Khelif was registered as female because doctors based gender on the genitals they saw upon birth. Some people who have the same disorder as her sometimes have an internal testis that is underdeveloped but sometimes they don't. They could have ovaries and a menstrual period, but that doesn't mean they can conceive a child. There are some cases in which a person with the same disorder did conceive a child but as long as they have XY chromosomes scientists consider them as biological males and will have significant advantages over women in physical strength. I think that's the main reason why the IBA banned them from competing.

Khelif is a woman with XY chromosomes. The genitals do not match the chromosomes. This is what the IBA (International Boxing Association) saw with the test they gave her and then banned her in 2023. Khelif was born with Disorder of Sex Development (DSD). However, this was no fault of hers. On a side note, she does have more testosterone than an average woman, thereby giving her more power. This is what the Italian boxer felt, causing her to quit the match. Honestly, I don't know what to do about this situation.
