also in light of Kobe's death i am uncertain Shaq would speak the same words again with Kobe's death in mind. Why would Shaq regret his champion years with Kobe after Kobe was taken so tragically and early?
I miss those days Penny was my favorite player.I met him at his basketball camp in Memphis 96 & 97.Cool dude.If Nick Anderson would've made just one free throw in game one with the Houston Rockets in 95 the Magic wouldn't have gotten swept.
I still can't believe this squad didn't win a championship. What a lost opportunity this was. This period was pretty much the sports highlight of my early teenage years.
@@wgpllc1 What jealousy he was the guy. The team was jealous of him. People really thought Penny was the man & so did Penny. I always thought Hardaway was okay but never as great as people hyped him up & i was right
@@melvynsngltn27 You were wrong, he never experienced his prime because of injuries, Penny himself said his knee problems started in the 1996 playoffs when Joe Dumars knee'd him in the back of his knee.
Marcus813* As a KNICK and MAGIC fan back then. I was so pissed with REGGIE.. thank God The MAGIC kicked them out in the ECF🤭.. like you. I was still in shock on what have transfired in the 95 finals againts HOUSTON.. I think if my teams did met in the ECF. KNICKS and MAGIC.. I believe THE KNICKS will win in 6 over the young MAGIC.. And will have a great chance in dethroning THE ROCKETS in a rematch in the finals.. even though the PACERS did lucky enough in disposing the KNICKS due to a missed layup by EWING. I Still find it the KNICKS is the much more superiour team than INDIANA to be honest
@@mrboo3049 Please if the Knicks couldn’t beat the Pacers, the Magic would’ve destroyed them if they miraculously came back from 3-1 vs them. Shaq would murdered Ewing.
Its great to be a 90's kid and become a KNICKS and MAGIC fan right here. i wanted ORLANDO to win the finals that year. i really thought they were going to win it ALL THE WAY i hated REGGIE that time😂 lol.
Underrated in NBA annals is the quiet rivalry between Shaq (a top tier arguable top 10 -20 all time player) vs Reggie (a periphery star with clutch greatness): 1993 The Pacers steal the 8th seed from rookie Shaq in Orlando. both teams are 41-41 and teams on the rise by 1993-94 in a vacant, Jordanless NBA 1994, The Pacers sweep a #4 seed 50-32 Orlando Magic as a fifth seed 47-35 team and defeat Orlando 2-0 in Orlando. 1995, The #1 Magic defeat the #2 Pacers 4-3 in the 1995 ECF. 1996, The Magic are 60-22 and #2 to Chicago's 72-10 and the Pacers are 52-30 and #3 seed, the Magic and Pacers split the 96 regular season 2-2 and are destined to faceoff #2 and #3 in the second round but Reggie only plays game 5 vs #6 Atlanta in the first round, scores 31 points but loses 3-2 and miss challenging Orlando for 3 straight seasons. 1997, Indiana slumps, Orlando drops to #7 seed as Shaq leaves for LA, LA wins one playoff series and loses to Utah 4-1. Orlando loses to Miami 3-2 with Penny as main star and catalyst. 1998, Indiana is 58-24 and challenging 62-20 Chicago 4-3 in 1998 ECF. LA is 61-21 and gentleman sweep 61-21 Seattle 4-1 before being swept by Utah 4-0 in a surprising 1998 WCF. 1999, The PAcers choke vs New York. The Lakers win one playoff series and are swept by Duncan and RObinson's Spurs 4-0 in the second round. 2000, The 56-26 Pacers vs the 67-15 Lakers in the 2000 NBA Finals, Shaq and L.A. win 4-2 vs Reggie and Indiana. Indiana was on and off from 2001 to Reggies's retirement in 05 while LA won 3 titles from 2000-02 and made another appearance in 2004 vs the team that defeated Reggie's Pacers in the 2004 ECF. Shaq moved to Miami in 04-05, Reggie's final season and Shaq eventually wins his 4th and final ring in 2006 with the Miami Heat. Shaq vs Reggie is low-key classic NBA rivalry
I remember watching this a day or so after my Rockets beat the Spurs to win the West. I wanted Orlando to win because I enjoy watching them play, Shaq and Penny were two of my favorite players and I figured because of their youth and inexperience they’d be easier for the Rockets to beat. Turns out I was right.
Тогда Орландо еще не знала,что проиграет все 4 игры Хьюстону в финале,а Ник Андерсон в первом матче не забьет ни одного из 4 попыток штрафного на последних секундах....
Shaq was my favorite player and followed his entire career. Though it was great watching him 3 peat in LA with Kobe and crew, this 95 Magic team will always be my favorite. They were so in sync as a team and had that love for each other as teammates. The break up of this team was all the horrible Orlando front office letting the franchise walk out. Still gets me upset to this day.
@jaboo82681 Solid yet. Not good enough coach, never made adjustments and unlike Phil Jackson he never had a system for Shaq. Shaq be dominant everyone else just have fun
@@ChrisM07 Doubtful. Jordan came back with a vengeance after this year, probably would've kept getting beat by the Bulls. I'm sure they would've been great games though.
@@ChrisM07 Another X factor was Phil. Who knows if the Lakers would've won anything if he hadn't come along, just a damn good coach. Penny and Shaq were kinda already getting jealous of each other like Kobe and Shaq.
i blame Brian Hill for not getting that ring Team was young and most talented in the 90S just needed good guide (coach), Penny (the goat!) if he wont become HOF..... I say fak stats, rings ,etc, he was surpassing Magic in all the ways, such a talented and athletic player...
@jaboo82681 Brian Hill had a good team. He really wasn't a good coach, just like Bob Hill with the Spurs while Pops was the GM. So guys are only good because they have a good team or a star or 2
All of the Magic's playoff exits were sweeps with him as coach. Obviously the Magic should've at least won G1 against the Rockets but regardless it was still a clean sweep.
@@melvynsngltn27 That was simply a bad matchup Dream wasn't as effective in the paint against the Sonics because they could pull him away from the basket and Kemp dominated against the Rockets fowards who weren't the rebounders Thorpe was Rudy T couldn't really make any adjustments against that, the Rockets 2nd leading rebounder was Drexler who was a guard. With Thorpe not only was he was able to help out with the rebounding he could also score inside when Dream was getting double teamed which in turn opened up the Rockets shooters more on the perimeter, without him it made it easier for the Sonics to double team with the other Rockets just standing on the perimeter. The Magic getting swept by the Rockets wasn't matchup related because on paper they shouldn't have lost in such lopsided fashion considering their talent.
This team should of at least won two or three rings together they weren't suppose to lose in the finals to the rockets especially being swept by the rockets.
Shaq is the 3rd or 4th best player ever only MJ Kobe and LeBron are above him it's not debatable really only him and Bill Russell r the only bigs to 3peat and Shaq took on all the Legendary bigs outside of Kareem Wilt Bill Walton and Nate Thurmond. He was 20 yrs old housing cats and people didn't truly want to guard the diesel 1 on 1 because Shaq took it as disrespect that others envied him so uaed it as further motivation to be a legend
Kobe BRYANT DID THAT JUICING THING AND JELLY DONUTS COMING INTO 2002 SEASON HE PUT ON 20 POUNDS OF JUICE BUT DROPED IT FAST AND GOT DOWN TO HIS OR CLOSE TO HIS NATURAL PLAYING WEIGHT AND WAS LIKE FUCK THAT IM A BALLA
The best SAQ SEASON OF SAQS CAREER AND PENNY HARDWAYS BEST SEASON OF HIS CAREER. THEN CAME THE JUICE AND JELLY DONUTS AND YEAR BY YEAR IT WAS DOWN HILL ESPECIALLY FOR PENNY CUZ HE WAS A POINT GUARD. SAQ WAS LUCKEY WITH LAKERS CUZ HE PLAYED CENTER AND PHILS RULE WAS THE BURMUDA TRIANGLE WORKS AROUND SAQ GET THE BALL TO SAQ BECAUSE YOU GOTA ADDMIT SAQ WAS BAD IN 2000 BUT STILL NOT AS GOOD AS HE WAS IN 95
HAD SAQ PLAYED THOSE 28 GAMES HE LAYED OUT OF IN 1995 SEASON THE MAGIC WOULD HAVE WON 70 GAMES OR MAYBE 73 GAMES. THEY BEAT JORDAN AND BULLS AND JORDAN WAS REALLY BACK PLAYING JUST LIKE HE DID. YEA THEY DIDNT HAVE RODMAN BUT LOSING BJ ARMSTRONG AND I GUESS WILL PURDUE DID COST THEM. SPEAKING OF COST THEM NICK ADERSONS 4 MISSED FREE THROWS COST THEM THE FINALS CUZ THE TEMPO WAS GOING MAGICS WAY AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN YOU IN THE TWIGHLIGHT ZONE IN GAME TWO THREW 4.
SEE IF THEY DONT WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP THEY MAKE SAQ AND DAVID ROBINSONS POINTS GO DOWN TO MAKE TEAM BETTER THAT DOESENT WORK! SAQ AND ROBINSON KEEP THERE POINTS HIGH AND TELL THE REST TO PICK UP THERE LAZY DEFENSE AND DOING ALL THE SMALL THINGS. YOU DONT EVER BE A SOCCER COACH IN NBA! LET THEM DO THE WILT THING AND PICK UP THERE DE AND WHEN THEY GET DOUBLE TEAMED OR TRIPLE TEAMED THEN YOU HIT THE SHOT
THE BULLS WAS SUPPOSE TO WIN 70 GAMES IN 1992 SEASON BUT YOU ALL KNOW WHY THEY ONLY WON 67 GAMES??!?!!? CUZ PHIL SLIPED UP HE WAS STARTING JOHN PAXON OVER BJ ARMSTRONG AND BJ ARMSTRONG WAS BETTER SO THE TEAM WASENT ALL THERE
