Here is a wonderful record I have had for a very long time, strangely this has two recording dates on the online discography, it is also listed on Regal 8314 as Hollywood Dance Orchestra, but April 1927! I truly LOVE this record, and I hope You will enjoy it also!

A great tune and orchestra. One of Adrian's best. A very good vocal by I. Kaufman. Minimal surface noise and great fidelity.

OMG! I THINK Roybo just took us all to a 1920s Chop Suey joint and serves up this hot platter ..an unknown oriental themed foxtrot from 1927! What a novel treat! This poor little "Shanghai Refugee" is one hot Chinese dish, she is!! Well played and stunning xylophone work puts the "chop chop" over like soy sauce on the rice! Very delicious squeeling clarinets after the vocal, so twenties, fun! This thing has got everything but the fortune cookie at the end! I actually. chuckle at the ending! So campy, it tickles me! 😋 Great sounding fidelity you acheived coming over my tiny phone speaker too! Tuba sounds great! Mad respect for the xylo player. This is one swell Banner. And a perfect take! Adrian must have been pleased! Nobody flubbed one note. Funny coincidence, I was eating a bowl of beef chowmein when I played this! 😂 😂😂😂 Thanks for adding this delightful Chinese flavored treat! Immensely amused with it. Chinese food for my jazz ears! Yumm. I will gladly leave the tip. ❤ Really enjoying your channel.

@@roybo1930 Oh, great idea! It would fit in perfectly in the Chinatown spots. I love Carrol Channing in that movie!! It's a bit over the top as a 60s retro of the twenties, but way better in ways over the 30s and 40s retro 20s ones! Then there's Billy Wilders retro 1929 masterpiece from 1959 that is spot on! You know the one I mean, Some Like It Hot! 😋

@roybo1930 0:53 is the exact one that got my attention! Also in April 1927, the Kuomintang launched a purge of Communists in Shanghai [what areas they controlled] which added to the situation.

Rust does not list at all this absolutely fabulous side that was issued on Domino 3952 and Regal 8314 as well. The exact recording date is not known: I found April 1927, 15 April 1927 and May 2, 1927, all for the same recording bearing the identical matrix number! Madness... I am absolutely fond of this sparkling and energetic, but smooth arrangement and performance :-) Kaufman's vocal is excellent too. Although I could not find clear credits, style-wise this might be Adrian Schubert, but then other options are just as well possible. Thank you so much for sharing this gem!

Amazing orchestration of a totally unknown tune, highly tempered but not in the overwhelming mid 20s dance craze mood, more of a fast paced foxtrot, nice vocal, but I'd rather have it at a clean instrumental version, never the less a wonderful record, thank you for sharing

@@robturner3065 Now that's a good question. Both those guys had the lions share of the vocals on those 20s foxtrots. I'd wish Billy Jones sang a few more myself. Johnny Marvin too. "Give Me a Night In June!" 🥰

@benzo4029 Месяц назад
@@robturner3065 That's a great description of his sound! I liked him because he was a singing ukulele player. More in line with singing banjo and guitar players like Eddie Peabody and Nick Lucas. Johnny wasn't in the same league as Irving Kaufman or Arthur Fields at all! Those two fellows had big voices with bravado. Something the acoustical recording horns almost mechanically required. My Irving Kaufmans are all acoustic records, while my Arthur Fields are acoustic and electric. Bless him, his singing on those 1929-30 acoustic Harmony's is probably the only reason they were remotely sellable! Now lets jump up a higher quality level of male singers and we come to the superb SAM BROWNE. !! From the UK!! Might I say, better than Bowly in the early years?!
