I have to agree, that rusty shack made with the eva foam has a very distinctive, characterful look to it. I think that and the water tower had your best rust effects out of the lot.
Yes, indeed. The water tower definitely had the best rust for sure. I completely agree about the eva foam buildings. Just interesting little structures. I wasn't sure how they would turn out, but I am certainly happy with the results. Thank you!
Cutting partially through the foam board, so it's a continuous strip bent into a box, CAN work better if following two methods. 1) Use a knife to shave off the ends of the foam, at 45 degree angles, so they can be glued together flush. I've personally used this method before, and while it wasn't perfectly clean, it hot glues together well enough. It'll be on the inner surface of the structure, so no one will ever see it. 2) Cut lengths of balsa wood, or possibly lengths of paper straw. Insert these into the corners, so it looks like the building is reinforced by rectangular or cylindrical frames. This can also work well in a fantasy setting, for making timber framed buildings.
You are correct, and that is a tactic I have tried in the past with... mixed results. 🤔 I probably ned more practice to make it look good. Thats why i bought a 90 degree matte cutter a while back. Since I don't do a lot of fantasy builds or even 20th-century builds, I wouldn't use the technique often, but I can definitely see it being a great result! Thank you for the awesome suggestions!
