last few years, if not all time. May not be the legendary/ingenious notch at all times but subtly great the entire time.
I just found him on Theos podcast a few days ago. Been binging him, he’s really on another level when it comes to surprises and twists. The directions are things you’d never dream of and they work
just finished my 3rd watch and it's honestly gotten better and funnier with each viewing. Shanes becoming one of my favorite comedians. This will definitely be in my rotation of sets I revisit every so often but I'm already pumped for some more material. I'm kinda sad that it's over, I almost feel like starting it from the beginning now. Fantastic work
I think Sam Morrill " I got this" stands up, the guy is an amazing joke writer. I also like Sean Patton Scuttlebutt, that's a straight existential experience. It's an album, not a special.
Bro has louis Ck energy where he doesn't need the crowd to be with him and it's actually funnier if the crowd is initally against the joke. He managed to pick things that would trigger austin liberals and conservitives simultaneously and ended with everybody laughing, man is a one of a kind talent.
This is better at bringing people together than someone who constantly berates only side. And he's actually good at the racial humor, without being racist. Rare.
His comments about Downs and autism are awesome. There’s a guy that works at food lion I don’t care how bad your day is his energy, attitude, and just over joy for life. It awesome seeing you no matter who you are or if he’s met he gives you a high five or a hug talks to you it makes the day better.
Yeah. Release the B roll Shane! Release the cut bits on Patreon! We’re going to ask until the end of time just like we demanded The Old Testament back.
Yes 100%. I've seen enough Louie to sense the same sort of comedy 🤣 I didn't know much about Shane, until the SNL thing, but he's been killing it on podcasts, and this is amazing, and I'm only 9 minutes in 😂😂
Just wrote the same exact thing. He’s like a slightly more conservative and honestly less explicit Louis. I’m pretty picky about stand up and don’t watch it because they suck compared to my favorites, but damn Shane killed it.
