A few things to add to that. You'll note that his shoulders are more opened up forward in the direction he is going. This means that his flick is kicking at a more natural trajectory instead of having to go sideways splits style. As for "rhythm", that's a little bit strength and a lot bit timing the flick. He delays the flick a good bit before kicking off the top of the board and not the side. Also, his kick is mostly straight. It goes forward and back without doing a circular rotation. This is important because it's effecicient use of energy. If you do more of a rounded flick like what you're doing, a lot of the energy your leg is creating is getting expended into the air and not onto the board. Part of the reason you see him "leaning his head forward" is because he is jumping more off his front foot than off his back. When you pop off of both feet equally it makes popping the tail specifically more challenging because instead of being able alternate your movement upwards (front foot jump) from the downward motion of the board (back foot pop) so that they can be independently defined movements, instead jumping off both feet means that your front foot is actively fighting the downward pop of the board. They need to be as isolated as popssible. Lastly his upper body doesn't go up to quick. He pops with more power than he does speed. Basically his goal is to get his entire center of gravity higher as a whole so he has more time to handle the other movements of the board with more precision. This is the "floaty" part of his jump that you mention and it's common to basically mostly skaters who have that effortless look to their style. Hope that helps. :) Rad video man. Keep it up.

I had the idea that maybe Shane also leans so far over his front leg in order to stabilize his jump. Instead of trying to balance between the back leg and kind of awkward front leg, the lean allows him to focus solely on the front foot motion. Love your videos and watching your progress. Keep thrashing, Joe!

If you told someone 1995-2005 that an 8.125 board was considered skinny they'd think you're nuts haha. I love 8" boards though. Perfect balance between what i used to love skating as a kid in 2004 and what I like skating now my feet are bigger lol

seriously love your channel bro. got a quick question, why do you catch your tricks going down so fast? do you catch your tricks early to feel a little safer and prevent another injury? and have you ever thought about trying to do your tricks in a more floaty suspended way? Keep up the good work. Also I’m getting Ishod’s twin tail thanks to your review :)

I think it has to do with the power to board weight ratio. That's why a small kid might only be able to kickflip a centimeter high, because his body cannot generate enough power to pop the board and make it suck up to his feet. The heavier the board, the more power needed. The lighter the board, less power is needed.

The trick is not to think about the flick. It is to think about the ollie. If you put your foot in a kickflip stance and pop the ollie you will inadvertently flick the board because of the foot placement. This is the trick to the kickflip. But you HAVE to jump slightly backward if you want to land it perfectly.

You need to learn how to get the Ollie’s higher imo… the timing is how his deck is setup his tails hits the ground quicker that’s why you see him already sliding his foot up the board before his tail hits vs like Nyjah. Even tho Nyjah on thunders and his board tail has a lot of pop it hits the ground not as fast and his tail is smaller so he is able to wait a quick half sec. to slide his foot up. if you can ollie above knee and almost waist height you will be able to kickflip that high also

Probably kicking too straight or slightly in front of you, you want to kick out to the side off the nose, if you’re goofy kick out to the right, if your regular kick out to the left

just commenting because you're not at 100k yet wtf leading with the knee is what made kickflips happen for me, board was landing way in front before because you asked, I'd rate your kickflips 8/10 on a harsh scale, because catch and control are literally perfect but the lack of pop is hurting the overall :)
